I was there with a colleague Tuesday night. We both had food poisoning. I returned to my hotel and was instantly sick. We were in Indianapolis on business and had to cut our business meetings short. After talking to other coworkers who travel there they had experienced the same issue last week. I’m still recovering and am looking forward to eating again.

I love this restaurant! Friendly staff, excelent food, beautiful and adorable place, they have everything that an original mexican restaurant should have. Sure I’ll be there more times.

Good food and good atmosphere. The service was poor, though. The hostess could not understand us and had written the wrong name down for the reservation. Subsequently, several of us had no idea where to go or if we even had a table. I was able to figure this out and get it solved. Our server was quite confused, too. For example, he thought someone was talking to him and brought her a drink she didn’t order. It was quite strange because she didn’t ever mention the particular drink in the conversation she was having with us. The drink appeared and we were ALL confused. He also forgot to put in my order. They comped it, which was nice. My dinner was delicious, so I would go again but maybe to another location.

One of my favorite places to go any time I’m back home. Great margaritas. Pretty good coffee. Lots of parking. Good appies, good chips and salsa. I really like the green salsa mixed with a bit of the hot. The chips are perfectly thin and crispy My favorite meal is the Durango burrito. It has lots of beef smothered in cheesey sauce with some guac. Whatever you get, you have to try the papas con chile side. Cheesy potatoes, it’s so good! Tilapia Veracruz is a very tasty healthy Pasta mojo de ajo. I like it with the shrimp. The sauce is creamy with a little kick. I wanted to lick the plate clean. Next time I’m back I need to try the mi abuleos manjar. The best of the enchiladas.

I’m always up for Abuelo’s. I really like the trio of chips and salsa. The waiters always keep the basket full and the salsa coming. I usually get the chicken fajitas with the peppers and onions. I opt for the flour tortillas, but you can even get lettuce to wrap your fajitas in! I love the choice of sides is more than just the normal rice and beans. I get the papas con chile which are really good mashed potatoes. I also opted this last time for the espinaca casserole, which was a tasty spinach dish. I had to look that up to remember the name, I was delighted in how good it was and plan to get it as a side again.

Best steak fajitas so far but sometimes skimpy on the meat. Great service especially in the bar area. Very few disappointments when visiting…

I always get the steak fajitas and the only problem I’ve had recently is when they give you three taco shells but not enough meat to fill them. The house margarita was good and on special for a Friday night. I could’ve gotten two but one was strong enough for me. This is one of the few chains we continue to support.

The food was ok, my husband and I decided to go here as a last minute dinner. We got the mexican shrimp cocktail and it wasn’t very good. I had the stuffed shrimp and my husband had the steak. The food here was not like any other kind of mexican food we’ve ever had. Probably won’t go back. Service was good and I liked the atmosphere and most of the décor.

We stopped going to Abuelos only because there were so many options closer to home. Happened to be in the area of this Abuelos, so we went in for a late lunch. I had forgotten how good their food is! We also had great service. Like the 3 salsa options and my enchillads were really good(spinach & avocado). Only recommendation — dont touch the mini tablet on the table unless you want to pay extra for it. We moved it out of our way and they tried to charge us $ 2(apparently we had selected something?).

Dined at the restaurant tonight the food was very good as usual. I have eaten at this restaurant many times for lunch and never had an issue. Tonight the service sucked the waiter seem to have a lackadaisical attitude. We ordered margaritas that were supposed to serve four of us but they didn’t and when I brought it to the waiter’s attention he didn’t seem to care all he said was«oh I guess we have new glasses now». I shouldn’t have expected anything from chain restaurant! Follow up… The corporate folks contacted me and explained some of the issues and have made a good faith effort to make things right. I’ll give them another go…

Extra star because our server complimented my lipstick. I hate to seem vain, but I put a lot of effort into working that out. The three salsas that come out are AMAZING. Their guacamole was good, but not that good. The menu is large and a little hard to navigate, but we stuck with a couple of their signature dishes. We enjoyed the food.

