This Unilocal is not only one that has been a long time in coming, but it’s one of gigantic proportions, on so many levels, and it is one of those pay-it-forward places where even the smallest support is far reaching. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Park, on Magadi Road, in Nairobi, Kenya is known all over the place for managing an orphanage for elephants and rhinos. They also reintroduce these creatures back into the Kenya wildlife. I have been involved with them, from a distance, for quite awhile. This preserve and trust also limits poaching, aids conservation efforts with the locals, and has an ultra unbelievable vet unit that runs all over the place retrieving the injured and abandoned orphans. My students have, most recently, helped with small events to foster these orphans and me, being Gemma, have 3 foster«kids» there myself: all under the age of 10 and all over 5,000 pounds. It’s pretty amazing that efforts way over there can take shape from a host of satellites over here and to see the keepers interact with these beautiful animals is totally cool; with weekly journal entries and updates as to their care and progress. Now, how do I plan the ultimate field trip??? Thanks Sheldrick Wildlife for putting all things in true perspective!
