Cash Only be prepared to pay up or walk to 7ELEVEN. We had seafood and shrimp Gumbo, Shrimp PoBoy, Cherry Kool-Aid(yeah!) I recommend this place, we drove all the way from San Diego and had to stop in again. End with an interesting Lemon Head frosted cake, seriously! How fun is that?

From the looks of it, I honestly don’t understand why people are giving Mama Pat’s an average name, but Mama Pat’s rocks! they literally make EVERYTHING fresh. until you order your food, is when they make it. the gumbo is awesome, and the tacos(especially the turkey ones) are to die for! if you want REAL gumbo, you need to go to Mama Pat’s. staff is friendly and extremely professional, the food is great, the place is small but cozy. My whole family(and we are about 300+ deep) and I come here at LEAST twice a week for food. and they also have a cart they use and go to different clubs around inglewood and serve gumbo, chili cheese hot links or even jambalaya! drooling thinking about it. this place. is for SURE! five stars!

a relative came down from corona craving the gumbo grille, so my husband and i took her there. we walked in at 825 and it was empty, and was told the grill was closed for the night. we explained to ron, the owner, that our relative had come a long way just to eat there, so he, even though his cook hadn’t shown up that day and he was about to close the shop, he offerred to cook us anything we ordered. we sampled the gumbo, which tasted pretty good, but ordered 6 tacos(2 chicken, turkey, and shrimp) and 2 chicken philly sandwhiches and 3 red kool-aids. ron chatted with us the whole time he cooked, allowed us to dine –in, even though he had been ready to go home and made a nice presentation when he served us, then recleaned the grill while we ate. kuddos to the gumbo grille! kuddos to ron the chef! the food was the bomb and we all cleaned our plates! we’ll all definitely be going back!

Twice the price of New Orleans, Half as Good! But still it’s Gumbo and Gumbo is hard to come by around here. After going to New Orleans in back in October I have been craving Gumbo and craw fish ever since. The gumbo could have been thicker and more salty for sure and I was disappointed they didn’t have craw fish but the food was still not bad and the people were great! Great Service, Great Atmosphere, Great People

I saw & heard about this place from a couple of my friends, so once I was in the neighborhood I finally stopped by. I got the med. gumbo plate which I think was like $ 16. It definitely hit the spot. I added a lil hot sause to it because I like my food really spicy. Regardless it is a very nice place. You can tell it just opened up but the employees were really nice & food taste great. I will definitely be going bk there again & telling some friends about their gumbo!

I don’t know why I keep listening to these 5 star posts! I mean they must be family or something… because this food was garbage. I’m sorry… but I have to be completely honest, I seriously don’t know how some of these places stay in business! I eat out ALOT… and I’m tired of being nice and not wanting to speak ill about restaurants, because I realize its hard work to run a business… but honestly these people aught to be ashamed! Taking peoples money and serving such dreadful food! Tisk Tisk! I know this feedback isn’t gonna help save the world… but i do feel like if I can save 1 person from the experience that I had… and from wasting their money then its all worth it! I spent about $ 50 in this joint and was extremely disappointed.(which is an understatement) I was craving seafood … a chicken salad and a steak sandwich(no I’m not pregnant) — and i checked Unilocal to see where I could go without driving all over the city. Found this spot where they serve gumbo! I thought to myself ‚…that’s even better! I haven’t had gumbo in a while… so I was excited to get off work and stop by this place on my way home. Also, since I missed lunch… i was beyond hungry. so I ordered gumbo, shrimp tacos, a philly steak, a chicken salad and some bbq wings.(hey don’t judge me) The chicken salad looked more like a taco salad! The chicken was ground up… i think it was ground turkey… and there were tortilla chips all around it … HUH?!? Who does that? The wings were drenched… I mean SATURATED in sauce! I mean… i like sauce but I wasn’t tryna save any for later. The philly sandwich… dry… overcooked … and i think the meat was actually steak-ums from the grocery store(which can be quite tasty if you do them right) the shrimp tacos were wet… grease was dripping out of the wrapping they were in! So much oil… the shells were soggy… but the gumbo took the cake… NOMEAT! How can this be gumbo! The pictures they have posted are a hoax! It was liquid over rice… with a sort of grainy consistency. Not cool! How can everything be horrible? Guess that’s what happens when you don’t look at your order before you leave! The smart thing would have been for me to take it back the next day… but once I got home… saw it… and then tasted it… it was a wrap! I was beyond irritated. and couldn’t even stand the site of the containers on my table! I wanted it OUT! Good bye turkey salad… goodbye dripping wings… goodbye mushy tacos… goodbye fake steak… goodbye meatless gumbo… and good riddance! The cold part about it is… after spending all that money. I actually had to go back out to get my son something different to eat… cause he took one look and was like… NOTHANKS! Damn… I suppose i need to start cooking!(probably not gonna happen) Feeling: TRULYDISGUSTED!

