Butler Inn

Nowhere near as scary inside as you would think it would be. It’s a smoking bar so that’s a negative for me but its walking distance to my house so that’s awesome. They have a really terrible poster of Jeff Gordon as a matador which rules but the fact that they have an Purdue flag (boo!) next to an IU flag is unforgivable. Pick a side so I can judge you forever please. The bartender is a bit loony in a good way (literally showed me pencil etchings that she drew of a unicorn one night). A great place to go if you want to play like George Thorogood and drink alone.

I have been known to smoke a cigarette or five while I’m out drinking. This place was like crawling up into the lap of that crazy great aunt who lives in AZ and has emphysema with an oxygen tank 24/​7, but still smokes. Oh and her husband smokes. In the house with all the windows closed b/​c it’s AZ. It was a little smokey. The drinks were cheap, the bartenders friendly, and the NASCAR fans plentiful. We walked in and the only table open was directly under the TV. Our heads were even with Tony Stuart (the only NASCAR name I readily recall). We eventually found other accommodations. The ladies behind us at our new table were selling home made hair clips, should have bought one. It was small, crowded, and kind of fun. I think on a non-​race day it would be less smokey. Next time I am getting a sweet hair clip and some pull tabs.

If you love the kind of dive bars that are funky then this is your luck this is your place! The place falls right out off the pages of a book. Its small and smells like ever glass of beer that has been spilled over the years’ The drinks are not fancy or the hip kind from the plastic bars that people go th be seen in, this is a joint you go to drink and not be seen! Places like is where made for the people who live with in walking distance!
Remember to eat well and to live well, and please no chains!

Strange dive bar, no doubt, but the drinks were cheap, bartender was friendly, and the folks inside were interesting in a fear and loathing in las vegas kind of way, yet somehow manage to not creep me out too much.
