Swinterland Bobba Tea & Snow Ice

I had the coffee snow ice that was a little bit of cranny heaven in a dish. Delicious flavor and a lovely texture topped with coco puffs, chocolate chips, and two wafer sticks. If I could eat another right now, I would, but I am too full because it was a generous portion. It may seem a little high priced relative to am ice cream treat, but you get a lot for the price; and it’s worth it. The staff was very nice and threw in a complimentary topping. It’s a cute little Internet café style of set up and in a convenient location for attracting the IUPUI traffic. They also have bubble tea and smoothies, but I don’t know when I’ll try them because the snow ice was so good.

Upon coming to Swinterland, I had high expectations of a milk tea/​snowy shop because I’ve been to a countless number of them. It has always disappointed me that Indy never had one — before this café opened, you would’ve needed to travel to Chicago for the best cup of milk tea.
However, Swinterland blew me away. I’ve been here a couple of times now; I usually order a Mango Mountain Snowy or a Swinterland Milk Tea with boba. Their food is completely authentic and their tea/​boba are made fresh every morning, not to mention, it tastes really good!
Overall, the atmosphere was very welcoming; friendly staff, clean and cozy environment. Swinterland even has a free laptop bar with wifi as well as a «comfy corner» with sofas and games.
Would highly recommend this place to others!

Not too bad, one mango mountain snow ice was enough to take of a family of three — good portions.
I feel they need to have some promotions, add new items to their menu, and possibly educate the community to try their products.
During our visit here the mango pieces were sour but was able to eat around them.
Overall a nice hang out during the summer.

If you want a place close to IUPUI campus with decent prices to satisfy your bubble tea craving, this should fulfill.
I’m not saying that this place is the best — there are definitely better places in Indy, but their variety of drinks, variety of flavors, internet café interior and friendly staff make it worth-​while to visit at least once.
The bubble teas are made from powder, except for the Swinterland one (which I think tastes just like Soymilk but actually it’s black tea — so the tea is very smooth).
Additionally, they serve shaved ice! I’ve never seen a shop in this area do that before, so that’s an option you should definitely try! Prices are decent and toppings abundant. However, don’t expect a majority of the fruit to be fresh. I think only the kiwis, strawberries and raspberry’s are? Not 100% sure.

I miss places like this and am glad that Indy got one but this place is hit and miss, namely because of inconsistency. I’ve ordered similar things from here on different occasions and have gotten a different results… variability in the quantity, amount of sweetness, amount of boba, a lot of things. There needs to be consistency with a product.
Also, I’d recommend using fresh fruit as opposed to powders and syrups… you’d get a lot more people in the door that way.
So all in all, I’ve had much better but I will probably keep coming back because this is all I got

Was really disappointed in this place. I was initially excited that Indianapolis had an equivalent to our beloved SnowBar in Huntington Beach CA, but this place was terrible. The service wasn’t very good and the lady helping us was not very friendly. The Taro snow was so bland and tasted nothing like the Taro I know. I was also disappointed they didn’t have mochi or lychee fruit! The fruit they did have was not even fresh. It was also way over priced. We will not be coming back.

Lots of fresh fruit, adding fruit jelly, and piling it on flavored shaved ice. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds. They also had small netbooks next to the counter that you can use to surf the web while eating. Nice décor. It was awesome. Will make another visit soon. If you’ve ever woken up on a white winter morning wishing for a snow day, you know to look down at the road to check for one thing: Is it sticking? There’s the wet snow that melts on contact (no snow day) and the light, airy, fluffy kind that you just want to roll around in (YES! SNOW DAY!). Now imagine that the second kind (the airy, fluffy stuff), was edible and flavored like mango, taro, matcha, strawberry, or chocolate just to name a few. That fantasy is a reality, that food is a dessert called shaved snow (aka shaved ice «cream»).
Swinterland really is a dream come true. I wish this place existed 8 years ago when I was still on IUPUI’s campus. I’d come here between those «tired of studying and sleeping at the library» 3 hours between classes. This so called «shaved snow» is super popular on the West Coast, Las Vegas, or anywhere you find a large Asian population. To have it Indy, it’s really a treat, and why it hasn’t caught on like the dozens of froyo places, I simply don’t understand you Indy peepz!
If you peek over the counter of wifi pubic laptops there are colorful hunks of frozen cylindrical flavored blocks in an upright freezer. Those blocks go into this machine which spins and shaves the frozen block into fluffy ribbons. The result is feathery, sweet, creamy, and ice-​cold fluff. It tastes like eating clouds because it all melts in your mouth instantly.
Swinterland specializes in «Snowies». That’s what they call it. I recommend going with the fruit or special snowies which you get the whole shebang, flavors paired with the perfect toppings. I wish the specials had descriptions rather than me asking what’s in every single one. The mango mountain is my absolute favorite. For under $ 7, I get this massive cup full of mango snow, fresh cut mangos, mango jam with coconut jellies, condensed milk drizzle, and a cookie stick. So nutritious, refreshing, and satisfying that we returned the next day. The sweet girl who made our snowies also made some bubble tea for us to sample. I really appreciated that she brought those out, but powdered bubble tea isn’t my thing. I’d like to see them make fresh fruit smoothies someday.
As a loyal customer, I wish they had a punch card for every purchase and once you acquire 10 punches or something, you get a freebie. I think they should feature a special flavor of the day like Culver’s to switch it up. Who knows, maybe that special will be so loved it becomes a permanent part of the menu. Even though it’s April and 28 degrees outside, I’m still craving a snowy even if holding the cup makes my hands freeze. It’s just that addictive.

Cute little place! Very nicely decorated. Reminds me of a Korean coffee shop. This place has a cool vibe. Top 40 playing and they have tv with plenty of seating. We were the only ones and I can see with the weather no one wants to do a cold drink. But they do have options of making drinks hot. My go to drink was milk tea and it definitely was good and refreshing. It really tastes like the real deal. When the weather starts getting warmer I’ll be back to try the shave ice! I have high hopes for this place and hope they do well. This place is great for college kids to unwind and a place to study. Music is kind of loud but if you can tune it out give this place a try!

Upon entering, I noticed that it was pretty empty, but the place is set up well, with, what looked like tablets set up with bar stools to functional as an internet café. You can surf the web while also enjoying your dessert. The staff also seemed very friendly.
I ordered a hot taro bubble tea, half sweetened, which I considered as one of the reasons, if not the top reason why I am giving this place 5 stars. I am giving it this rating solely from my own hot tea experience, as the tea was not overly cloying and a nice recovery from the cold, snowy day. Other places that offer bubble tea (such as Bento nearby) were unable to make my order less sweet, claiming that all drinks were premixed with sugar. It seemed like Swinterland also uses a dry mix for their bubble teas (maybe fresh fruit someday?!). However one negative point was, from tasting my friends’ iced bubble teas, that I noticed that the texture of the bubbles was still frozen. For this, I am docking a star and for good reason. The warm nature of my drink made them an appropriate texture. Be warned if you get the iced version! I would also be willing to try the flavored shaved ices sometime — I was just short on time today. The prices were ~$ 3 for the bubble tea and ~$ 7 for the shaved ice — relatively reasonable.
Anyway, I would give this place a try! Business seemed pretty slow, understandably because of the weather, but it seems like a niche dessert place if you’re wanting to try something new.
