This place does AMAZING work for the city. The amount of food they sort, inspect and process is absolutely incredible. I’ve volunteered here w/groups before and had good experiences! I wasn’t the one arranging the service opportunity but you start w/a general introduction training to learn more about Gleaners. From there, they assign you to what they need done. I’ve helped clean the warehouse and sort and inspect food donations. They have the volunteer program down to an art and frequently host student organizations and businesses. There was one Saturday that was very busy w/volunteer groups and it took awhile to get our assignment and they didn’t have much for us to do… but I guess having too many volunteers is a good problem to have! :)

As a senior citizen, I find myself utilizing Gleaners for the first time in my life. I had always been on the others side but the volunteers that I have encountered at the mobile pantry have always been very nice and helpful. God Bless the works you do.

A fantastic place to work. It feels like all coworkers are much more than a team, but we could not do what we do without support from volunteers and donors! Thanks to everyone who is in the fight against hunger.

It took Unilocal’s Not So Random Acts of Kindness to get me to volunteer the first time for Gleaners Food Bank, but the next day I contacted them to sign up to volunteer on a regular basis in the Food Pantry. Gleaners Food Bank serves a vital role in our community, and I’m proud to donate a few hours every other week to help feed the«clients» who would otherwise go hungry, or have to decide if they’re going to eat or have electricity or clothing. On the first night I volunteered in the pantry, there was a line out the door of people waiting to get inside. They stop at the desk and sign in, and then they walk through the small square pantry and, based on the number of people in their household, pick a limited number of items from the shelves. My role, along with the 10 or so other volunteers, was to keep the shelves stocked so the clients had choices. With so many people coming through, it took all 10 of us to keep everything stocked and neat. I highly recommend finding time, even if just a few hours a month, to donate to this worthwhile cause. Maybe I’ll see you there!

recruited local volunteers to prepare food bags for thousands of children in the Indianapolis area. launched their Indy chapter recently and today was their inaugeral event. A HUGE thank you goes out to Dana P. — an Elite Unilocaler — in launching OneBrick in Indy! Having volunteered at Food Banks in Northern California, I was hoping to find a similar organization here in Indianapolis. was instrumental in bringing the food bank and their needs to the volunteer public. It was such a fun event — and a great way to spend the afternoon! Get about 40+ type A personalities together and great things happen!!! The Food Bank typically puts together about 3000 crates of food bags for children a month… the OneBrick team today did 1500 in about 3 hours! Of course, knowing that we are going to get together with a keg of beer at Bourbon Street Distillery later tonight to celebrate the OneBrick launch event… was additional motivation :-)
