So far all I have gotten was the Nasi Goreng and the egg rolls and it’s delicious so I’m sure everything else is too. They have big portions so watch what you order if ordering for one

My wife and I stopped by here and ordered what ended up being enough food for an army(our portions were big)! The beef rendang and the tomyum soup are awesome! We also had a beef noodle dish and egg rolls which were good as well. The cashier was friendly and was a nice warm smiley person.

This is my go-to in LA for Malay food when I’m craving my mom’s home cooking. Definitely my kind of comfort food… Very authentic. Don’t expect a lot in terms of ambience, but that’s what makes hole-in-the-wall restaurants so charming!

We accidentally went in the employee entrance and got looked at bemusedly. The place is pretty hard to find; we drove right by it and had to U-turn into an alley to find the back door. It’s kind of cafeteria-like, with dim unappetizing-looking neon pictures on the wall, but as we all know, that has nothing to do with the taste of the food. If anything, it’s a good sign, because if people aren’t coming in for the décor, they’re probably coming in for the food. I ordered the mohinga, which I think is called something like ‘catfish rice noodles’ on the menu, goat curry, and a mango smoothie, staying securely in Burmese territory. The Malaysian offerings didn’t look as tempting to me. While neither dish was as nuanced as versions I’ve had at Burmese-focused sit-down full-service restaurants, both were solid, and the portions and prices were perfect! Usually I have leftovers and pay more than I’d like; here I was just barely full, my plate clean, and my wallet happy. The goat was slow-burn spicy and tender, the soup full-on fish sauce in the face. Yum!

I was offended really, as offended as a conservative American who has been told their gun rights will be taken away from them. As a Malaysian who has proudly eaten 6 meals a day of Malaysian food from the 13 states of Malaysia, I can certainly testify that this was absolutely foreign to me, I mean what did I even eat, faux Malaysian food? It lacks«oomph» — the quality of being mind blowing. Lets start with some useful information, firstly this is a «halal» burmese restaurant with faux Malaysian selection– just had to put it out there, for the next Malaysian who’s scouring authentic Malaysian food(since they have been starved of Malaysian selection since coming to the USA). It also primarily serves takeout and not a sit down one; yes they do have chairs and table if you do choose to dine in, but don’t expect a full dining service like at most restaurant, I mean even the menu is just a printed paper. Secondly, the food takes about 10 – 20 minutes to be prepared, therefore my advice to the diva who can’t wait, is to call the business 15 minutes ahead to place an order. Thirdly, this is hardly a market, unless you consider 3 racks of food goods a market. Parking here is street style, so carrying coins would be useful, or a credit card, because the parking meters accept card here. I order the $ 7.49 mee goreng shrimp(Malaysian fried noodles),$ 7.49 nasi goreng ayam(Malaysian fried rice), $ 5.99 ayam goreng(Malaysian fried chicken) and Murtabak $ 3.99. I think the most promising dish out of the four(4) selection I ordered was the nasi goreng, because it was tasty and had Malaysian-ish taste. Malaysian Nasi goreng(fried rice) is a pretty simple, but quite a delicious and satisfying dish. It takes a Chinese classic and spices it up a little bit. The magic of this Malaysian-style fried rice lies in the flavorful base, a spice paste of chiles, garlic and shallots. Despite being tasty, it still does not resemble the complexity of a Malaysian fried rice, nonetheless it was tasty. The most disappointing part of my meal was the fried chicken and fried noodles, because it was both bland and lacks flavor. The fried chicken was basically battered chicken without any seasoning. Malaysian fried chicken is usually very flavorful and aromatic, because spices and fresh ground roots-such as lemongrass, galangal, shallots are used, but here they just decided to serve a gamey piece of fried chicken that lacks any flavor whatsoever. While the mee goreng was really bland chow mein here. For me, enjoying a warm bowl of Mee Goreng is nostalgic, I am taken down memory lane. During my childhood, the rickety Mee Goreng pushcarts would comb the neighborhood selling cooked noodles wrapped in small banana bundles. Each bite was sensational — a memory I’ll never forget. It is a perfect balance of salty, spicy and dry(not in a sauce), tossed with cabbage and potatoes and egg and other thing. The huge ‘issue’ is that the mee goreng here did not conjure any nostalgic memories, because it was not mee goreng at all. The great thing about this place is the portion, its very generous and the service is friendly. But when a restaurant promises Malaysian dishes, or presents its menu with Malaysian dishes, I expect it to be tasting like one, not like a faux version of it.

Worst worst customer service experience I have ever received. I used to always go here because the food isn’t too bad; however, the waiter aka the only waiter there is super rude and obnoxious. So my family and I went here for a special occasion. We ordered food and then decided to get something else off the menu. When I told the guy, he rudely said its going to take 20 – 30 mins. I didn’t complain because he was just like that and I was used to it. I then politely asked if I could get some water. He again rudely said go get it yourself it’s there. I mean seriously. After we got our food, he comes up to my friend and says what’s up, what’s wrong. He almost looks like he’s going to start fighting with him. This is when I got really angry. Like are you kidding me. What kind of a business are you running? We didn’t say anything to you even though you were being so rude and then again you pull something like this. I have a very extended family and since this is one of the«famous» restaurants in our area, we always go there. My extended family and I are never stepping foot in this restaurant again. I hope that guy learns some manners!

