It was second Saturday in the month of July year 2015. There was a purpose to be here, breathe here and be moved here. We actually weren’t sure if this public beach was the correct place to be even though my HB triple checked with his brother the day before! You see my HB was here so many years ago probably at least forty to fifty years ago but bc times have changed he said they literally walked to this point. The story was that my HB and his fam had come to this beach to fish and play when they were kids. Fast forward to present times my HB’s mission was to fish plus have a memorial service bc both of his parents had died and gone to heaven. It’s important you notice it is the month of July bc even though both my HB’s and his youngest sister’s birthdays are in this month both of his parents had died in this month just two days apart as well as thirteen years apart. You see my HB has always been the black sheep of his fam. He was never close to his mama for the beginning years of our marriage but once my Dad passed on over fifteen years ago I encouraged him to be with his mother despite the criticism, the harsh words she had for him. I think what turned the corner for all of us was our Japan trip we travelled there the year 9 – 11 occurred momentous for USA as well as for us. I went there with my HB, daughter AND mother-in-law!!! I know who travels with their MIL??? Well we were bringing Dad’s ashes to Japan who had just died the year before. I did get a lecture from my MIL about taking baths at night but I understood I needed to be respectful of their fam whose home we were staying at. After that trip our family was a bit closer and my HB made it a purpose to get along with his Mom. Actually he was there for her almost daily especially during the last year of her life while the cancer had literally taken over. It wasn’t easy for this family but even though my MIL expressed she was like an outcast growing up through the years you can see the Love given back to her through her children and grandkids. I was so proud of my HB’s love toward his mom that it had literally taken a 180! Okay back to being on this beach we figured out we were at the right place after my HB’s siblings and fam showed up. My HB hit the beach immediately to fish while I hung out with my SIL who also works in the lab. We chatted & watched the guys fish. All three had caught fish even though they weren’t huge but it was a fun way for them to spend the day! And my HB finally was getting his mojo!!! We finally went back to the cars to tailgate our party. It was awesome as stories were exchanged about my HB’s family. Bc my SIL’s bday was in two days they had brought champagne cake from Freeport Bakery. That made for an amazing dessert!!! After lunch on this gorgeous sunny day on the beach we went back out to the beach to perform my MIL’s memorial service. My HB expressed to me later he got bleary-eyed throwing Mom’s ashes in the ocean. I was super proud of him as he was the one who got to do it after all those years he had his ups and downs with his Mom but better himself at the end bc they became close. It was a successful trip and memorable for everyone!!!
