Nope, never again. I have had a really bad run with bad food and worse service lately and maybe I’ve been a bit harsh with some of my reviews. But if ever a place deserves one star, it’s now. Once we were seated, we sat a good 10 minutes being ignored. I finally flagged down a server and asked if she could send someone our way. She seemed irritated and took our order. I have no idea if she was actually assigned to our table or not, but she treated us like we were a huge burden. Strangely, I saw her interactions with other tables and she was much more friendly. The salsa was fine, the queso was passable. She never did bring the side plate I asked for, so my kiddo ended up eating off the cheese dip saucer. When ordering my enchiladas, I was careful to clearly say I did NOT want lettuce on them. It took a really long time for the food to come out and when it did, there were my enchiladas covered in lettuce. There was so much, I had to send it back. Less than three minutes later, my new plate of enchiladas came out and they were covered in so much sauce, I scraped off enough to fill an entire other plate, and they were still swimming in it. It was so overwhelming, you couldn’t taste anything but sauce. It was clear that they just slopped my plate together. Our server didn’t come back to check on us, either. Finally, everyone was done and we were ready to go. My kiddo was being a disruptive brat, I admit. But instead of getting our check, our server just gave her the stink eye. Dude, we can’t leave until we pay, so bring the check and we will get the hell out of there. Final frustration — my husband had a free dessert from Spot On. He told the man bussing our table and the man said he would bring it out. He asked how our food was and I told him mine was gross and showed him the plate of sauce. He didn’t say anything, but when the bill came, he told us he didn’t charge us for it. Then the dessert never came. We waited and waited, but I assume they figured that since we already got something«free»(bad food), they weren’t giving us dessert.

I went with the veggie enchiladas but made the mistake of asking for them suiza. Everything was overwhelming covered in cheese sauce inside and out. My mistake. The chips and salsa were very good. Service was friendly. Just too much cheese. My husband ordered something that was also covered in cheese.

Absolutely, positively the best Mexican on the south side of Indy. Perhaps in the entire city. Usually come here during lunch. The waitstaff have always been attentive, and the time from order to food arrival has always been less than 10 minutes. The décor is bright and cheerful. The chips and salsa are very good(get some queso too!). Do yourself a favor and get the Enchilada Supremas. It’s four enchiladas with a different filling in each, and it tastes amazing. You get a lot of food for the low price you pay here. They also make a mean Margarita!

Excellent Mexican food! Not your typical Mexican restaurant that serves the same type of dish. Mexico City grille offers a variety of different combinations and unique dishes. The only complaint I could have is that the chips and salsa weren’t that great. The food itself tasted great and the portions were hefty. I would definitely recommend to any southside resident

This is a amazing restaurant! Love this place! The service is spot on, chips and salsa are made fresh and Come out hot, and the over all food quality was incredible! I’m definitely gonna make this a new regular on my list.

I’ve frequented this location many times over the last few years. It has gone from mediocre to very nice! They recently renovated the restaurant and the general attitude is above average compared to other Mexican food places locally. The waiters are almost always quick to refill drinks and salsa. The prices are fair and food is consistently good. When you can just do a good job almost every time we eat here, your doing it right in my book!

I like this place because they offer good lunch specials and are generous with the pico and guacamole. I’m a little sad to say the beans are kinda runny and the rice is a smaller portion than what I was expecting. However, my taquitos were cooked perfectly and were great. I left with a full belly of good Mexican food.

I have lived nearby this restaurant for 11 years and have probably eaten out here more than any other place over this time period. Over the years, I have noticed a decline in quality of food and service and tonight was the last straw. We arrived at 840 not realizing that they closed at 9. There was a discussion in Spanish in which our waitress was told to tell us that kitchen closes in 5 minutes. Apparently, I had never been there this late on a Sunday but I realized then that closed at 9 and their kitchen closes in five minutes. I normally don’t like to show up right before a restaurant closes but this was an honest mistake and there were still people there eating and the food takes no time at all to prepare. Obviously, the decision was made to go elsewhere at this point after we were made to feel unwelcome. Mexico City Grill has lost a 11 year customer.

