Mango Chiffon Cake. Get it. Super light and fluffy, flavor of mango, the cream is so good it is whipped light and airy(not like crappy american icing that’s just whipped up sugar). My only quip with this shop is that the slices are TINY for the price — in NYC they’re much more generous and a bit cheaper. I’d probably go for ordering the full sized cake int he future.

Service is a 10 and the well known filipino chain name just sells it all. Ube cake is always a great choice. The counter makes the process quick and easy.

I was searching for dessert to bring to a party and everyone was raving about RRB’s mango cake. I bought a slice to try($ 2). Unfortunately, I wasn’t wowed by this cake at all. The cake itself tasted like a plain vanilla sponge cake. The mango seemed to be added only to the custard/cream. The only time I tasted the mango was when there was a concentration of mango in the cream. I had more bites with just a wisp of mango flavor, not enough to know it was mango if I didn’t know it was mango beforehand. If you’re looking for mango cake with a strong mango flavor, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for an «essence of mango» cake, RRB’s got you covered.

This is just a review going from their empanadas. I didn’t try any of their desserts yet. We were at Seafood city for lunch and my Aunt told my other Aunt that the empanadas here were good so she got about five each of the beef and chicken empanadas. First of all we had to wait fifteen minuets for these things and they turned out horrible. I tried the beef empanada first. The crust was kinda thick and crunchy. I don’t know if it was the crust or the stuffing but something was sweet, which was really weird. A sweet empanada, like what even. The beef inside wasn’t exactly ground beef, but it wasn’t chuck beef either, I didn’t know what it was. All I knew was that it didn’t taste good. The sweetness just overpowered everything. I gave up on the beef and tried the chicken thinking it might be better. The sweetness was once again there and the chicken was canned chicken, almost like tuna, really gross. Do not get the empanadas here, unless you want a sweet and probably very processed one.

The short of it: — Filipino bakery — located inside Seafood City Market — cakes, desserts, empanadas — decent prices — Favs: mango cake The long of it: This is your large Filipino bakery chain where you will find the basics like mango cake, ube cake, ensaïmadas, empanadas, and more. I think they are best known for their mango cake, which is a sponge cake with a very light whipped mango cream. It’s not very sweet and its one of my favorite items here. Although when I think about it, its probably not the best mango cake I’ve had, if you want more mango flavor I would probably suggest getting one of 85 degree bakery’s mango cakes instead. However, I grew up with Red Ribbon’s mango cake so it’s really just nostalgic for me. Everything else here is just ok. Nothing mind blowing about this bakery, just pretty standard Flilipino bakery. I would have to say that another favorite of mine is the Sansrival cake, which is a butter, meringue and cashew cake. It’s very unique and just so buttery, but delicious. One gripe I have about this place is quality control. I got a mango cake but the staff just briefly flashed it to me before check out. I really should have inspected it better. The writing I had put on the cake was messy to say the least and the whipped cream design on the cake was lopsided. Not good. I had to go home and fix it up with my own decorating skills. Sigh.

5 stars for their mango cake. I LOVE their mango cake. It has the right amount of sweetness and the cream they use is delicious. It is legit. I’m tempted to try their ube cake, but I always end up with the mango cake. One day… Oh, tried their banana bread and it’s pretty tasty. Definitely can taste and see that butteriness.

You will find this gem located inside of Seafood City. Being a true Filipino you have to know about Red Ribbon. There are not too many Filipino bakeries around so I am pretty stoked this is just miles away from my house. Some of my favorites include: Chicken empanadas Cheese ensaimada Sansrival cake(butter cake) yummy!!! Mango cake Ube Rolls Pretty much everything. It’s a tiny shop compared to the one in Cerritos but it is awesome to have the very first one in Irvine! They’re prices are affordable and all and all the service is great! Food court area is pretty small, so have some patience or you can always grab it and take it home and pig out :-)
