Rockstone Pizza Pub Nora

On short notice, I called to order pizzas and salad for a company meeting. Usually, I would have tried a place before ordering for work, so I was taking a chance. Thanks for not letting me down Rockstone. My team enjoyed the pizza and the salad was good and tasty with some extra flare to it. They even honored the coupon for us, which kept us under budget !! Thanks we will be back. The Trading team.

I’ve been to the Rockstone Nora location twice now and have been very impressed both times. It’s family friendly but still has enough of an adult feel for my tastes. Service has been really good both times. The spinach dip app was above average. The pizza is also very good. Nothing completely blows me away… but they seem to do everything well. I’ll definitely return.

We arrived at 5:30 only to find out that a party of 45 had reservations. That party didn’t arrive for over 1−½ hours, so we could have eaten and paid long before the party arrived. The food was actually very good, as was the service. It was just a management issue in dealing with reservations.
After our experience and subsequent review, we received a prompt response from the owner. We appreciated how he handled the issue with his staff and how they will work to avoid it in the future. We will definitely come back!

I have to be honest.
I can be a bit of a slacker. I’ve been meaning to get back up to the Rockstone location in Fishers on Allisonville Road, a visit that had been marred by some accessibility issues and an overall middle-​of-​the-​road experience. I appreciated the restaurant’s follow-​up to my visit, but with road construction and my own general slacking tendencies I simply haven’t gotten myself motivated for a follow-​up visit.
I was pretty darn excited when I saw that Rockstone was expanding to Nora alongside Big Lug Canteen in the spot formerly housing the Snooty Fox. While I wasn’t immediately aware of this, it’s pretty obvious the two are owned by the same team (or at least connected). The location has been massively updated, freshened up, re-​paved and otherwise turned into a rather promising little strip center right next to the Monon Trail. As it was my last day off after a four-​day holiday weekend, I decided to spoil myself with a meal despite the overall rainy, dreariness of the day.
As I’ve previously noted, there’s about 4 – 6 accessible spots in this area long with a fairly low sidewalk and a perfectly appropriate curb cut. There’s a double set of doors into the Rockstone, which now also has a location in downtown Indy. Actually billed as the «official pizzeria» of Big Lug, its next door neighbor, Rockstone immediately struck me as a more inviting and comfortable restaurant than its Fishers location. There’s nothing particularly wrong with Fishers, though it feels a lot more like a bar to me than a restaurant. This place has a nice balance of both, with an obvious bar area with widescreen televisions, but also some set apart dining areas and a simple yet attractive outdoor dining area adjacent to the trail with an entrance you can actually access from the trail (I’m not sure if that’s true year-​round).
Rockstone offers up the wood-​fired pizza, offers lunch and dinner (including delivery) and has some pretty cool $ 6.50 combo specials for lunch. As this was a Sunday, I opted for a 10″ italian sausage pizza and my usual unsweetened iced tea. The price came in at just over $ 12 without a tip.
The Rockstone décor is comfortable and attractive with a warmth dominated by woods and the natural beauty of the Monon just outside (though I will admit also seeing the Kroger across the parking lot kills the ambience a bit). They have a nice mixture of tables and booths, though I did notice that it seemed like the majority were not wheelchair friendly (I actually sat at a booth — pulling up to the table. It wasn’t a problem, but it was noticeable and made me look around.
Wood-​fired pizza occasionally has a reputation for lighter toppings, though Rockstone was generous with the toppings and cheese. The pizza is supposed to be a tad burnt in spots, though this was definitely very good pizza and I would easily order it again. The iced tea was also good and I did get a refill. I had no problem finishing off the pizza, though the words «I’m full» were mumbled as I finished up.
Sean, my server, was friendly and hospitable with a casual demeanor and a willingness to let me linger while I read my Sunday paper while facing the Monon. It was quite lovely.
While I’m not quite willing to go the 5^th star just yet, preferring to say it’s «very good» over «excellent,» I’d easily dismiss the 1-​star review as ludicrous and likely to be taken with a grain of salt (even though I’ve never actually know what that means!). Rockstone is a welcome addition to the Nora area and serves as a terrific companion for Big Lug. I easily preferred this location to Fishers, though this visit has motivated me to give Fishers another try.

