Spear America

Just found about this shop. Went in and spoke with Scott. I had a lot of questions, so talk about knowledgeable and patient. This guy and this shop are awesome — so I ordered a nice Mori shaft!!!
Prices are right inline w/​online — SO DO BUSINESS LOCALLY!!!

My boyfriend had all his spearfishing gear stolen and was in the market for a whole new setup. He heard that spear America and Petros had all the proper gear and fantastic customer service. We weren’t let down, all our expectation were surpass, Petros was very knowledgable and always available to help. Thank you Spear America and Petros!!!

Could not believe my eyes when I got to this place, they really do have everything! Awesome staff and amazing selection. I have very little experience with buying dive gear and these guys took me under their wing like a group of friends helping out their buddy. I scored a killer setup at an affordable price, I can’t wait to go back and talk story with these cool cats and expand my knowledge of the sport. Definitely THE place to go if you need ANY equipment or info on free diving and spear fishing!

This place is a toy store for the waterman. The only bad thing I have to say is I didn’t have enough money to buy one of everything.

I’ve been here probably 15 times over the last year, and every experience has been a positive one. You get straight answers from experienced divers. Prices are fair and can’t even be beat by Amazon or online retailers. If you go here, you’ll save a lot of time and money because Petros and Scott find you the best, most efficient tools for spearfishing in your price range. Period.

Spearfishing for me started as something to do when I wanted to go in the ocean but there weren’t any waves to surf. After learning more about the sport and visiting this store, I can safely say that it has become as important to me as surfing. Now, instead of cursing the ocean for its calmness, I greet it with arms wide open. Yesterday, after seeing and hearing about yellowtail nearby, I stopped by the shop and told Petros that I wanted a gun that would land me some tail, but as a broke grad student, I wanted the most functional, yet cheapest gun I could get that would still get the job done. Needless to say, Petros delivered. I bought a gun yesterday, and landed my first yellow today. It was awesome. Within two hours of spearing the fish, I was mixing her with avocado, green onion, sesame oil, etc. as poke. Damn it was good. Now all I want to do is spear more so I can eat like a champ but still be broke. Mahalo Petros

Great selection of spearfishing gear and wetsuits (says my husband). One of the best selections for a walk in store that we have found.
Also, I LOVED the little women’s section in the front of the store. It’s like a little waiting area for the fisherman wives while their men geek out on gear.

Walked in today for the first time and walked out a now, life long customer! I was very pleased! Harris? Or Harry as another customer called him, was very nice. He was with another customer when my friends and I walked in. He pointed them in the right direction and I went straight for the guns. He was able to sell me on a Pathos carbon 120 which I have been in the market for, for sometime now. He answered all my questions to the Tee. Harris also rigged up two of my buddies with stringers which they were in dire need of, in record time.
I will definitely be back! Thanks again!

I went into Spear America with a few members of my dive club the other day, and we were surprised by all the gear they had. They had everything from roller kits, carbon/​fiber fins, to handmade guns. They had an amazing selection of wetsuits as well. We came in for some rigging gear and some other parts which they were quick to find. Their prices are also quite affordable compared to the monopoly of diveshops in the local area. Very friendly staff. Truly a pleasant and refreshing experience. Thanks guys.

This shop is for anyone interested in the world of freediving and spearfishing.
The owner, Petros, has dedicated years of his life to develop a professional dive shop specific to apnea/​free/​skin divers in the Southern California area.
This is not the cheapest hobby to get into, but Petros does stock a wide variety of gear; from entry level items, all the way up to the top-​of-​the-​line technical gear. Speaking from experience, Petros offers a fair price for the items he sells. His prices are remarkably lower than other dive shops in the area.
The staff is also knowledgeable about the sport of spear fishing. Every time I chat with Scott (one of the main staff members), I leave with some new information about what gear to use, or what fish to look out for, etc etc. Great people.
I recommend this shop over any other local dive shop in the area, even if you are just a little bit interested in freediving and/​or spearfishing. This is by far the best hobby I have invested in, and also the most addicting. Plus, once you start progressing in the sport, you’ll begin to bring home fresh fish for dinner for you and your loved ones.
Final note: I recommend starting with a decent open cell dive suit and a weight belt. If you are warm/​comfortable in the water, you will enjoy your time diving exponentially more. If you want to learn how to properly dive, take a «Fii Free Diving Course» to learn the fundamentals and safety of the sport (I took my course led by Jeremy Caulkins)

I love the people that work here. Beautiful new store! They have a HUGE selection of products from beginner basic gear to top of the line pro equipment.

Went in today to buy a suit for my boyfriend, like all the other post this place is awesome! They have great selection, which I can only imagine the damage it could do to someone’s wallet. The staff is great very knowledgable about the products they carry, and great with customer service. They took the time to show me all the suits they had on hand and walked me through the pros and cons of each suit. I ended up buying the original suit I went there for (riffe digiTek)

Best place to get all of your gear, Petros is an awesome guy who has a huge passion for the sport. The only downside is that he has so much cool stuff you’ll want to spend all of your money here haha!

Whenever I walk into Spear America I feel like a little kid in a toy store. It’s like a spearo’s paradise with all the abundant amounts of high quality gear. You can find anything from diving socks to carbon fins to some of the best spearguns you can buy. I’ve known Petros, one of the owners, for a while now and he never fails to be helpful with any questions regarding gear or any about the sport. He is a standup guy who is a pleasure to do business with, and I always find myself walking out of the shop with really good deals. The shop is dope to say the least and definitely worth your time to check out.
