My daughter’s and I had a good time! We sampled $ 3 Liberia palm stew. $ 5 Greek flan $ 3 phillipino rice noodles and topped it off with a heaping order of guacamole and chips.. The festival wasn’t huge but it was nice. a mini international festival.

I am happy to agree with DeAnna below; the market had a positive first showing yesterday afternoon. Wandering down(or up) Mass ave. you wouldn’t be able to miss the international market: the smell alone would draw you in. Imagine bringing together all your favorite ethnic joints from around the city and just sniffing them! It was glorious. Each food vendor offered a chance to try some of their signature dishes. You could easiesly eat yourself full here for under ten bucks. The beer is cold, so that never hurts either! After eating, you can wander through what the non-edible vendors have to offer. Check out jewelry, clothing, cooking products, etc. etc. For the first week of the international market, I call it a success. I look forward to seeing the event grow. Located right in Chatham Arch, this event is scheduled to run on the final Saturday of each month from 12 – 5. Check it out! You won’t be disappointed.

A solid start for the first market of the season. The purpose of the market is to bring some of the international offerings from all over Indy to one spot. They will have the market the last Saturday of the month, I believe at least through September. They had several food vendors, a drink tent, a beer tent, and vendor selling international wares. The Mediterranean olive salsa from Garbaage was amazing. Not overly briney, and subtly spiced with banana peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Gus’ Fresh Homemade guacamole was also delicious, but a little under-limed for my taste. It is nice that they make it very mild, but have a huge bucket of diced serranos they will add to make it the heat level you want. I was disappointed by the food from Julia’s Caribbean. The rice and beans were both very underdone. The rice was almost crunchy. The restaurant has high reviews, so maybe they just haven’t mastered the catering side yet. It was kind of a hot mess waiting for their food. They forgot thermometers, so they waited and waited to serve the food to be sure it was hot enough. Then they were the ones who didn’t have buns(this was at least 30 minutes into being open). Barcelona Tapas did not disappoint. I think I could eat an entire platter of their garlic wings. One of the vendors sold all kinds of exotic produce. It was cool to buy banana flowers for the first time and have the vendor explain exactly how to prepare them. Food at all the places was reasonably priced and good portions. I can’t wait to see who will be there next month. There were a couple hiccups with the first event. I happen to know one of the founders and he was gracious enough to ask my feedback, so I anticipate the following issues will be remedies by the next market: — food was not ready at several stations when the market opened — one vendor didn’t have its serving license onsite, so they had to wait a bit to start serving food — one vendor had pulled pork sandwiches on the menu, but didn’t have any buns when they opened(see above)
