Bummer! The sign on the door indicates that they have been evicted! It isn’t open and I am very disappointed by this. Have been wanting to go for awhile now. I hope they relocate!

VERY over priced for rice & beans. I was so excited to find an authentic cuban resturant in Indy but was very disappointed when I finally got to try it. The quality was just ok. Serving size was very small and very over priced.

It’s a small little place that seems like it is «family-run.» The service is slow, no problem if you are not in a hurry; and there are no adult drinks. With that said if you need a drink to have a lengthy conversation with the people you are dining with this may not be the choice for you! I had the Cuban sandwich, the first thing I always try at a Cuban restaurant. IT was really good, they use the proper bread so when pressed it tastes just right. The sauces they made were a little on the bland side but I generally use a hot sauce on my Cuban and that was fine. Overall it’s a great little Cuban place and we all enjoyed our sandwiches. I don’t know how the entrees would be so my rating is based on three of us all thinking the Cuban was good.

This was a fantastic meal. Service was attentive, food quality was great, and delicious. This is maybe 40 seats max, but there was availability for us on Saturday late night, 9pm. I did not order a sandwich but a shrimp stew something or other(sorry, I dont remember!). We would def eat here again. The pineapple cuban soda was super sugary but reminded me of Inca cola(peru).

Really? Really? I ordered #4. I didn’t realize that the lone employee in back was actually pre-chewing the meat on my sandwich. Cow’s here in the midwest regurgitate their food. I don’t expect this experience in any venue. Pork is meat, not a grind. Bland? Beyond bland. The dipping sauce was even worse. Brown water. Ugh! 25 minutes after placing my order this gross concoction showed up steaming hot. Never mind that ½ the table was finished with their lunch. It was the perfect storm and getting worse. Overpriced and underflavored. Please! How does it get any worse? Yuck

Pig supreme, pig utopia. I love TaTa’s pork leg entrée so much that it makes me audibly oink. I used to think«ehh, pork is okay but it’s not my favorite.» The #7 dish at TaTa completely altered my stance. If every pig tasted like this, I wouldn’t ever need any other type of meat. The depth of flavor, the tenderness, the salty richness, it’s a complete experience. The accompanying rice and plantains are a perfect compliment.(Oh, and the Cuban sandwich here is probably the best version I’ve ever had… and that’s factoring in Unilocal-acclaimed versions in Puerto Rico and Miami.) Celebrate pig. Eat #7 at TaTa and be pork-revolutionized.

We stopped in here for lunch yesterday and it was wonderful! It was about 70 degrees out, and the front door was propped open, but inside was stifling, so we sat out front, which was really perfect. After checking out the menu, I wanted to try everything. It all looked absolutely delicious, but alas, I know I always love a Cuban sandwich, so I ordered that, along with an iced tea. What is it with this town and the sweet/unsweet tea? Well, the server did not bother to ask my preference, so when I took a big drink of syrupy sweet tea, I nearly spit it back out. It was much, much later before she bothered to come back out, which was strange since only one of the four or five tables inside had customers. I told her I needed unsweetened tea. She acted like she didn’t understand me, but she finally said she would switch it out for me. Five more minutes pass. By this time, the customers she had inside had left. Where is my tea? A couple of minutes lter, she comes out with a water and annouces they do not have unsweet tea. Even more time passes, and we finally get our sandwiches. Since there were two of us, you might think I mean two sandwiches, but the size of these things, oh my! It was like four sandwiches!!! See the pic I posted. The sliced pork was nice and thick, the bread was perfectly delicious and pressed, and the pickles were sweet. We also had a little cup of sauce for dipping. I needed a go box for half, but since I was headed to the airport next, I wouldn’t really be able to take it, so I just went ahead and ate the whole frikkin thing. No way was I going to leave any of that perfect sandwich! Another reviewer complained about overpriced, but I completely disagree, as was only $ 8.95, I think. Well worth it! I would defiitely give this place five stars for the food, but the slowwwww and unknowledgeable server brings it down a notch.

After reading some of the other reviews I’d probably give this place four stars had I ordered a sandwich instead of the shredded beef entrée. They do have a good selection of Cuban sandwiches and they looked very tasty coming out of the kitchen. The shredded beef entrée I had was just average; it came with rice and plantains. The portion size was rather small for the price and I felt that the dish should have included black beans to go with the rice but that was extra. I also ordered their soup which was very good and was loaded with chicken and vegetables. The place is small but comfortable and the service was very good. They do not have alcohol which was disappointing. Nothing like a nice cold beer to go with good Cuban food. I do intend to try this place again because the Cuban sandwiches did look great and I’m sure after trying one of those mouth watering sandwiches I’ll probably edit my review to four stars.

I’ve walked by this place many times and never stopped in. I am glad I finally got in on the calendar! Loved the Cuban sandwich, but the dishes friends had were great too! Fun atmosphere with Latin music! We were a group of six. It’s a small place, but could accommodate a group size of 8 comfortably. I can’t wait to bring more friends and try this place again.

I’m a sucker for a Cuban sandwich and this place has a whole section of their menu devoted to them. They are huge here and I love the extra spice they impart with the sauces. If you can, sit outside in the patio area for a view of the Capitol Building and Monument Circle. Great for people watching.

I was with a party of ten that became a party of twelve which, I understand, can be a pain for a small restaurant. This was some of the worst service i’ve ever had. The ten minute wait for a table was fourtyfive. Once we sat down our waitress ignored us. We had to wait for water, for menus, for drinks. Once we ordered our food took forever and didn’t come out anywhere close to together. It’s a shame because once the food did come everyone was happy with it. If you’re gonna visit I reccomend a small party.

