I have a mixed impression about VIP Cleaners. They certainly are high prices, but I don’t know what the going rate is around here. I kind of was in a jam to get some shirts dry cleaned, and so we went here because it was the closest to where we were staying. This location is very small, and I’m assuming it’s a family-run operation. We asked for some shirts to be dry cleaned without starch, and the guy at the register goes on this tangent about how everyone uses starch even if you say you don’t want any, so why would we be asking for no starch. I don’t know what kind of response that was… First of all that’s false advertising if you advertise no starch and then do it anyway to everything, but also, that’s really not how you do business, because eventually when customers go to you repeatedly, their shirts will show the wear and tear of being starched regularly. We picked up the shirts the next day, so in terms of speed and efficiency, they were pretty fast. Prices were high — it was something like $ 2.50 a shirt or more. So when we said that this is a high price, he needled his eyes and asked where we normally get our dry cleaning done. We live in DC, and there are two drycleaners within two blocks of us, so perhaps there’s more competition so we have lower prices in the city. This dryclean place is fine if you’re in a jam and need some clothes dry cleaned and can’t wait.