I’ve been here twice. Once with my job and the second time with my sister(more recently). This is a DELICIOUS place to enjoy some great Mexican cuisine. They start you with the typical chips and salsa, but instead of giving you a small bowl of bland salsa like some other places, they give you three sampler salsa’s. One hot, mild and sweet. Diners are encouraged to try a combination of two or all three… They were enjoyable. We ordered queso to kick it up a notch. It was ok. I like QDoba’s queso better !!! The food prices are not the cheapest nor are they the most expensive, but don’t come expecting to get great food for low costs. That is for fast food. The food was worth the price. They give you a nice amount and it comes seasoned well and piping hot. I ordered a chile stuffed pepper and enchilada. There are several enchilada sauces to choose from, as well as meets to stuff it with. I chose shredded beef for my pepper and then chicken with some type of red sauce for my enchilada. It was exquisitely tasteful. My lunch plate came with refried beans and rice, which were also pretty yumstigity considering these are almost always the most bland part of the mexican cuisine in other restaurants I have eaten at. Abuelo’s does a great job with presentation and seasoning. The waiter was sweet and helpful and the atmosphere is very serene and peaceful. It makes for a good working lunch meeting or just time away with ‘the homies’, whoever they are! You should be prepared to be full. I’ve only had their lunch portions, so I’m not sure how big the dinner plates are but the lunch plates are very plentiful. We each had a frozen Sangria, which was PURE.FREAKING.AWESOMENESS!!! I have no complaints about that… the building and décor coupled with the great food and some good service made for an excellent choice for lunch. I can’t wait to return again. Hmmm, I wonder do they do birthday specials??? I say we all go sign up to see right now !!!

I was not impressed with the food I ordered. I thought since it was called Abuelo’s I would receive more of a traditional Mexican cuisine. The chips and salsa were served with three different types of salsa and they were pretty good, but nothing to brag about. The queso was the yellow kind and I was hoping/expecting the queso blanco. The chimichanga I ordered was fried too hard and covered with that same yellow cheese. Then, to top it off, the food was pretty pricey. We ordered two lunch entrees and two frozen sangrias. The total was over $ 30 with a coupon. I will not visit again. It just seemed like I didn’t get what I paid for.

We usually have really great service and food. Tonight they were both off. Service was super slow. The restaurant was less then half full. Food sat under the heat on the line long enough everything had a crust on it. Had to ask several times for our sides. Our tea was kept full that was the only thing executed well. We did not get more tortillas for fajitas when we asked. My left over beans got left behind because I was done waiting on the server to come back to ask for a bowl. Everyone has off days. This was definitely it for Abuelos.

We went on Sunday when they were having the Prime Rib. I opted for the Pescado Guerrero which is my favorite thing to order since I am not usually a big fan of Mexican food. My husband loves it though and Abueslo’s is one of his favorite places to go. He had the Prime Rib and we ordered a Prime Rib to go. Everything was cooked perfectly and we enjoyed our lunch. Our waiter was excellent. We usually have great service, but this time our waiter went above and beyond. I love the different salsas they offer and I always want to try dessert, but I am too full. They have a great rewards program and we bought a giftcard at Costco.

I had the Ribeye and enchiladas and I would like to say it comes highly recommended. My steak was cooked perfect medium and the chicken and pork enchiladas were tasty. Oh and the margarita on the rocks was spot on and icy cold. This was my first experience.

I had never been here before but I found the place through Unilocal and I decided to give it a try. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and seated right away. The place looks impeccable! I sat on a booth and my waiter came in within 2 – 3 minutes to start my order. I asked what he had eaten here before and what he recommended, he gave me 2 options and explained the plate and the preparation that goes into each. I ordered the pork tenderloin with rice, beans and a margarita. Meat was cooked perfectly, the beans had bacon, the tortillas were hot and the rice was good. This plate was still simmering as it was placed in front of me! My margarita was perfect! And the waiter was great, he came over to check on everything periodically. Over all, it was a pleasant experience. I docked a star because they don’t offer corn tortillas or cotija cheese.

We recently came here with a group after an exciting day on the town. We were very hungry and the lure of chips and salsa brought straight to the table was too much to resist. The place is more upscale than your average Tex-Mex dive — elaborate murals, ornate statues, cloth napkins, and so on. But, while our group was mostly in jeans /t-shirts, we didn’t feel under dressed. The menu was pretty expansive and had many different styles of offerings ranging from more traditional Mexican cuisine to the standard Tex-Mex burritos. All six members of our group found things that sounded appealing and everyone enjoyed their dinner. But even with all these offerings and the fancy décor, I don’t think the prices are at all out of line with any other Mexican joint. The bill came to just over $ 30 for dinner for my wife and me, including drinks and entrees. Our server also did a great job. She was knowledgeable about their drink and food menus, stayed on top of refilling drinks, and was great about getting us anything we needed. She really helped make it a good experience. The food was good, the drinks were tasty, and the service was great. We enjoyed our experience at Abuelo’s and would come back again.