I’ve visited twice and was originally at 4 stars (quite good for Indy), but I notched upward because of the exceptional service both times and also to counter the first one-​star review that unfairly offered no real insight… I really think this woman was reviewing the wrong place (maybe Big Lug Canteen next door, which is very loud. Same owners… and same good beer). Wifey and I certainly haven’t shared her bad experience.
This place is definitely NOT loud, and we’re as sensitive as they come… on both Saturday night visits, the music was audible, the conversations fairly subdued, and the sound was OFF from the TVs (thank you!). The prices are pretty reasonable once you consider the quality of the ingredients ($ 4 is a steal for a roasted beet & goat cheese salad over crisp arugula).
If your ideal pizza is just salty meat and tons of cheese, this might not be your place… they’re way more sensitive than that in this joint, with the emphasis on good flavors. Or just order extra cheese if you need to. I’d put their pizza on par with Bazbeaux, Some Guys, Pizzology, and Jockamo’s.
The roasted beet salad was tasty, nice fresh greens & homemade dressing. The pizzas we’ve tried so far are the Rustica, Fun Guys, and Ratatoulle (sp?). Heavy on the vegetables, light on the cheese, good fresh stuff across the board. One crust was mushy toward the middle, the others were crisp all through. If you sit at the bar (left end, near the kitchen), you can see the amount of greenery on the plates… one sandwich looked more like a salad until the top slice went on.
Pretty good variety of draft beer, 20-​some taps total. The house beers are solid… the winners with us are the Bull Moose 4.5% session IPA that tastes full, not watery, and they make a good oatmeal stout.
Sit at the bar, the service will be damn good… never an empty glass. These are veterans that have likely been imported from Sahm’s other establishments). If you’ve been unfortunate enough to sit at the bar at Hop Cat, you’ll immediately appreciate the difference. If it’s chilly, sit at the left end of the bar and you’ll catch some of the heat from the wood burning oven.
This will become a regular stop for us, as will Big Lug when the initial rush settles down. It pushes our biggest buttons: Quiet, high quality food, good beer, and good service so far.

Yay for another food option in the Nora area! I’d been to the Rockstone in Fishers and was a fan, and this one in Nora also did not disappoint.
As an appetizer, I ordered the small Rockstone salad which was delicious with its spicy peppers. I hate when I order a salad and I get a pathetic pile of iceburg lettuce and a couple grape tomatoes, so I was especially happy that Rockstone offers a robust, delicious salad with homemade dressing. Yum!
My only complaint would be that some of their beers are small pours and still cost the same amount as a regular 16 oz pint. Obviously, I understand if they are small pours due to their alcohol content being high, but this was a regular, normal 6% beer. So… what gives? All of their house beers are pint size and are $ 5 each, so that’s a good deal. I’ll stick to those in the future.
We ordered the meatball pizza and it was so good! The crust on the pizza was soooo good. Seriously, one of the better pizzas I’ve had.
I like the interior of the restaurant and service was fairly good, even though it was a busy Friday night. We’ll definitely be back!

Gotta say didn’t love it. I will start outside and walk you in. Love the area where The Snooty Fox was got a huge face lift. Makes the area look so much nicer. Walking in we were greeted at say by a very nice hostess. We were greeted in a timely manner by our server. We ordered breadsticks and cheese and tomato sauce. Sticks were good but a bit greasy. I’m guessing they are deep fried? The breadsticks or the cheese lacked salt. Pizza we ordered was Meatzorilla. I liked the meats not the crust or cheese. The cheese was not fully melted and the crust still very doughy. It could have stayed longer in the oven. Server was not as attentive as he could have been. Sat too long with empty glasses and weren’t offered a refill when we got our check. If we go back we will try a sandwich and skip the pizza.

I am only giving them 1 star because the service was average but the food is terrible. The restaurant is kind of dirty, very loud and expensive for the type and quality of food they offer.
