Great Food, Great Service and Great Location! The Shrimp Po Boy and Fries were Amazing and I will definitely be returning! I also sampled the Gumbo and Chicken Pasta and they were also excellent, I have a feeling that you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu.

Borel’s disabled my ability to respond to MY own friends’ comments on their Facebook page… what a crock. Truth hurts. Don’t eat here. They hide bad reviews.

I have never in my entire life felt as though my patronizing was not appreciated. Now, my babe loves eating at this restaurant, however this is not my favorite place. Basically, so we comprised and I purchased what I wanted and choose to eat elsewhere. We were chastised after eating food and asked if he wanted his to go. I put my food up and was not willing to eat it at their establishment… They have received the last $ 43.88 from us… Then after I posted this review on Facebook Theresa Borel inbox me and sad Thank you they don’t need my money… Please see pictures… See their Facebook page. More complaints are being shared for customer service.

I had been eager to try this restaurant since our trip to NOLA. Food was great and the staff was exceptionally friendly. Will definitely go back.

The staff here is extremely nice and helpful! They take their time and answer any questions and allow you to sample things before you place your order. I got the cajun chicken pasta and the andouille boudin. They both were amazing!

I really like this place! It’s family run, and you feel that as soon as you step up to the counter. They’re eager to give you a warm welcome, and are happy to showcase their dishes through generous samples. They have a wide variety of traditional New Orleans style dishes along with beer and wine. My friend from New Orleans confirms that this place is the real deal. I have been a few times and have enjoyed some meals more than others, namely the oyster po-boy and beignets. The fries that came with my po-boy seemed like they came from a bag, but at least they were served hot! I’ve been to a couple of other Cajun places in Indy(one of them a whoooole lot!) and I don’t see a need to compare. They all have something unique to offer and there’s certainly room here for each of them. The location and menu brought me in, the setting and service always brings me back.

The people here are always friendly and helpful to explain the menu if you have any questions. Samples are given to help you decide on what to order. I’ve been here several times and the food is always good. The atmosphere here is good day or evenings.

The staff was super friendly! Ordered the crawfish ettouffee, jambalaya, shrimp po boy, and red beans & rice. All were really tasty. Still love my mom’s red beans and rice a little better, but this will definitely work in a pinch when we can’t drive 8 hours home!

Great atmosphere and friendly staff! I felt welcomed the moment I walked in. I did the«try three items for $ 9» deal with gumbo, ettouffee, and jambalaya. All were great! We also had a soft shell crab po-boy, which was tasty and not over filled like some po-boys I’ve had. We finished with the beignets which were delicious as well! Relaxed service, so don’t go if you’re in a hurry(I wasn’t). Overall, great!

Alligator Po Boy and Beignets as big as your mouth! I’m no creole expert, but I loved everything I ordered and tried a little bit of what other diners with me got. Every. Single. Thing was delicious. Their creations are definitely worth the 5 stars but I wish I could give them 7 or 8 for service and friendliness of staff. On our first visit we met the husband and wife owners and found out all about them. You really felt like you were guests in the dining room of their home and they just happen to be world-class creole chefs. It’s the kind of place you want to take anyone visiting from out of town to show them what kind of «local» place Indy can pull off. The comparison to Yats is pretty natural but I never think those are fair either way because you really need to have them both in front of you. No matter which is better Indy wins because both Yat’s and Borel’s rock and their owners are hardwired into the community they serve.

Okay love the festival décor, but I wish I could say that about the food and service. I got the Crawfish Boil… yuk! No seasoning! It tasted like it was boiled in water. My corn was not fresh… it was frozen. Come on! It’s corn season! My string beans looked very sad… it was depressing to look at them nevertheless to eat them. The service was horrible! After I put my fork down a lady with a dish cart comes and takes my silverware! I wasn’t even finished eating! So, not knowing how this establishment works, they put the«closed» sign up. Me and my family was still eating, so I finished and walked up to the counter and asked for a dessert. The whole kitchen stopped, the owner looked me up and down… I look back at him like I would like dessert. Nevertheless, the lady gave me a bowl of peach cobbler. I WILLNEVERSETFOOTINTHISESTABLISHMENTEVER… NOTHANKYOU!

I had been meaning to try Borel’s for months now, and finally made it in last week. I met a friend here for dinner after work, and when we arrived at 6PM it was completely empty which scared us a bit, but we decided to give it a try and were glad we did! We were greeted warmly by the owner who offered to let us try anything on the menu that we’d like. I opted for the three smaller portions for $ 9 option everyone has been talking about, and chose the seafood gumbo, hoppin john and crawfish etoufee. Of these the seafood gumbo was my favorite! This was the real deal and brought me back to trips to New Orleans. The hoppin john and crawfish were both good as well. Everything is served with buttery bread that is hard to stop eating. My friend ordered an item that was on special, a shrimp pasta dish, and was a little disappointed that the whole bowl had only one shrimp! She said the sauce was really good, but wasn’t sure it was entirely as advertised. I definitely would like to come back and try the po-boys, and other menu items as well. The décor is fun and colorful, and a few more people did come in before we left. Some were clearly regulars. I hope some other people find this place soon; it is kind of tucked away at the far end of the strip mall and so can be easily missed!

