Oh man, the Mac and Cheese… I’ll be brief in this review as there is only one thing you need to know: You have not truly experienced all that life has to offer until you have allowed yourself to consume an entire bowl of their Buffalo Chicken Mac. They offer a great deal on Mondays, definitely check them out.

Fresh, quick and delicious. A favorite lunch spot. They will customize your order to please even the pickiest eater. Don’t be turned off by the line, they crank out food quickly and it’s totally worth a little wait!

Spicy peanut is the way to go! Got that in a combo with the Greek salad. Very filling at a reasonable price. Perfect for lunch or dinner. I often get my orders completed pretty quickly.

Food is OK. Nothing to write home about. I would suggest not getting anything with meat in it because their meat is low quality. Their macaroni is pretty decent though. Pretty much noodles and company with a different name.

I got food poisoning from ordering chicken and Teriyaki rice. What do you expect from students who don’t care, cooking your food. Never going back. It’s basically Noodles & Company but with lower quality of food. The chicken didn’t even seem fully cooked to me, and there was an overwhelming amount of cooking oil in my bowl. Thanks for getting me sick before my 3 hour trip to see family Z’Mariks.

Great product, reasonably priced. Similar to noodles and company but more local. I had the pad thai, my s. o had the macaroni, but it seemed too greasy for him. I loved my pad thai and it was made just right. Very quick and fresh. Do not order the macaroni and cheese unless u can handle super rich greasy noodles. They give you large portions too!

Z’marika is an up and coming noodle etc chain that capitalizes on healthy fast food options in their menu. Its located in the pedestrian mall area so a nice location for students and families to get a quick bite of healthy food. I went there for a quick lunch. I had their Thai style noodles and it was okay. Seriously there is nothing special about their noodles, sauce or ingredients. Of course they make it fresh very quickly and it is a healthier option then going to other fast food places but there is definitely a stiff competition in this market with Oasis, chipotle etc offering great fast food options which taste good too. Its nothing special here, you might be better off eating something else unless you are looking for noodles and know how to tweak the taste to your liking.

I ordered the z’lemon sauté. The lemon cream sauce was very tasty and not overwhelmingly lemony. It had a hearty amount of cheese and was piping hot when it came to our table, though I do wish it had had more broccoli and the dish was a little too oily and gave me a stomach ache. The seating area was a little more run down than I was expecting but with the quantity of people eating here on a daily basis, I suppose that’s to be expected. Due to the mainstream branding of their window decals and menu presentation, it’s pretty clear that Z’mariks is a franchise(they have several locations throughout Iowa), but it’s definitely worlds better than other big-name noodle franchises out there.

Pros: 1. Cozy little restaurant with good seating options. 2. The food is fresh and made quickly. Particularly good for lunch. 3. Lots of options, including vegetarian options and can turn any vegetarian dish meaty for a bit more money. I really enjoyed the orzo pasta in my dish, different than many pasta places. 4. Two sizes, small and regular. The regular is quite big too, definitely for those that are hungry. Cons: 1. A bit greasy/oily. If that is a problem for your stomach, may want to steer clear.

This place is horrible. It’s just a copy company of noodles. I went here and the selections are very minimal, the staff was not responsive and rude and there was no ice in the soda machine. 4 of the soda choices were also empty and they wouldn’t refund my money of the purchased drink. The food was okay, but the chicken was extremely fake and sponge-like and when my friend and I returned home, we both ended up with food poisoning. If you’re looking for a noodle place that’s semi-fast just stick to Noodles Co. This restaurant is a mistake.

This place is pretty good. Way better than Noodles N Company for sure. I get the Spicy Peanut noodle and switch out the noodles for Udon noodles. However on my last trip there, my order to go had mushrooms in it. Why? I have no clue. I’d prefer paying for what I ordered, esp because this is dangerous food preparation that would really hurt someone with an allergy.

As a self-proclaimed Mac n Cheese connoisseur, Z’Mariks gets two thumbs up from me. The worst part about this place was having to choose between the 4 varieties of mac n cheese! I ended up going with the buffalo chicken mac and was pretty pleased. Very cheesy and just the right amount of buffalo made it hard to resist. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be back in Iowa City anytime soon, but if you are traveling through or just looking for a quick/cheap/delicious meal… this is the place!

I love this place! During the school year I would always pop in for a Scotch-a-roo! The staff is very friendly and personable, I feel comfortable going to Z’Mariks with a big group or just by myself!

Nice and clean inside like other noodle places. And there service was friendly and prompt, at least on a slow day. I agree with the spicy peanut being really tasty. I disagree with saying it needs more sauce, I think it’s just right. I added shrimp, which was good, although they didn’t exactly load it up. All-in-all it was pretty good. I don’t think I’ll ever crave it, but I would definitely not hesitate to go back to mix it up a little bit.

This place is awesome, noodle or rice bowls made to your liking and bottled local beer to boot. Also super affordable, for $ 15 I had 2 beers and a large bowl of noodles w/chicken. The food exceeded my expectations, chicken freshly grilled, herbs nice and chilled, noodles perfectly cooked. So good I just signed up with Unilocal to leave this review, a special thanks to Unilocal for helping me find this place!!!

Pretty average noodle place that is basically a local version of Noodles and Company. Not a lot of flavor.

I just love this place. I’m an IC native and would choose this place over«Noodles» crap any day! Alex, my normal cashier, is just awesome. He’s so friendly and personable, really wants to make sure you are enjoying your food and time there. The staff is prompt at taking orders and getting your food out to you. It’s so affordable, except to add in protein, and the portions are huge! Def get your money’s worth. My favorites are the teriyaki rice bowl and the basil pesto

If you get hankering for some really tasty pasta without wanting to spend $ 15-$ 18 on a dish in a less casual atmosphere, Z’Mariks is the answer. Located in the heart of downtown Iowa City, this spot offers delicious pasta and salad options with extras available to add to your liking. Not only is it affordable, but the service was fantastic(I had a gentleman with shorter hair and glasses who was super helpful) and the atmosphere was mad chill. Next time you’re too lazy to chef up some Mac n’ Cheese — let the rad crew over at Z’Mariks do it for you.

Basic, reliable, and mostly the same from time to time. Great for a warm lunch on a cold day. Had marinara with chicken and broccoli last night, very nice.

If a man gave me the opportunity to spend a night of wonderful, consensual passion with Ryan Gosling, or to have a bowl of the Buffalo Chicken Mac with meatballs here, I’d probably choose the Buffalo Chicken Mac. In fact, I’d choose the Buffalo Chicken Mac 10 out of 10 awkward encounters with strangers involving noodle restaurants and Ryan Gosling.
