The burgers here are FIRE. Definitely worth coming to check em out. For the 2 people I saw working they were faster than most«fast food» places I’ve been to. Get yourself a Double Dan w/Cheese!

The guys are super nice. Prices are right. Product is skimpy on the meat and heavy on the bread and everything artificial. Quite frankly my family couldn’t sleep from stomach cramps and the tihauana trots. Taking the day to recoup.

I have a lunch love/hate relationship with Mr. Dan’s on Massachusetts. Do not select this restaurant for its location — it isn’t conveniently located. Do not select the restaurant for its trendy décor — it is 1950’s style white and orange stripes that are one foot wide(originally called Gay Dan’s — see framed posters on the walls). Do not select this restaurant for its customer service — it reminds you of the«Soup Nazi» from the famous Seinfeld episode. Oh, the parking lot is a mess, the dining room is small, it is either too hot it too cold and it is a dive. If you have made it this far, you are probably wondering what there is to love. As crazy as it sounds, this place makes a great burger and fries — and it takes a little longer than you would like but it is worth the wait. Larger than a fast food burger, toasted bun, but you have to tell them what you want on it or you won’t get it. Get the Big Dan — it will be hot, delicious and plenty of food at a good price. About the same amount you would pay at Burger King for a large meal but with fresh, good food. Again, the draw is the food not the service, location or the building. Ok, the in side the building they have original posters from when the place was named«Gay Dans» but I assume it was changed because of the negative slurs over the years but seeing the old ads was actually interesting to me. If you are in the area, give Mr. Dans a try for a good burger at a good price but you now know what to expect.

well after all this who hah about Mr Dans we decided we wanted to try this. For starters most of their locations have been closed, so we drove 25 miles to this one. I thought it was out of business as i have been calling here for a couple months now and never got an answer on the phone but tonight they answered so we got in the car and went. the place itself is a total and complete dump and how they could every pass a health inspection is beyond me. but hey i have eaten some really good food in not so nice looking places so we decided since we were already there we would eat. their dining room is on a few booths and that is it. but the place was empty so we dined in. they must not have any type of heat as i nearly froze to death trying to eat here. it is 440am on a Friday night/early saturday morning, i ask for biscuits and gravy and she said oh that doesnt start until 5am. so we ordered two burgers, they nickel and dime you for everything or should i say 25 – 50 cents you for everything. anything besides meat and bread is extra. they did have shredded lettuce which i prefer. the frozen hamburger patties are paper thin, so good thing i ordered a double. the cheese is very small i almost complained as i didnt see any on my burger. but it was there. the fries are those shoe string kind and were over cooked so they were like pretzels. i added bacon to my burger and after i had sat down the lady called me back to the counter and said she had forgotten to charge me for the bacon so she had to swipe my credit card again. i wish they had forgotten the bacon all together as it was not very good and paper thin. It was probably a good thing i didnt get the biscuits and gravy because there was this other lady hanging out in the lobby with her pants sagging to her knees, apparently she works there too, one of the ladies hollered over to her to bring the biscuits and she brought a tupperware container of them over to the cook. no thanks. i would not even rank this place up there with rallys or sonic. I am going to go out on a limb and say all the great reviews are from employees and family or from drunks that cant taste anything. definitely not worth a drive. so for now i am still in search for a good late night place for non-drunks to get a good meal. finally update your website or take it down as it is full of inaccurate information

I love the old feel of this place. The burgers are great and the fries are superb. Right down the street from work and will be going there when I «forget» my lunch.

There’s a dude who seems to have the task of cooking everything to order. That’s a good start, no? I’ve been here once. The other dude, the one tasked with taking my order, accepted my «Mr. Dan’s burger, please» and sold me, street style, onions and tomatoes and cheese — it was somewhere between beautiful and pathetic, the way he brought my order up to a reasonable price with extras that shouldn’t have been extras. But I acquiesced, because it seemed rude and un-delicious not to, and got a very nice fast-food burger and VERY nice homestyle potato fry side. And I thought of Unilocal and how I would«A-OK» this business. And then/now I did/have done that.

Mr. Dan’s A GREAT burger joint. Everything is made to order so it does take a little time for your order to be completed. It’s worth it though. Lemonade is great! Burgers are great! Fries are great ! Two problems. 1They don’t have chicken sandwiches. 2The owners wife or owner is COMPLETELY rued to her employees, & even short with her customers. I HATE to see a person talk down to someone. They are even open late on the weekends. Keep in mind though if you are scared to be downtown on circle city classic weekend or expo weekend. Then you Definitely won’t feel comfortable late night at mr dan’s with the post club crowd. I will say the times that I’ve been there late night everyone’s in there talking smack & having a good time.

Ah, Mr. Dan’s. This little burger joint keeps a jaunty retro orange yellow and white color scheme that reminds you faintly of 1974, giving it a slight anachronistic feel. This is the kind of place that Quentin Tarantino would love, and just might sit in the back and write Pulp Fiction ll. Mr. Dan’s has been part of the Indianapolis scene since as far back as I can remember. In fact, Mr. Dan’s is such a familiar fixture in Indy that most people likely drive by it without a second thought. Also, sadly, it has been around so long that some of the neighborhood has deteriorated around it, although there is a pretty good bowling alley nearby. Still, if you are in the neighborhood and spot Mr. Dan’s, it would be a mistake to not stop in and try a «Big Dan» Burger for yourself, especially if you like burgers. First of all, no business stays around for decades if the food isn’t good. This is proof enough that Mr. Dan’s has excellent food. The burgers have a unique flavor and quality that sets them apart from burgers from other places that tend to all taste the same. The Big Dan burger(with everything) is a very satisfying large burger and bun with plenty of fresh trimmings and has a very satisfying burger taste that harkens back to when burgers were burgers. You can even get it with grilled onions. The fries are unique with an unusual pub type seasoning that way pre-dates the chain restaurants’ eponymous seasoned fries. Don’t be off put by the«dive-y» look to the place – just go inside and you’ll see that it is scrupulously clean, including the kitchen. In short its interior and décor are old and out of date, but the clean. Mr. Dan’s knows what it is doing and has been doing it well since at least 1970. You can’t argue with longevity, especially for a burger joint. I do recommend.
