I was lucky enough to attend Indianapolis Monthly’s Best of Indy even here a few days ago at this amazing event space. Getting to the event space I had to put some faith in my GPS because the location just minutes from the heart of downtown and in an area I deem as industrial. There is plenty of parking behind the building and the event I attended had a valet service. Upon walking to the entrance of the building, I did not know what to expect but once those doors opened I was blown away. There is a majestic wooden staircase that leads you to a large open space upstairs. The lighting was soft and perfect. Not harsh and industrial like I would have imagined. I was really blown away with how large the space it. The window around the exterior of the room are large and brilliantly adorn with a rustic bar like shelf. Perfect for propping up on while noshing on some food during happy hour. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because of the walk to the front door from the parking area was a bit tricky. Then trying to find the correct door for the event was another trial and error experience. I suspect some helpful signage would take care of this pretty quickly.

Exposed brick? Check. Original hardwoods from 1922? Check. Loads of natural light? Check. Room for 450 people SEATED on the second floor? Check. Biltwell is a wonderful addition to the event venue scene in Indy. The building is from 1922 and served as a mill making doors and windows for years. Jeanette(of Santorini Greek Kitchen fame with her husband Taki) bought the building and opened up Biltwell Event Center in August 2015. They’ve only hosted three weddings so far, so you can be one of the first to explore this new space! It doesn’t look like a whole lot from the outside… in fact, you’ll wonder, did MapQuest lead me the right way? But inside you’ll find tons of space on the first and second floors, a grand wooden staircase, two freight elevators that are the size of a room and could fit lounge furniture, and a gorgeous speakeasy-vibe bar area on the first floor. This space can be anything you want it to be and more! A huge plus: there are outlets GALORE. Power can be tricky at events to find an outlet and have extension cords everywhere. Biltwell was smart and has them on every single pillar, which are every sixteen feet. You won’t have any issues powering up! The lighting is perfect and the space has endless possibilities. Can’t wait to see what fun events take place in this unique space!

I was here for the 8th Pattern magazine launch. The facility on the outside left me a little skeptical(especially the parking for how big it is on the inside.) We walked in downstairs and it’s very open — very warehouse like. Not bad. Then we walk upstairs and… WOWZA!!! This place is GORGEOUS! I would venture to guess they could hold 500+ even with table and chairs, but I’m no expert. Gorgeous wood work to mix with the warehouse feel. Also — you can walk out on the roof to catch some fresh air. Just don’t do so after you’ve had a few. There’s no railings up to stop you if you’re feeling brave. The only really real complaint I had was that the bar didn’t accept credit/debit cards. I don’t know if this is a regular kind of thing or if it was this way just for the event, but definitely worth asking.
