Campground was clean and well kept. Fairly easy to find(read written directions on ) Tent pads were nice, easy to find firewood, don’t pay for wood. Easy river access for washing and exploring water areas. Toilets were clean, water available by entry. We reserved online to be sure, but you can just show up before 4pm and register for any available spot. The camp spots are about 30 feet from neighboring camp spots, we were lucky and it wasn’t busy but if it was it would have been crowded. Not too much hiking available or great views other than the river in walking distance. River was awesome though, don’t try crossing it, it’s too strong(month of July) Overall had a good stay and it’s a really decent spot.

Troublesome Creek reopened in summer 2012 after being closed since 2006. It’s less accessible now. Index-Galena Road is still years away from being repaired so access is now via Beckler River Road and Jack Pass. This is largely gravel. The campground changed quite a bit. Loop 1(downstream of Troublesome Creek) has been almost completely rebuilt due to erosion with fewer and smaller campsites. Loop 2 looks about the same. The foot bridge between the loops looks new. It’s nice to have this campsite back, it’s one of the best. It’s away from traffic in an area of great natural beauty.

This campground is awesome! I was a bit nervous about going here because I hadn’t read too many reviews online and there wasn’t a ton of info. We stayed at site 002 which was great. Somewhat private, shaded, right on the creek. They have very nice tent pads that are sand. There is room for 2 cars if you wish(extra 8 bucks). I think the nicest site I saw was site 001 because they have a little walkway to the creek and you can get your feet wet. The nature walk was lovely. I was scared of the vault toilets — but they actually weren’t too bad. And the ones located near the campsite host are very very clean(no one uses them!). I haven’t been camping that much, but this place is by far my favorite(even over ohanapecosh). The only downside is it takes what feels like FOREVER to get there from Seattle. If there’s traffic its 2 ½hrs+. If no traffic, prob 2. The road off highway 2 is 18 miles but its partially gravel so you have to go pretty slow. Nothing near by so make sure you have all your supplies! I can’t wait to go back.

Best camping in the woods and on a river for families. A short and very well maintained trail through the woods and over Troublesome Creek on a footbridge built on logs — very cool, and thank you Boy Scouts. Our campsite was steps away from the North Fork Skykomish River and listening to it rush and roar and gurgle every night was hypnotic and a much needed break from city noises. Lots of rocks to climb on, lots of peace and quiet and an extremely well maintained campground. Smokey Bear paid a visit, which the little kids loved — though my teenagers were much to cool to admit they liked. This place is about 10 miles past Index, up in the mountains and woods, but still less than 2 hours from Seattle. Great place to pitch a tent if you don’t feel like backpacking away from it all, but still want to get away from it all. Better do it in the summer though, this place is closed in winter.