I wish my review could be similar to those already posted. However, my experience is different. My mom had a craving for good gumbo, so we searched the Internet and came upon this restaurant. After reading the reviews we were convinced we found the«best gumbo» in Los Angeles. Not so! Granted the place is really nice and clean. Everyone(the waitresses, servers and even the Chef) was extremely nice and professional. This was a welcome after driving 30 minutes from across town But, the seafood gumbo was horrible. Starting with… The smell. The gumbo had this strong fishy smell. Yes, I know this a seafood gumbo. But, the smell was from too much ground shrimp being added to the roux. Gumbo has other items(chicken, sausage, crab, shrimp, etc). No one item taste should overpower the entire dish. The look. I asked the waitress to put our rice on the side. Instead, she had the cook put the rice«inside» the gumbo. And to top this off, for $ 27 whatever seafood was inside apparently disintegrated as we could not make out any recognizable portions of chicken, crab or sausage.. The photos displayed(with seafood portions practically jumping out the bowl) for this gumbo is not the gumbo we got. These photos are misleading. Moreover, the Roux was entirely too thick, making the dish more liken to a rice goulash or porridge dish When we took it back. The waitress said the crab was there they just used lump crab from a can. And now I’m not a Gumbo expert — but isn’t the Roux supposed to be dark and rich looking. Not so, here. The Roux was very light and milk looking. Again, the photos posted are very misleading. The taste. Like I was eating a package of dried shrimp cooked in horrible tasting tapped water and old pots. And to top it off, they gave us(salty) saltine crackers because they ran out of their advertised garlic bread. I’m sorry. But, I am very upset. We did all this research to find the supposedly«best gumbo» possible. Drove almost 2 hours to get to this place and back — in the rain. Then, had to go and try and find someplace else to satisfy our gumbo craving. It was crazy, and I was upset. The up side to this. The Chef was still gracious asking us to explain why we didn’t like his gumbo. I couldn’t go into everything then, so I hope he reads this. He did give us our money back. Perhaps, I got a bad bowl of gumbo. Not sure. Perhaps, I might give them a chance again. Not sure. We ended up going to La Louisiana Restaurant in Windsor Hills off Overhill Blvd. And before ordering we asked for a sample this time. The Roux was fine and looked good. We ordered their one size gumbo which came with an crazy amount of sausages, chicken(drumlettes), blue crab(½ piece), and plenty of whole shrimp. Gumbo is supposed to be a rich tasty soup base with great fresh ingredients, at least I thought.

This place looks like it just opened. The interior is clean and intimate. While there aren’t that many tables and chairs(around 4 tables), it appears that most customers take their order to go. They do offer lunch specials such as $ 5 Burger with fries and $ 7.00 seafood gumbo. Of course I ordered the seafood gumbo since I’m at a gumbo place. The seafood gumbo was pretty hearty with plenty of sausages and crab legs. However, I would have preferred that the gumbo had a little thicker texture. The roux in the gumbo could be a tad more richer to accomplish this. While we were eating, customers were constantly coming in here and most of them were of African American descent so you know that’s a good sign. Finally, the people here are very friendly. They want you to have a good time and enjoy the food, which I appreciate. Overall, a good place to get your gumbo on when you are in the mood.

This placed used to be called the Gumbo Shack(I think) but was bought out and renamed Mama Pat’s Gumbo & Grill. Anywho, eating here was an interesting experience, we got here around 11:30/45 or so and found all the doors locked and we figured it was closed or out of business or something(even tho the sign said«OPEN» and the schedule showed they’re open from 11 am — 9 pm). So, as we were about to leave when I saw movement behind the shades and saw feet at the door and thought OK, they’re gonna open the door for us, but — there was no movement, so our token white guy yelled thru the glass asking if they’re open and then this black dood opens the door and just stares at us. So dood opens the door and on 1 side we have a 6’5 white dood, a 6’1270 lbs Korean dood and a Chinese fella and on the other side a black dood who’s just simply staring… like he saw a ghost. So, after sometime of awkward silence I ask, «Are you open?» and no response and then I asked if we could come in and eat and then he snaps out of it and said«Yah, we got some food, come on in!» LOL Anyway, we walk in and dood is friendly, non-stop chatting about how he made a fresh pot of gumbo this morning and such. Well, I ordered the Catfish Po’boy and seafood Gumbo and dood — I don’t know much about Cajun /Creole food but I do know that I’ve never seen so much King Crab legs stuffed into 1 bowl of soup in my life… and the Catfish Po’Boy was HUGE. I thought the Catfish was a tad bit under-seasoned tho but the soup was awright — anyway for a sall seafood gumbo and catfish sandwich was $ 17 and some change. Oh, this place has to be authentic, cause we were the ONLY non-African Americans to waltz thru that place…
