Located in the former Bubbaz Bar & Grill at 75th& Shadeland on Indy’s Northeastside, R&R Bar & Grill is your standard issue strip center bar and grill with a fairly major emphasis on the bar. I’d have sworn that I’d seen a previous listing for R&R on Unilocal, but after a fairly extensive search didn’t turn it up I’m so opting to add its listing. I was fairly excited to finally get a chance to check out R&R as I’d enjoyed my couple of visits to Bubbaz and it looked like much of that spirit had been maintained. I was wrong. R&R will most please those seeking an after work drink with friends. It was pretty clear as soon as I entered the joint that most of its patrons were reasonably familiar with one another and seemed to enjoy each other’s company. While Bubbaz had a fairly relaxing vibe that balanced both bar and grill, R&R might as well hang up the notion of being a grill and just be happy with being a plain olé’ hole in the wall. R&R is located in a small strip center that also houses a Jet’s Pizza, a gyro place and a couple other businesses. The parking lot looked like it had been recently paved. They had clearly identified accessible parking spots with a curb cut. They weren’t perfect, but they worked fairly well. You enter in a two-sided glass door and you have a business where the«bar» and the grill” are essentially divided by a half wall. The bar is on the left and, as is usual, isn’t wheelchair friendly and I definitely avoided it. The grill side amounted to less than a handful of tables, all but one of which were being taken by an obvious after work gathering. The majority of tables were high-tops with a couple exceptions. In fact, I nearly left because I didn’t see the one table that was left that was wheelchair friendly. As I was getting ready to leave, I did one more look around and found it. So, I stayed. This room also includes 2 – 3 pool tables and some other electronic gaming options. The bar itself has a couple of televisions on the wall and they were actively playing sports options. My server arrived after a few minutes, a bit too long in my book, and asked what I was drinking. I will confess I was rather shocked that they didn’t have iced tea. They carry Coke products other than their full bar options. They do have a fairly decent menu that includes burgers, pizza, and other sandwiches. They have some nice $ 4.99 lunch specials, as well. As this is a very business/healthcare area, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do a decent lunch/after work business. My server, whose name I never caught, was friendly and competent but was very clearly more invested in the larger party and seemed almost disturbed that I wasn’t drinking, I was alone and I wanted iced tea. I think she almost fell when I ordered a plain hamburger. I ordered it with tots, but they were out of tots and I went with fries instead. The food was good but not great. With an entire meal for $ 9.75, it’s certainly a pretty good value. For the lack of iced tea alone, I doubt I’d hurry back for a meal as I’ve steered my life away from soft drinks and want to stay that way. For the most part, everything about R&R screamed out average. The food was average, the lack of non-alcoholic drink options was disappointing, the service was average and the atmosphere was your typical bar but definitely on the loud side and the dark side. I was reading a newspaper and definitely strained a bit to read some of the smaller print. It also seemed like the television was excessively loud considering it didn’t really appear anyone was watching it. With so many nearby options, R&R is a place I don’t regret trying but doubt I’ll ever visit again. In fact, I was much more impressed with the folks at the gyros joint. I was kneeling next to my car in my wheelchair before leaving when an employee came out to see if I was okay. Now, THAT is customer service. See R&R? You can do it!