The food is fine there but when the soup arrived, it was cold. We were served with other items but there was a delay with our drinks and the bread. We asked for both. The waiter came with the drinks but the bread was not there … Our curry was getting cold and we needed the bread to eat with the curry. Upon asking about the bread, the waiter who is the owner, passed a sarcastic comment that we were asking for both and what could he do about it? Basically, his attitude was rude and lacked customer service. The problem is that the owner is doing the work of the cashier and the waiter too. Whatever his issue is of not hiring help, but he needs to improve his overall attitude. I also feel that his attitude is generally bad with people from his own community. Good restaurant must have good owners who understand the concept of customer service. It’s not the customer’s fault if the owner(who also serves as the waiter and cashier) is overwhelmed and feels that he is always right. On a previous experience, we noticed the chicken was not so fresh and had a stale smell to it. We informed the owner who adamantly denied it, and specifically stated that most likely me and my 8 guests had something wrong with our tastebuds and our noses !!! I wouldn’t go again because of the owner’s egoistic attitude. And for those who are wondering why we decided to go again after the prior experience… Well we thought that it may have been a one time incident and wanted to give this place a second chance.

It’s like the only halal type of its restaurants around here, so I’m a fan. The Née and Mee Goreng rice/noodle dishes are always what I get. It’s cheap and filling if you’re on the run in the area. I still need to find another good dish to add some more protein the the Née/Mee Goreng, so I’ll be back to look for those.

I was expecting authentic Malaysian food. Instead we got cheap Chinese food. If you’re expecting cheap Chinese, this place is ok. Otherwise you’ll be disappointed like I was. We won’t be coming back.

If you’re a Bangladeshi & craving deshi style halal Thai/Chinese food, don’t waste time. After searching for few years, this is far by the best restaurant I got. I’d give more stars if possible & I’m not their friend or family member(I’ve got tons of other reviews). If you’re not from Bangladesh, this place is a hidden gem for South Asia style foods They’ve got special noodle soup only on Saturday & Sunday. It’s probably similar to laksa. It’s amazing! Their chicken roll was crispy & made with fresh oil. Fried chicken goes ‘out of this world’ with either fried rice or any one of the Nasi Goreng(Malaysian style fried rice). Tom Yum is probably close to Bangladeshi style Thai clear soup & it was a bomb! Beef rendang was a new dish that I tried & I liked the lemon grass flavor in it. My wife loved their Me Goreng(Malaysian style chow mein) I went back there twice already & I don’t know how many times I’m going back there! Shokor Al Hamdulillah for the Halal food.

My sisters birthday dinner choice and it was so delicious, I woke up the next day and wanted more. Beef soup, chicken tikki, nari shrimp and the naan is the best. My sis is very picky with her taste of food but this place had her speechless…

I love this place. Their food is fresh and good taste. I love thier chicken biryani. Also, Malaysian noodles can not be forgotten. Prices are fair than most restaurants. They also make your food spicier if you ask. Over all this is my place when my family decides not to cook at home!!!

I came here for lunch on a Friday and the place was completely empty. I wasn’t too worried because fellow Unilocalers Emily S and Nick H gave this place a good rating. I was in Malaysia earlier this year and felt a hankering for their food. Here’s the order: Samosas — pretty standard but I liked the sauce it came with. Mee goreng with shrimp noodles with homemade sauce, cabbage, bell pepper and green onion — my favorite dish! We ordered it with shrimp and they were nice and plump. Ikan masam manis(malaysian style sweet sour sauce w/deep fried fish and pineapple) — the fried fish they used was tilapia, the size was a little on the small side but the four of us managed. Even though it was covered in sauce you can tell it was just fried because it still had the crunch factor. Bok choy garlic with dried shrimp — simple veggies we needed and I liked the saltiness from the dried shrimp. We also ordered a beef dish, I don’t remember the name because the guy who took our order recommended it. The sauce was similar to the fried fish. The beef was thinly sliced and not overcooked. All of us also ordered a mango lassi to drink and it was good. It wasn’t too sweet and I liked that. The guy working there was very nice and helpful. We asked him for change since there are only metered spots outside. He gave us $ 1.75 in change on the house! Very sweet of him and we did add more to our tip because of that. I think we paid $ 12 each including tax and tip. I thought that was a good deal with all of the food we ate. I need to come back and order from their Indian food menu.

Came here during lunch with a co-worker of mine. I found this place because of Unilocal.I wanted to try something new. And, go to a place where I’ve never been before. Mutiara is a Burmese/Malaysian restaurant. Although, to me it seemed like an Indian restaurant. Anyway, we got there around 11ish when the place opened up. It was pretty empty. We were the only ones there. Mutiara offers lunch specials. So, I ordered the Chicken Curry Lunch Special which came with curry chicken, rice, naan, some kind of veggie, and some kind of salad. Definitely a good choice. The meal was perfect. Not too spicy. Not too mild. Another plus, they brought us a whole canteen of water for us to refill our cups ourselves. My only complaint, it took forever for our meals to come. They apologized when they brought us our food, and stated it was because they make their meals fresh, from scratch when people order them. Not a problem. Next time I go here, I’ll probably order for takeout. Parking: There’s metered parking in front. Don’t worry if you don’t have coins. It’s one of those fancy meters which take credit cards.
