Caplinger’s Fresh Catch

I love some seafood, but I’m usually one to err on the side of caution when eating it anywhere too far from a coast. You step into Caplingers and you can tell they know what they are doing. From the variety of seasons and sauces to the fish case stocked with fresh catch, you would think you were on the east coast, not in the middle of Indiana. The dinners are reasonably priced and everything I had was amazing. I love the chipotle slaw and the hush puppies! Omnomnom! I will say it takes a bit of time for your order to come up, but it’s worth the wait :)

this place gets packed pretty quick. it has a laid back atmosphere and the staff was super friendly. I ordered the Basa fish dinner. it was amazing and a ton of food for the price. The sides are very small for the price but they were very good as well.
I also ordered some of their crab dip to go and I will say I was not impressed. It was definitely imitation crab which I would not expect from a place that specializes in seafood.

This is the second time that I’ve been here now. The first was closer to dinner time so be prepared for a wait. This time I went during lunch time there was no wait. The oysters on the half shell are the BEST deal here; they are HUGE and only $ 1.59 each. I also had the clams on the half shell and they’re 50¢ each. I absolutely love oysters and they’re usually double that price. You can also ask them to fry those individually for you for free if you don’t want to get the meal.
The lobster roll is very good and so is the shrimp po boy. The sauce on the po boy is just delicious and everything is fried to perfection. The service is impeccable. Everyone is extremely friendly and willing to help you. No matter how busy they are, the staff are always all smiles. However, the only down side is that the sides aren’t that great. The hush puppies are good but I tried the mac n cheese & collard greens and they are very lackluster.

This place will leave you in awe of what good seafood truly is. The lobsta roll will leave you wondering if you are on the east coast and not in a land locked state. The case of fresh seafood is a bit overwhelming, but you’ll figure it out. Staff is by far one of the best in regards to knowledge and friendliness.
Love, love, love this place. Take home some tiger shrimp, bay scallops or ahi grade tuna… in Indianapolis. Believe the reviews, they are all legit. Yes, it takes a little bit to get your food… who cares. Order ahead or simply take in the case of wonderfully fresh seafood while you wait. Can’t go wrong with this place. Keep up the good work, I’m a customer for life.

After the gym, I wanted some fish. There was a line to order and popping in the parking lot. After a 6 minute wait to order, I ordered the grilled salmon, green beans and mac & cheese.
There is a sign that states everything is cooked to ordered. So I prepared to wait. During the wait, I walked over to Starbucks and grab a drink. About 15 minutes after that my to-​go order was ready.
I got my order home and began to eat some of the best salmon. The green beans were seasoned very well. The mac & cheese was lacking. But the hush puppies and tarter sauce were delicious.
If you use to Long John Silvers this is not the place for you, the food was really good. If you can get pass the wait.
Tip for next time call in your order ahead of time. Plus, you avoid the extra fee of the online order.

How do we get one of these in KC?
I chose this restaurant because it was the highest rated on Unilocal for a lunch location. Oh man did it deliver!
We were actually worried from seeing the place from the outside. It looked clean and nice but was an in-​line spot next to a Starbucks and looked like a chain.
Walking in — there was a huge glass counter of fresh fish. Something we didn’t expect to see. The selection was massive and they would cook any of the fresh fish for you.
We opted for items off the regular menu though and both got the clam po-​boy. This was something I’ve never seen on a menu before and man was it delicious.
They were fast, it was cheap, and amazing seafood. I would highly recommend this place.
