I almost don’t even want to review this place because i want to keep it a secret! This place is AWESOME, simply out of this world!!! The breakfast here is just incredible. A lot of people complain about the long lines but let me tell you this is one of the few places i Would stand in line for. The staff was awesome and friendly. The place is small tiny even they need about quadruple the space! We went during the week so we had no wait woohoo! Had French toast, grits and handmade sausage to die for! I was so pleasantly surprised I can’t wait to go back again! If your looking for a fantastic breakfast downtown you must treat yourself to City café!

Good spot for breakfast or brunch. I’m a fan of their Biscuits & Gravy and the Pops Breakfast sandwich. I typically order it to go since I work nearby but have ate inside a few times. The waitress was very nice and helpful when taking down my order. If you’re looking for a «huge breakfast», to cure your Saturday morning hangover, i’d look elsewhere. In my opinion, it’s a bit pricey but all their ingredients are local and fresh.

Nice breakfast, but nothing that justifies paying $ 5 – 7 more than most other places for the same meal. Tip: Don’t order a-la-carte. If they don’t have what you want on the menu, just pick something you sort of want.

If Seinfeld took place in Indy, this is where Jerry and his crew would hangout. Don’t be discouraged by the size of Indy’s best hidden breakfast gem. With only about dozen tables and a hand full of severs, they somehow manage to get folks in and out without feeling rushed. Local Indy artist are featured on the walls and are also available for purchase. Be prepared to wait a bit for a table if you come on a weekend and you’ll most likely have to wait outside. Service can be a bit slow but all the wait staff are super helpful and friendly. Even the offee is local! The perfect lace to take out of town guests. Don’t miss the daily specials usually something sweet, something savory and something vegetarian.

It took about 10 minutes for some one to take our order, and from there, our waitress was cordial, but rarely smiled, and seemed as if we were a bother. The City Café is small and quaint, with 42-person booths, 84-person booths, and one 6-person table. This place cannot accommodate crowds, so plan accordingly. Sophie ordered the buttermilk hot cakes($ 7.75) with sides of a scrambled egg($ 1.50) and bacon from Smoking Goose($ 3.50). She also ordered chocolate milk, which bewilderingly came with cinnamon stirred in. Sophie was not fond of that. I ordered the roast beef hash with eggs over medium($ 10.50). Sophie said that she liked Aunt Jemima’s syrup better, but I really liked it. The bacon was excellent, crisp and not too salty. My hash, on the other hand, was completely burned, and I cannot believe that the server even sat it in front of me(check out the pictures). After remaking it, I found that this is not your mother’s hash, and some of it was still burned. The potatoes and carrots were diced and the meat was seasoned with way too much sage. It was more like a stew than hash, and not a good-flavored stew. I gave this place 2 stars because Sophie’s meal was good, the service was bad, and the burned stew then remade stew(hash) was just very bad.

Good spot to hit for breakfast. I had the eggs and hash breakfast they still serve after 10am. Everything else turns into a lunch menu.

City Café reminds me of a couple small places I use to visit in Connecticut. A warm and cozy one-isle eatery with two and 4 top booths on both side of the isle way. As soon as you enter are a few tables for a group larger than 4 top or handicapped accessible. The restaurant looks dark from outdoors but a large front window provides enough light without being disturbing. We were greeted with a warm smile then asked«How are you?» The server was terrific, attentive without smothering as well as kept my coffee mug filled. She provided menu details and recommendations about entrees I was considering. Never did I feel rushed even after lingering over my last cup of coffee once my bill was paid. Breakfast is served till 11:00 M-F with lunch menu from 11:00 — 2:00. Nice to see their open Saturdays for breakfast from 8:00 — 1:00. Maybe street parking improves on Saturdays if we come earlier. The Roast Beef Hash looked scrumptious even though I’m no longer a big red meat eater. I have fond memories of homemade corn beef hash from years ago at a restaurant since closed. I attempt to recreate and fill that void with a current favorite. Why? Who knows? However with this being the driving force plus delicious photos I ordered the Roast Beef Hash. I wasn’t disappointed with the tasty roasted potatoes, onions, red peppers and carrots beside the tender and crispy cubed roast beef. The two scrambled eggs and sourdough toast/w jelly, rounded out the meal nicely. I must admit I will be ordering the meatless version when ordering again. Not City Café’s fault in anyway. It’s just red meat continues to taste like red meat as my husband reminds and teases me. The Vietnamese Grilled Chicken Salad was excellent with tender, grilled chicken, rice noodles, and bright red & yellow peppers, roasted peanuts tossed over spinach. The side serving of Nuoc, which is a Vietnamese condiment, is very light and tasty. This is definitely a keeper and worth a reorder in the future. All in all, a wonderful little eatery in a fairly quiet and cozy atmosphere worth visiting for breakfast or lunch.

