Went looking for records while home for Chirstmas. Cheap prices, but couldn’t find anything in good enough condition to buy(though I did see a couple of rare records for under $ 10… if only they weren’t beat to hell). If I lived in Indy I would probably stop by here every few months or so to see if I could get lucky.

I just can’t get behind this place as a record store. I support their whole deal, but it’s just not a good record store. It’s so dark in some places that you can’t read the records in the filthy, misshapen bins. Their prices are great and I always feel like I got a good deal when I can manage to find something that isn’t just totally cooked. For every 1 I buy, I put 6 back because they are just torched. It’s mostly what I’d consider flea marked quality for the most part. I’ll give them 3 stars for the small bin up front that has all the good stuff in it and $ 4 hardcore 7“s.

Literally been here for almost 3hrs. They have a very extensive collection of vinyls most for only $ 1. I highly recommend here, but be careful you might leave here with 50 vinyls.

Love coming in this place! I first discovered it while waiting for a table at Zest! They have an extensive dollar section. A whole afternoon could be spent going through the racks. I liked that most of their vinyl is used and has character. Vibes is probably my favorite music store in the village.

Ah, Vibes — my first local, independent record/music store experience — one of the most unique environments for music that young up-and-coming hardcore/metal kids in the 317 can have. The *new-ish* location is somewhat out of the way(though a closer jaunt than before) and availability of new music has lagged somewhat in recent times, but it’s still got that independent feel. I pretty much got through high school, college, and beyond, my purchasing most, if not all, of my music collection from the old 82nd Street location. It’s kind of seedy, definitely NOT the place you’d go for the latest radio hits or pop music, but you’ll know you’ll find something good with each visit. I spent WAY too much money here from late ’96 through 2008… good times. The staff was always stellar; I made some great acquaintances over the years and ALWAYS got solid recommendations and plenty of laughs from the cast of characters who worked there over the years — the glory days of Rik, Aaron, Bob, and John will never be forgotten! TONS of used CDs and vinyl — I picked up two rare records, one of which I’d been searching for since at least 2001, and a used CD on my last visit home to Indy. Vibes still has the kinda-sketchy feel to it, though there are way more piles of randomness these days. Was happy/surprised to see some of the original framed artwork/posters still hanging in the new location. Rock on Vibes… you’ll always have a special place in my heart.

Been to this so-called ‘new location’ a few times in the last year. ITs okay. Use discretion when flipping thru the album section. Some records are priced way too high for the condition they are in. But then again, if you look hard enuf, you WILL find some discs worth the cash. The last time I was in there-July 4th-the only customer… phew was the place EVERSOHOT-NOAIRCONDITION!!! The dude behind the counter was gazzing away on Bobby Plant and James Patrick Page(kinda in a dazed and confused demeanor too). Dont think he’d care if anyone inc me bought anything that day, since it was HISTURN to sit in this hot box, marking time until it was time to turn off the lights and say good night! Never was to the other location, near Castleton Mall… cant comment on it if was any betto… but if its like this locale… probably to visit VERY infrequently if ya can help it or very desperate for some music!

This record store closed at the 82nd street location. They are at there 54th street location now. They have a huge selection of CDs. Give them a shot. Here is their Myspace information on their current location:

i’m amazed that someone hasn’t written a review for vibes yet! it’s conviently located across for the castelton mall. they have just about every genre of music you could imagine. prices are comprable to other independent record stores in town. thier used section is HUGE and they always have some kind of deal if you buy mulitple used CDs. there’s lots of records to dig through as well.
