Located next to Zion Market, Ginzaya is a fairly average sushi bar. The happy hour prices are actually half price and there is a good selection of rolls. Prices seem rather high for non happy hour menu items. I found their rice to be somewhat un-flavorful and dry. They got a couple of our orders wrong. This is not the place to go if you are looking for an entertaining fun night out. The sushi chefs are kind of cold, aloof, and lack the usual cheerfulness you find in most sushi bars. Like their rice they too are kind of on the dry side. But on the other hand the happy hour prices are good for average sushi.

Service is probably the worse I’ve ever seen. Perpetually rude and unfriendly. The food is very subpar on top of all of it. Don’t waste your time and money here.

they redesigned their menus, with new happy hour system! Happy hours are now all day long, 7 days a week! its a sushi bar with live fish tank(definitely something that kids would love to look at), so you can get live items too if you want! I definitely think its worth the price. will come back soon!

We quite nearly didn’t come over here after reading several bad reviews, but as it turns out, they have good sushi(not amazing, but definitely good) and solid service. Mango roll was tasty, but sort of fell apart and was a bit difficult to eat. Ginzaya roll is good, but too messy for our taste. Worth a try though — it has some zing. Philly is exactly what you’d expect. An Americanized sushi roll done right. Crunch roll also really good. They also have one of the better vegetable tempura we’ve tried, and we get it every time.

Came in for Valentine’s Day because we saw it wasn’t so busy inside and when we went in we weren’t even greeted by the waitress. Stood in the front door for nearly 7 mins and stood lookin at the menu. There were about 2 tables free and still the woman didn’t even greet us. She went from table to table then to her register. We left and went to DooRe Korean restaurant inside which the man greeted us right away and seated us despite it being really busy on Valentine’s. I say go to DooRe restaurant instead of this sushi place

I see many posts here and I guess it’s the time for me to write a review for my favorite restaurant. Yes I know they have recently changed their menus and some more. But what’s the big of a difference? The price changed, of course it should be as the minimum wage had been changed since this year. The rolls? All are same it’s just that few are gone. There is absolutely no change in its taste nor their services. And for the freshness of the fish, I saw some custumers complaining about the fish but the exactly same fish was sent to another table and yet they were satisfied with it. I overheard from a server that un often times, this happens. I’m not trying to be sarcastic here but really, it maybe just how your tongue tasted the food. Also they have happy hour which you get your every 2nd ones half off. For the rolls you get the hh price everyday anytime, and the sushi, beers, from sun-thurs 5pm-7pm. In where other places can you find the where they have hh everyday? It’s definitely a good deal. You guys really should try sometime. :)

Sushi restaurant next to Zion market. Would really like the tight knit homey feel you get at sushi places but instead there’s a lot of things written in Korean all over. Came here for dinner on a weekday and it was relatively slow. Only a couple parties were dining in, all of them having a(loud) family/friend dinner. I originally had a groupon and the ease of using it was flawless. Wasn’t treated any different. Service was quite slow though as there were 2 ladies but only 1 was tending to all 3 tables. Took a while to place my order in and to get my check. My friend and I ordered a couple rolls, in which they were all satisfactory. The mango roll with cream cheese was an interesting combination but fell apart when we picked it up. I can’t really recommend which rolls to get because they all just tasted the same for me. If you’re looking for a real good sushi dinner, I suggest going somewhere else or if you’re looking for a quick sushi fix, head to a revolving sushi. I can see those that work in this plaza frequenting this restaurant as a lunch time break, but not an actual spot where people drive to get lunch at.

If your looking for a place to eat sushi, you definitely need to check out Ginzaya. This restaurant serves the best sushi. The fish there are really fresh and tasty. Chef James is really friendly and nice and his food is extremely good. If you want more than just sushi, you definitely need to try Sea Urchin Egg Rice. The size of the sea urchin is really big and the eggs in there are really good. So make sure to check out Ginzaya! You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been occasionally coming here since 2009 for their lunch special combos and dining here today made me realize they really have gone downhill in quality and quantity. It’s almost like they just don’t care anymore. The ambiance and place is starting to look more run down and shack-like more than ever. Dine-in and to-go service isn’t bad, but it can get slow from time to time even when they aren’t busy. The food portion is pretty small per combo and each lunch special I order goes for around $ 11+tax. You used to be able to choose a fish and meat back when I used to order salmon and beef teriyaki. Now it’s only one meat choice, which I ordered salmon, with one mini fried dumpling which is literally the size of a toothpick. It was hard to believe they had decided to replace a second meat choice with a tiny dumpling. Taste-wise everything is pretty bland and simple. Even their sauce is something you could probably make or purchase at the grocery store next door. When the food got bad, it was BAD. The beef teriyaki would be so chewy you couldn’t chew it apart or they would give you only pieces with tons of veins running through them, not to mention sometimes they’d basically just give you fat with a side of meat. When the salmon wasn’t good, it would have a strong fish smell much like it was expired or rotting and would have a very mushy consistency so I couldn’t eat it. Every time I dine-in or order to-go these days I am disappointed. The salmon pieces even back in 2009 used to range in size and were never the same size which is what you would expect from any restaurant. Sometimes my salmon would come out cooked to be as small as the size of a credit card and thin which was pretty unbelievable. I never sent food back, which I should have, since I knew a few waitresses there and didn’t want to start any trouble. I would comment on the food after my meal hoping they or the management would get the hint, but to no avail. I would say before it didn’t seem so bad, but as it kept gradually getting worse I tried to keep liking this place and visited each time hoping maybe something good would happen. It hasn’t. You won’t see me and my friends at Ginzaya anymore unless things really change. Or maybe a new restaurant will come in to replace this one.

