This cute little library maximizes the potential of its space. They’ve got a teen zone, very large kids area, multiple computers available and study nooks. However, physical space is limited and selection is lacking. Unfortunately there isn’t another branch of the Indianapolis public library close by. They offer many programs and classes, as boasted by the pamphlets at the door and multiply fliers on bulletin boards. Last time I was in the computers were almost all occupied(which is great to see!). However, none of the books, movies, CDs or audiobooks I looked for were in stock.

Wayne Branch Library is close to my heart and my favorite branch. We built a home a few miles from the branch while they were under construction. Both of my children went to Ben Davis schools so we were here often for research, picking up favorite books, donating books, children events, story time and meetings in the community room. I really appreciate the children’s area is separated by the central area with the adult section on the far side. I rarely have problems with over crowding or finding a comfortable seat to test drive a book. The staff is super friendly, so helpful and always up for questions regardless of how silly I think they are. After a couple visits they recognize you and find time to chat if you have time. The community room if I remember correctly has seating for 70 people. It’s always been a popular area and booked for all types of events. The small kitchen is nice for cleaning up after an event and has a small stove to reheat or keep foods warm. The community room does have a projection screen and white boards for business meetings.

Large community room with sink and small stove inside. Friendly, helpful staff. September 2013 a squeal-worthy Star Wars collection(from a patron) on display. Don’t get hit by the automatic door on your way out. It happened to me, I still have a bruise on my back. DON’T LETYOURCHILDRENPLAYWITHTHEDOORBUTTONS!!!

I go here to use the wifi at times and pick up some CDs. The Indianapolis library system is accessible online, so I recommend signing up and ordering what you want to your local branch, then all you need to do is pick it up and leave. It’s always quiet and usually there is a table or seat someplace to sit and work/read. When my Dad came here a several months ago two guys busted into a fist fight in the doorway region, weird but true. Hey, it’s the West Side, not always the best clientele.

I love that it’s close by, has a great kids section, and even take-home kids bags for when you are in a rush.
