My aunt. A quilter. A fabric store addict. Getting her out of one is like trying to talk a drunk out of a bar! Needless to say, I love her to quilting pieces! She’s a sweetheart. Yesterday our visits took us to Hancock in Independence totally by accident we stumbled into this store. Living in a small town, the Hancock’s near my aunt closed long ago. So, she was delighted to see this store with the lights on and open for business. It was clean. The bathroom(which I made a beeline for) was clean. The employees were friendly, especially one of them. She honored an item that appeared to be on sale and somehow wasn’t. Smart of her… she earned our business. We bought some fabric and other notiions. We had to wait just a short while to have the fabric cut due to other customers in the store. No problem. This sales rep also told us that on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month they give seniors citizens an additional 15% off. My aunt was so excited… that added more items to our cart. The fabric is not the highest quality but it’s not cheap old threads either. If we are in the area again, I know we will stop and shop… probably until I drop!!!

I don’t rely on this store as much at either Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s, even though it’s closer. The reason is, it’s not fully stocked, and it’s small for it’s large space. Understand what I mean? It’s a basic fabric store, with a small notions area, small amount of needlework area, and small amount of yarn work. I’ve found lot’s of remnants for quilting. There’s three or four tables full in the back, and you really have to look to find what you want. There’s seasonal items, sometimes they are dusty, and I’d rather not touch them. The quilting fabrics is complete. The holiday fabrics are what keeps this store going. I totally believe that. Every time I shop there, I have to wait for a cashier. There’s one, and she’s never at her station, ever. Frankly, I can get better notions and usually what I want, at JoAnn’s, even though the price is a bit more. The DMC thread at Hancock’s, if they have a full selection, is near the right of the store, crammed amongst the notions. Just doesn’t look right the way Hancocks has it displayed. Nothing is very bright in this store. But, Hancock’s is needed, and it exists. If just for the holiday quilting fabrics. There is a huge Hancocks in Paducah, Kentucky, and I’ve not figured out if this store is related to them or not. I’ve been meaning to ask, but I’m not sure if the employees would even know.