I had high expectations for this place when I stopped in for lunch with co-workers this afternoon. Guess I shouldn’t have psyched myself up for it so much… Food was 3⁄5 — mediocre. Nothing really special. Expected a TON of Cuban flavor and deliciousness. annnnd, well, I’ve had better Cuban sandwiches at Creation Café. The plantains were interesting, though nothing to rave about in my opinion. Service was fine. No real rating needed here. Not much of an issue. I didn’t go without water, and our server was friendly and attentive, however, that didn’t really make a difference when it came to the food. Atmosphere, well, it’s really a «hole-in-the-wall» type place. The UPS office is right next door and if you’ve ever been inside that, that’s nearly the exact same size as the restaurant. Careful if you’re claustrophobic. Also, there was a strange music video/cartoon mix thing playing on the TV behind us. Maybe it’s a cultural thing. But eh. Overall, I probably won’t be back.

Tata is just a bit over the edge of «very good» for me. I’ve gone in on off-peak times, which has yielded pretty slacker service overall. But really I think that just goes with the laid-back, out-of-place Carribean-Latin vibe you really do get here. It’s cozy, Cuban, and delicious. The good food is a bit overpriced. Except the fried plantains, which I’d probably pay $ 100 a basket for on a good day(not really, Cubanos)! Tata is always playing Gloria Estefan, which tickles a nostalgic vibe for me and always makes the place that much more comfortable. Of course I have yet to try the famous mojitos, but I plan to. If you’re in Indy, especially, stop by at least for something different.

I researched all the places I wanted to try in Indianapolis before my trip there and this was one of them. I had checked out their menu before hand and was planning to try their shrimp dish. But when I went there, I didn’t see it on the menu. I asked the waitress and was told, oh, prawns, like on the dinner menu? You want dinner menu?(It was like 4:30, weird timing, I know). I guess I could’ve said yes, but I didn’t want to trouble them with it if they weren’t supposed to serve dinner menu until later so I said that it’s ok and I’d just try their pork leg entrée. Although, in hind sight, when you look online, their lunch and dinner menu is exactly the same and they both include the shrimp entrée. I’m still a bit confused about that. Anyway, so the pork leg dish came out shortly, with my drink order of iced tea. I asked for sweetened, but again, it was too sweet(is that an Indy thing? To make sweet tea more like, syrup with a dash of tea?). As for the pork leg, it was a giant slice of pork leg, skin included. Parts near the skin was juicy and tender, while other parts were kind of tough. Plantains were good(like, duh of course lol) and rice/beans were good. I also liked that I was alone but didn’t feel very awkward eating, plus I stared at tons of Cuban music videos while I munched away. Would I come back again? Yes. but next time, I might go in a little later and order the shrimp dish :)

Don’t fret TaTa Cuban… the fact that David Bowie’s «London Bye Bye Ta Ta,» runs thru my mind every time I think of you is a great thing! I’m sitting there singing: «Red light. Green light. Make up your mind,» because I want my Cuban food done right! My lunch-mate had a fine idea… arrive at 1130 to beat the rush. Success! I passed up the half-sandie half-soup lunch special for a full entrée — mainly because they started the description with«Pork leg.» They didn’t need to go any further. They mysteriously served this with a sharp knife. Mysterious because aren’t they aware of how Tata-lizing tender and pull-a-part-able this pork is? Served amidst peppers & onions — with a traditional heap of red beans & rice, along with plaintains. Havana other please? Giving us downtown diversity for lunch, this mom & pop Cuban spot makes Indy feel like a major metro; London maybe? Note: sit facing in to the restaurant, so you can get the full effect of the flat-screen music video imagery!

This was my first trip to TaTa Cuban Café. And though I’m downtown all the time, it’s tucked away on Market St. west of all of the hustle and bustle. I went there as part of an Indianapolis TasteCasting event. What was great is that the owner and chef came out to explain his background and what he hopes to accomplish with the restaurant: to not only serve authentic Cuban food but to also bring a flavor of Cuban culture to Indianapolis. I’ve never had Cuban before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. If you like Mexican, Creole, Cajun and/or Caribbean, you’ll like Cuban food. And you’ll like what TaTa serves up. My favorite dish was the Arroz Amarillo Cienfuego. It consisten of grilled chicken covered in a mojo marinade with yellow rice and corn. The chicken was amazingly tender. We also had a chance to try out Cuban coffee. Wow! Only one cup needed. So if you’re in downtown Indy and looking to try something different, away from the chains, give Tata Cuban Café a chance. You won’t be disappointed. And, oh yeah, you have to get the flan.

Que bueno! My girlfriend and I had this place almost completely to ourselves when we held our weekly pre-class dinner meeting here recently. Cute little place with simple décor and that wonderful«hole-in-the-wall» aesthetic. There is also outdoor dining, but it was raining the evening of our visit so we were forced to sit inside. I suppose we’ll just have to return. I had the roasted pork with black beans and rice and plaintains and my friend chose the grilled chicken dish with yellow rice and plaintains. Oh my! The pork was so delicious. It was tender and perfectly seasoned just like I remembered from the days I worked alongside a Cuban woman who would often bring this dish in for the whole office to share. The plaintains, well, those I could make a meal of by themselves! My only suggestion would be for TaTa to pre-slice or shred the pork leg roast… it was literally a ginormous chunk of meat and cutting it, tender as it was, with a butter knife was a challenge at times. I recommend taking half your meal home in order so that you can enjoy a slice of the homemade flan. It is the perfect ending to a great Cuban meal.