This is a neat restaurant tucked away in the back corner of a strip mall on 86th St. It’s hidden behind Le Peep. They have all the standards: gumbo, étouffée, jambalaya, creole, po boys, etc. You can order most everything in either a cup size or a bowl size. They have a deal where you choose 3 cups for $ 9. The seafood gumbo and shrimp creole were particularly good. They carry the 3 Sun King house beers(Wee Mac, Sunlight, and Osiris) as well.

We had a wonderful dinner here. My bf just moved to Indy from Texas and feared he’d no longer have a great place for creole cuisine. Borel’s hit the spot with authentic creole flavor and awesome service! We’ll be back. We had the crawfish étouffée, shrimp and turkey sausage jambalaya, and split the shrimp po’ boy(fries included). YUM! They also have a crawfish broil every Friday, complete with crab legs and andouille sausage, corn and potatoes!!!

Cajun, but not Crazy(Hey there, Yats!) I happened upon Borel’s because an acquaintance of mine works there. I’m always up for a new spot in Indy, so I thought I’d give it a try; I found myself pleasantly surprised. Borel’s has many of the Cajun mainstays that one expects from shrimp po’ boys to everybody’s favorite, Jambalaya. I had the Cajun Chicken Pasta and was quite pleased. There was ample seating and the restaurant itself was quite clean and pleasant. I could definitely see myself and a group of friends taking over the place for the evening(hint, hint fellow UnilocalELITE) ;-). My one complaint for Borel’s is that they don’t have many menu options for non-beef/pork eaters like myself, and I imagine my vegetarian friends would leave with empty bellies and disappointed taste buds. I’d love to see Borel’s expand their menu options to include a few vegetarian options. That could be the boost they need for that elusive fifth star!

Amazing! This new(as of this review) little restaurant is wonderful. Some other reviews give details on how the Cookery was started so I won’t go into that. This was our first experience and we loved it. I will say that the staff are simply fabulous, one and all. The food was excellent in our opinion. My wife & I have been to NOLA several times so we feel we know authentic Cajun & Creole food. This is it! We loved the option of being able to pick 3 choices from the menu, in smaller portions, to be able to sample everything. We also had wine(beer & wine only at this time) with our meal and it was very good and well priced. There is a small section, maybe 6 – 8 seats, that is a «bar» area for adults only. Borel’s also takes reservations, which we like. Our party of 7 had a beautifully decorated«reserved» table that made it even more fun. This is a place you have to try to see for yourself. If you do, I’m sure you’ll be back. Enjoy!

Nooooooooooooooooooo! I wanted to love this place so bad. I waited forever for them to open their doors! This past Tuesday they did… and I rejoiced! I could not wait to go in there and try it. I was so excited to see their list of Po-Boys which are my ultimate favorite in Cajun food. Papa Roux here in Indy is my favorite, but is over 30 minutes to get to, so not convenient unfortunately. So here I am hoping this place will be the bomb… DENIED :( Everyone was very friendly to me when I walked in, and the atmosphere was great with the owner talking to guests, and his wife and daughters in the back cooking. Even the aunt was there doing dishes… real family feel. The kitchen is pretty exposed and you can see everyone hard at work. How can this go wrong? I ordered my girlfriend Oyster Po-Boy and(because they don’t have chicken?) a pulled pork Po-Boy for myself. Instead of the plain fries, I paid the up charge to try both the seafood gumbo and the chicken and sausage gumbo. Now, I was already turned off by the fact the prices were a bit steep. The Po-Boys were naturally $ 10 and then another $ 2 for the gumbo up charge instead of fries. So already I was a bit turned off… but for the right flavor… I’ll pay! So my girlfriend and I begin to dig in and the first thing you notice is the size. The sandwiches are rather small(normal by most people’s standards) for Po-Boys. To make matters worse, they are mostly bread… TERRIBLE bread. This was the crappy french bread you can pick up at a Wal-Mart. This was so disheartening… I had to remove 1 piece of the bread to try and stomach the sandwich. The pulled pork was good, and so were the fried oysters(not amazing, but good)…but there was no savings the sandwich with that kind of bread. Ugh. Next we ate our gumbo… which was very good. I honestly can’t complain about it. It was perfectly fine. That being said, perfectly fine is not what I want… I can get perfectly fine gumbo anywhere. All in all, I was so disappointed… I usually give places 2 tries before I write them off, so we’ll see… but I’m having a hard time going back here with the high cost for poor quality. Do yourself a favor and go to Papa Roux.

This place is the real deal. The food is amazing and the family that owns the restaurant is the nicest group of people. I got to meet the owners and get a little history on why they opened a restaurant. The Borel’s started with a Mardi Gras party at their home annually. After the attendance grew every year, they decided a restaurant was in order. Everyone in the family specializes in a dish that is on their menu. Everything from crawfish étouffée to Hoppin’ John to gumbo. Their seafood gumbo is the best I have ever had. It has shrimp, scallops and crab meat. Their crawfish étouffée top notch as well. You have to check this place out.