If you’re looking for a light healthy lunch this is a wonderful stop. I had the black bean wrap and really enjoyed the spicy kick. It’s an easy place to miss along Pennsylvania but worth stopping by.

Let’s start with the good: orange juice and toast. Normal bread but toasted well. The biscuits and gravy literally taste like runny cream with a sawdust biscuit. Flecks of sausage are barely visible and there is no taste besides the thin heavy salty cream. Waitress described the intense sage sausage taste … Not a speck of sage… you couldn’t even taste the Paprika sprinkled on top.

Great local business to bike to for breakfast. We visited here a couple of times. It seems to be at least $ 10 a person for breakfast, even children. They have local items in the menu, meat from Goose the Market, and we sampled an in house creation of a cinnamon roll with bacon crumbles. It was really good!

I recently had my first experience at City Café this past week and I can say I truly enjoyed it! I discovered yellow watermelon and it was delicious. I also enjoyed their veggie sandwich. It was one of the best that I’ve had, it had so much flavor and the portion is just enough! I will definitely be back to try other items off the menu!

I found this small hole-in-the-wall café about two years ago. It’s a very small restaurant, but definitely worth a visit! Pros: 1) Friendly and courteous staff 2) Local ingredients 3) Fantastic cinnamon rolls made on the weekends. They run out fast, so get there early to make sure you get one Cons: 1) The wait can be long if an event is going on in the area 2) It’s pricier than other breakfast places(Le Peep, Lincoln Square), but it’s nice to go to a place that isn’t a chain All in all, a great find!

Phenomenal! This hidden gem is on point every single time we dine. My husband and I affectionately refer to it as ‘our’ restaurant because we adore it so much. If you happen in for breakfast, we highly recommend the Migas but take my advice and add their housemade sausage and a side of Cajun ketchup! If you’re lucky enough to hit this local spot during a City Burger special… Don’t bother looking at the rest of the menu, just get it! Any special they’re whipping up is delicious and so simple yet inventive. It’s amazing what these folks can do with the fresh local foods they source. I can’t recommend City Café highly enough. We recently made it in for their once a week dinner(Thursday 5−9pm) and left so ridiculously full and happy. It was truly an entire menu of ‘specials’ based around what’s in season currently(peaches). All three courses were perfect.

City Café is a very unassuming breakfast option if you find yourself searching for a early morning bite to eat when your in the downtown area. This diner is a no frills café provides you to step back in time. The menu is pretty basic and straight forward. It has your staple breakfast fare and uses locally sourced goods. While there is no gluten free menu, there are a few items that are naturally gluten free. The prices are pretty fair; however, your omelet can get pricey depending upon how many ingredients you get. The amount of food in proportion to cost is pretty large. You could get two meals out of a build your own omelet. One word of caution to all of those with long legs when sitting in a booth, beware of the table leg. That sucker hurts when you knock into it.

I mean, it was OK. I have lived in Indy all my life and I never even knew this place existed. It’s tiny but the atmosphere is pleasant. I just had some issues with my party having to stand at the door for 20 minutes even though there were empty tables. They just kept coming over and telling us they would be right with us. It wasn’t that busy and takes two seconds to point to a table and tell people to sit down. It was very confusing on why they made us wait for so long. I order eggs Benedict at every restaurant I can so I am kind of an expert. Theirs were very pleasant to look at but really hard to eat. I couldn’t decide if the English muffin was just really hard to cut or if my silverware was so cheap it couldn’t handle it. I looked around and saw I wasn’t the only person that looked like a child attempting to cut their own food. In all honesty, I wouldn’t go back. The food was good but it was too much trouble.

It took a long time to get seated despite empty tables. However, the food was great and overall a good value. The servers were friendly and the atmosphere was casual and relaxed. I can see how this is a local favorite.

City café rocks, that’s the skinny. Menu is loaded with awesome goodness. Everything was fresh and just the right sized portions, I got the hash with two eggs, wife had the«Herb» a breakfast sandwich filled with egg and homemade sausage. Ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy, not my thing as I’m more of a traditionalist but it wasn’t bad. Coffee was excellent. Place is slightly tight, service was fine for a Wed morning, price a little on the high side but not a deal breaker. Highly recommend.

So excited to run into Sonya A. The veggie hash was amazing with a variety of vegetables galore. Please try the Cajun ketchup. Her French toast was crispy and the sausage was super good! Service is fast and friendly. Loved the local ingredients and vendors!

I have heard so many great things about City Café’s food, and have heard rumors of how packed it gets for brunch; but we got really lucky and my friend and I were able to grab a seat immediately. Then the menu. So many great choices, and the parade of plates containing savory and sweet delights did not help the decision-making process. In fact, after we finally decided on our biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, and potatoes, we decided we HAD to order a warm fresh cinnamon roll — they only serve them on Saturdays! So, needless to say we were stuffed! I definitely recommend the sausage!
