The store was well organized on my first visit and things were easily found. The issue I have with those working there(and the reason for a singular star), is that they don’t seem to know how to cut fabric properly. I had a selection of knits and mesh fabrics that were submitted to an unusually harsh, off-grain ripping by the store associate who was helping me out. I am not the kind to raise concern as I know the stressors of working in retail but I don’t know what that fabric did to deserve such torture. Once the cuts were made and being folded, you could clearly see that the second fold of one of my yards of knit fabric was torn askew and missing a good 2−3″ of fabric that I was charged for. Once again, I digress, I do not like to cause a hassle but how the three associates standing around and looking at the older associate cut my fabric did absolutely nothing to correct their compatriot left me feeling tight-lipped. Knowing that I was on a time schedule prevented me from stopping and having them re-cut that which I needed that day and I hurried to leave the store, but not before I was coerced into signing up for a rewards card that I know I won’t ever be using again. Stick with Jo-Ann.

My experience was mediocre at best. The place was not busy whatsoever when I went to shop that particular day. I was looking for something in particular and had asked one of the employees where an item was. She looked at me with a very indifferent gaze and told me they didn’t have it. I told her that I called the day before inquiring about the particular item and was told by another woman that they did indeed have it. She then just pointed in the general direction of the back of the store. I didn’t ask her specifically where she was pointing, and after that unpleasant and unyielding informational moment, I just wanted to get away from her. I started walking in the direction she pointed to, but I guess I should’ve known better because I couldn’t find the item after all. I then asked another employee to be more specific. I also asked if she could just physically show me where the item was. Reluctantly the woman walked to another part of the store and located the item. I realized after getting my item, that every employee I encountered up to that point,(3 of them total), were all miserable. What a shame, as it just seems that many times when I go shopping anymore, I run into the same type of attitude and mentality. Speaking from experience in working retail myself in the past, I always tried to be friendly from the beginning of an encounter with a customer. I believe that how you act from the onset is generally how someone else will treat you. There are cases where a customer will immediately bombard you with a bad attitude and an accusatory tone, but I have found that the key in dealing with that in any case is to de-escalate the situation by trying to neutralIze it with attempting to be calm. On a positive note, they do have a pretty nice selection of fabrics, as well as other notions/miscellaneous items. So if you can get past the negative atmosphere, it’s well worth the trip. Nevertheless, onward and upward,…and here’s to hoping and wishing for happier shopping pastures!