I was just recently at this location. We were looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try. I will say the food is definitely amazing. I was extremely happy with my dish and so was my husband. The Salsa was fresh and very taste. The food alone would get 5 stars from me. Now the reason they are only getting 3 stars is the service. I do not know if this was an off night for them or not. But when we came it we were seated promptly and received our chips and salsa upon seconds of sitting down. That is where the good stops. For the next 20 minutes we wait and wait and wait for our server. We keep seeing several servers in our area as there were 5 other table in the section we were sitting. But no one. Finally once we realized it had been 20 minutes and no chips or salsa left and no one had even checked on us. I walk up to the gentleman that sat us. Explained that we had been there for 20 minutes and no one but the chip and salsa guy had been to our table. He immediately apologizes and then walks into the kitchen area. Where I can hear him say something in Spanish to the other servers. Then he comes back out and waits on us. He continued to apologize and we didn’t have any problems after. WE will definitely go back and give it another try. However, if the service is more of the same, I can definitely say that we will not visit a third.

Without hesitation I would tell anyone this is by far the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Fresh ingredients, amazing favors and great service.

Mexico City Grill was a nice surprise for us! We were looking for a great option on the south side that was inexpensive but delicious and this was just what we were looking for. The dish with all of the different types of meat was superb, and definitely shareable. The blue agave margarita was a nice treat as well!

I don’t know what has changed but the food definitely got better! This is, in my opinion of the many Mexican restaurants I’ve had in this area, the best in the area.

Our favorite Mexican on the Southside. Most of the time the service is on the slow side but the good is well worth it.

First time at this restaurant, it was alright. At 7 o’clock we got right in with no wait. Free chips and salsa, showed up to the table before I was even situated in my seat. The white queso was very good, little spicy which we like. I got the king burrito. It was mostly All ground beef and little shredded chicken. It was very big, as big as the plate. I also got a house margarita and aside from the fancy garnish it was mediocre. It was nice to try this place but I probably won’t pick this over other Mexican restaurants in the area.

We were in a hurry for a quick lunch. We were on this side of town due to an appointment. Overall I was under impressed. To be fair the service was good. My enchalada sauce was not good, tasted like burnt mole sauce. I don’t like mole sauce and really don’t like burnt mole sauce. The rice I got was mushy and frankly didn’t have much taste. My lunch date got a chicken fajita salad and it seemed like the chicken was not drained. The shell of the salad was sitting in a lake of liquid which was not sauce making the shell a soggy mess. She liked the chips and salsa however I was not a fan of the chips. The salsa tasted homemade and the temperature(spicyness was appropriate.) The service was ample and friendly and we did get in and out in 40 minutes. However, I can’t say I would return with other options I like better just down the road.

Mexico City Grill is alright — I had lunch with some co-workers and a client here so I didn’t get to consume any of their reportedly tasty margaritas. The interior is cute but the wooden chairs are seriously uncomfortable! I struggled a little with the menu, hoping to find something on the«lighter» side — no dice. Everything seems to be fried or covered with gloppy cheese. I would have been happy with a taco plate or something, which surprisingly is not an option. I ended up with arroz con pollo — the chicken was actually really good. I also tried the famous queso that almost everyone else has mentioned. It is REALLY good — I could see coming back for some tasty margaritas and a bunch of that cheese dip for sure. Service was good too — things were delivered fast and the people that work here seemed genuinely nice.

Fajitas for two. I’ve been here before and had some ok to decent food, but once I tried the Mexico City Fajitas I never wanted anything else. Chicken, beef, shrimp, peppers, and onions, served with tortillas and fajita fixins. You can order them for one or for two, and although fajitas for one could easily feed you and your date the $ 20 price tag for a mound of food can’t be beat. The Cancun margarita, a twist on the classic with pineapple juice, is also a standout.