Ginzaya used to be considered bottom-of-the-barrel for us, but to its credit its gotten a lot better in comparison to even two years ago. We used to joke about coming here before deciding on a more respectable place outside of Irvine, but its seriously upped its sushi game to become fairly edible at a decent price. Unfortunately, its only regressed in terms of its bento and cooked dishes. Many of its cooked dishes are much overpriced, and you can find much better options nearby at American restaurants. Still, Ginzaya has the cheap-sushi market locked down for people not willing to drive a few additional minutes. Their cheap rolls, usually considered disgraceful to be served in more serious sushi bars, are actually quite good. Their salmon-skin, surprisingly decent. Escolar(for some reason, they call their Escolar Ono here,) poor, but you won’t find many places selling it as it isn’t a traditional Japanese fish. They only have two rolls that include the fish, but I forgot what it was called. In addition, you might want to be careful about eating too much as it does have undesirable side effects. Still, we came to Ginzaya specifically because my friend has a love for the fish. Soft as butter, fatty, and delicious, Ginzaya’s escolar was the worst I’ve ever had, but still tasted pretty good. Serious warning though, don’t eat too much of it, and don’t read up on the side effects before eating it. On the other hand, their Sea Bass was ill prepared, their bentos seem haphazardly thrown together, and servers don’t seem to understand more complex instructions in English. Still, for a Korean sushi place that used to be a laughingstock, Ginzaya has dramatically improved, and that’s always great to see in a restaurant. Escolar: 0⁄5(still tastes pretty good, but a 0 on my scale is supermarket quality, and I try to stay consistent even if it isn’t always sold at supermarkets) Note: I’ve bought it a few times at 99 Ranch, so I’m basing my scale off of that. Salmon Skin: 2⁄5 Roll Prep: 1⁄5 Sea Bass: 0⁄5 Miso Soup: 0⁄5 Chicken: 0⁄5 Bento: 0⁄5 Service: 1⁄5(friendly, but messed up our order) Diversity: 4⁄5 Price: $$/$$$$ Satisfaction:Price– 2⁄5

I ordered nabiyaki udon and it was salty, overlooked, and way too too much stuff. You couldn’t find the noodles because the small bowl was filled with everything in the kitchen. Less is more, people. Why did they give me a spoon because all the liquid was gone from the chicken, runny egg, zucchini, mushrooms, more chicken, carrots, etc… It was not good and presentation was thumbs down. And one measly shrimp??? Shane on you for calling this udon. I’m only giving it 2stars because the California roll was fine.

Definitely not a place to get Sashimi or Sushi~ Even Korean style fresh Sashimi quality was bad and seems like they don’t even care. Side dishes were even worse. Paid $ 100 for 2 to get bad quality Sashimi

Pretty good for cheap sushi, but their shabu soup was delicious. We ordered the large bowl which was more than enough for us. It’s located right next to Zion Market which means parking is big and wasn’t a hassle. The waitress’ are kind, and even though they were busy the night we came, they still manage to be attentive to us when we requested. Since I’m allergic to shellfish, the chief was able to make accommodations for our sushi rolls. Sadly, if your looking for high quality fresh fish its not here. For an average sushi joint, you get 3 stars Glen Coco!

Served with a genuine smile and a mountain of flavor, dishes here are a treat worthy of your attention. We had the machu Picchu roll, unagi, and big daddy roll and all were wonderful. The 3 shot sampler of sake made for a very nice compliment. Go Ginzaya!

First let me say. Sushi Boom is much bettet but not open on Sunday… The servers acted like they didnt want customers. .I was not impressed with the menu nor with the food… i had a combo. salad, miso and chicken katsu with horrible bbq sauce and sashimi. My friend and wife had rolls that were decent. We will not be back on sundays we will deal with the line at Honda Ya.

3.5 stars for good sushi at fair prices. It could be 4 stars but there have been too many times — whether eating in or getting food to go — where the service is woefully slow. You may not be wowed by Ginzaya and it’s not going to be the most memorable sushi you’ve ever eaten, but the fish is fresh and usually fatty enough to offer some of the melt in your mouth flavor you’re looking for. Ginzaya has a nice selection of rolls too. For those of you who like salmon, the Sun-Set Roll is a winner — basically a crunch roll with salmon on top. The John’s Roll is a nice change of pace — a Cal roll with fried eel and spicy tuna on top. If you want something sweet for dessert, Yogurtland is on the other side of the same shopping center or you can go to Zion Market for Korean goodies.

We came back again to try the dinner sashimi special medium size. The difference between the small and medium is about 10 slices of fish. Medium size also came with a lot more side/complimentary dishes. Besides the new ones I posted with the medium size sashimi special, there were also salad, the rice soup, the steamed egg and the clams and raw calamari from last time. The rice soup was excellent even our daughter loves it. *Side note, I’m not sure why there are complimentary dishes? They just do it. It was definitely plenty of food. Definitely made it bang for the buck! Just when we are almost to the fullness, the waitress brought out a blanched calamari over spicy sauce. I was too preoccupied with our daughter that I forgot to take picture for that. Overall, their sashimi is definitely top quality. We did try their shabu shabu and it’s very generous portion for the price. However, my husband and I just prefer their sashimi dinner more over shabu shabu.

Korean owned Japanese restaurant… but all things were good. Rolls are pretty creative and yum, huge slices of sashimi and they were pretty fresh too — except uni, it’s either the uni was too salty or the seaweed… meh — wish their happy hour could be extended though and they didn’t come and ask us for ‘last order’ before happy hour ends! would go back.
