Went there for the $ 5 Sunday brunch. Ordered quiche and was served the Bees Knees sandwich instead — which was excellent, but that is really all you get: no side, no garnish. The décor could be shabby charming were it not for the large cardboard carton in the main dining area. Do I wish just a little more attention were paid to the décor and meal presentation and that a little something(a few greens?) accompanied the meal? Yes. Was it worth $ 5 and would I return? Yes.

Served is a tiny restaurant in Little Flower that has a small menu of a few sandwiches. But every one of those sandwiches is FABULOUS! The owner uses veggies and herbs that he has grown himself, when possible. And each sandwich comes with chips that he cooks while making the sandwich. I don’t even like potato chips, but I love these things! He’ll also have special items every so often. He’s on facebook, and I recommend friending him for the details. For the most part it is a one-man business, though occasionally people will cover for him. He is also getting ready to start a NY style pizza truck, which I am really looking forward to! I forgot to mention that he also has brunch on weekend mornings! I haven’t made it in yet, but I have heard it is excellent. He has quiches and other items. And his prices are generally around $ 6.

The owner, Justin, is a super nice guy. He runs the entire show. Everything is made to order and delicious. I had a butter burger on homemade bread, topped with fresh ingredients. This was my first visit, and I will definitely be returning soon. It’s worth the trip to the eastside!

New spot on my favorites list! The Bees Knees is delicious & the strawberries were a total surprise. Also had the Hawaiian BBQ sliders; sweet, spicy, completely scrumptious. Fresh hot made to order potato chips, awesome. The owner, Justin, was on his way out, but stayed to make our meal. Super sweet & much appreciated. We will come back & hope to get more people supporting Justin. Really, great food & a great guy.

Justin is the owner, waiter, and host all rolled into one, and he is bound and determined to get his food out there. He’s friendly, and he grows almost all of his own ingredients. What he can’t grow by himself, he buys locally. He also supports local charities; Served participates in Dining Out for Life, giving a significant portion of his sales to help people with HIV/AIDS. The day I went to eat I hadn’t checked the hours, but I called ahead to place an order for pickup. He answered, and it turns out he wasn’t typically open on Mondays — but he went ahead and took my order anyways! I got there a half-hour later, and the sandwich was ready for me. I had the meatloaf sandwich, and it used arugula instead of lettuce — something I’ve never actually seen before. Odd as it sounds, it was absolutely delicious — more restaurants should try it! Arugula is healthier for you than lettuce anyways. The chips were also freshly sliced and still warm; you could just TASTE their freshness. I’m not typically on the East Side — but I will DEFINITELY travel there for Served!

I live within walking distance and was excited to see Served open. Unfortunately my first experience wasn’t good. When we first arrived we ordered our sandwiches and the owner/cook proceeded to tell us all about how«Joseph» tried to get him to donate food for neighborhood gatherings.(The names have been changed to protect the innocent.) Now I didn’t know«Joseph» at that point, but I just couldn’t help thinking about how a small business owner would kill his business by talking about neighborhood advocates in a bad way to strangers. Our sandwiches came and they were okay. I ordered the balsamic mushroom and it was good but it had WAY too much balsamic vinaigrette. The chips were delicious. I was full from my sandwich but my hubby said he was hungry before we even crossed 10th street. Every time I want to go here it is closed. The hours are weird(brunch starts WAY too late for me… I’ve already had breakfast AND lunch by 1pm, usually at the Steer In on the weekends.) And the hours depend on the mood of the owner, he closes up shop on whim. I just don’t know how anyone will ever know you are open if you close just because you have to work in the garden. I also«liked» Served on FB and I am constantly turned off by the negative posts about his neighboring businesses. I guess it is more of a mindset than a food thing to me. I’ve heard the brunch is really good, but I’m doubt I will give it a chance.

We used an iphone app to locate a brunch restaurant and ended up at Served this morning right at 11:30 when he opened. The space is small and spartan and it’s pretty much fend for yourself with drinks and silverware. The chef and apparently only employee told us what was being offered today, 4 types of quiche served with a green salad and french toast with homemade syrup. He apologized for not having the hibiscus syrup available because he just couldn’t get hibiscus this week. I was sold on the French toast then and there, I had no idea one could make homemade syrup let alone hibiscus syrup. I ordered the port wine syrup which was delicious, like nothing I’ve ever had. The vegetable quiche was a hit with one member of our party and the bacon quiche(with lots of other ingredients I don’t recall) was a winner withe the other two. By the time we finished eating it was standing room only. I have no idea how keeps up. No one seemed surprised by this situation or the least bit bothered by the unique set up. The food alone would bring me back but from the other reviews it looks as if he uses fresh local ingredients which is fantastic. Add in the fact that he is a small business owner making a go of it on his own ensures that I will support Served, if for no other reason then to make certain that sure that the French toast is available the next time I want it, plus, I’ve got to try the hibiscus syrup.

This is a new spot on the corner of 10th Street and Bosart Avenue. It’s small but clean and inviting. The menu isn’t huge but there is still something for everyone. The food is grown in the owner’s garden, or freshly made by him– and I hear he’s looking into other locally sourced items, too. The portabello sandwich that I had was on freshly baked bread with balsamic and onions… hand cut chips, too. Sandwich/chips, $ 6. Supposed to have a really great Sunday brunch but haven’t made it in for that yet. French toast with port syrup sounds ah. maze. ing. I’ll let you know. The East side of Indianapolis needed a place like this!
