Jax did a great job. Very relaxing environment and a great way to spend some time while at the mall. Highly recommend The Art of Shaving. This was my first time being shaved and I’ll go back for sure. Great products also.

I have been a loyal customer of the barber for my monthly haircut for the last several years. There recently has been a change in personnel. The new barber does not compare favorably to the one I have dealt with before. She seemed nervous and inexperienced. I can understand that. But she was also sloppy and ignored important details. The worst example is she never applied the shaving apron around my neck. Instead she just placed it onto my chest. After my haircut I had to go directly home to shower off the clippings. Then, the new barber was less than meticulous in the cutting of my hair leaving noticeable differences from one side of my head to the other. She was nice enough, but needs to get much more experience. She also must be more meticulous with the actual haircut.

I am a fan. A few years ago, I looked up the top shaving creams to be found. There were two from england and one from the US. The one from US = The Art of Saving. So, I bought some online. Went through it and thought, ehhh — okay, it was alright, but why was it the top. I tried the others and pretty much thought the same thing — «ehhh» A few days ago, I was at Keystone Mall and walked in the Art of Shaving. I told the person the story above and showed her my neck that was breaking out. She asked me questions, asked me to show her how I shave and then told me, in nicer words, that I was shaving wrong. She walked to the sink and showed me step by step how to prep and shave. Then, I bought the oil, cream and lotion. Two days after I went home and started shaving the way she showed me, my neck is clear and my shave feels good. I’ve been shaving wrong for years(not up for math right now to calculate how many years — but I’m 47, so many). And, now I see why this stuff is one of the best on the planet. I’m sold! – it was kinda weird that I had to be shown how to properly shave by a woman. But she knows her stuff!

Walked In at 645 to get a shave. Was told the one person in the chair would take the full 2 hours and 15 minutes to do their cut and shave and would not even ask if the barber would do the shave after. Lady at the front was rude and wouldn’t even look to see if there was an appointment the following day. Just told me they were booked all week. Don’t waste your time or your money on this place. I used to drive to Chicago to get my Art of Shaving fix. Now that there’s a location in the Fashion Mall I’m on cloud nine. At first blush, you may think that paying over $ 100 for a refillable razor is a waste of money. However, once you use one of their handles(the blades are standard Gillette), you will never go back to plastic supermarket cheapies. The weight is perfectly balanced and it makes shaving a pleasure, rather than a chore. Service in the store is impeccable and the workers remember you whenever you return.

I walked in here for the first time after finding out about it months ago and was greeted with a wealth of knowledge and help from a very nice woman. I’ve always been curious about the«art of shaving», as I really hate my Mach 3, but have had a proper shave from a barber with a straight razor. The woman here answered all my questions, no matter how dumb, and guided me to selecting my first double edged safety razor along with a kit. She demonstrated how to properly use a brush, and the steps needed to get the best shave. I haven’t tried my recent purchase yet due to time restraints, but I’m really excited to put my new found knowledge to the test. This place has razors from the low to the high end, and they offer shaves as well. One day I’ll treat myself to one of those.

I got the standard shave as a Christmas gift from my girlfriend, and went in and fulfilled it today. I’ve been to the shop a few times before, and I’ve used Art of Shaving products as well. Getting a good shave is a fantastic way to pamper yourself as a dude, and there are very few places where you can have it done. I spent a few months traveling through India and have fond memories of spending 50 rupees(about a buck) on a fantastic straight razor shave with all the fixings. It’s much more expensive here, but it’s well worth it. For those of you who only shave with a Mach Five and a can of that gel nonsense, I would highly recommend getting a shave here to see just how much better it can be. You get a hot towel to start with, followed by a pre-shave oil, some really nice hot lather, and two passes with a single blade razor. After that you get some toner spray, a cold towel, and a moisturizer treatment. Very fancy — and super relaxing. The barber is a cool lady from Iceland; she definitely knows her stuff. I can’t say I would recommend actually buying the products from Art of Shaving — it’s all tremendously expensive. While it is important to use good product when shaving, you can save a ton of money by just ordering stuff online.

I for one believe that shaving is an art. I appreciate the tradition of a vintage shave and about a year ago made the switch to a badger brush and double edge safety razor. I mean really, this is something we have to anyway, why not make it a ritual. A process where you take your time and develop into an aficionado? I highly recommend it if you haven’t tried it. And the Art of Shaving is a great place to be introduced. The store itself is fairly basic, their market tactic is to develop and perfect each element of a great shave. 1. The pre-shave oil 2. Shaving cream 3. Post shave balm They have 4 scents with the same elements. Simple, but prestigious. They have an array of different types of razors and brushes. Don’t be alarmed at the prices, some can get pretty lofty. But as with anything else, you get what you pay for. Every time I have gone in the staff have been extremely nice and helpful, not to mention extremely knowledgeable about their product and possibly even teaching you a thing or two about how to shave properly. Now the crescendo, not only do they sell a great product they have a certified barber come in on the weekends. A little background of how I experienced this for myself. I was running a couple of errands and I got a text from my wife telling me to go to the keystone mall @1000, park and wait for further instructions. I played along and the text that followed told me to check the change drawer in the car,(which had a roll of cash in it!!!) and head inside. She proceeded to tell me she scheduled me for a shave and enjoy.(yeah, she’s pretty awesome). So I did. The barber(I’m mad I can’t remember her name) was amazing. Born overseas, lived and NY, now in Indy… knows her stuff. This was like what I imagine getting a pedi or mani for a girl. It was the most relaxing hour I’ve ever spent. They start with a hot towel treatment, then she applies the pre-shave oil. Then comes the shaving cream. I will say, the only reason this didn’t get 5 stars is because(according to the barber), they are not allowed to use a brush, or strait edge razor for sanitary reasons. The shaving cream came from a heated gadget which unfortunately took something a little special away from the ritual. She did have a disposable razor that fits in a straight razor handled contraption which was ok, but again, a little disappointing. With that said, she takes her time with the shave paying close attention to the contours of your face. Then, she does it all over again ensuring she gets every nook and cranny. Wonderful is what it is. An awesome way to spend my Saturday morning. I think I’ll have to treat myself to this again.
