Tonight I ordered 2 meals to go, it was $ 25 plus tip. My order was 2 cheese enchiladas crispy asada taco and beans. Well I got about 2 tablespoons of beans if that… the food was cold, I got a soft taco not a Crispy taco. By the time my husband go home it was all cold. we live 5 min away. He even tipped them and when he got home we realized all of this was wrong. I’m super disappointed. I can’t believe a place of service would actually serve food this way. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the food tasted decent once I reheated it.

I have«used» SuperMex as my go to caterer since they have opened. Last time Dec 52015. Always PROMPT and exactly what I order, and ANYONE can pick up the order! I have eaten in the restaurant multiple times, and have had excellent service, except when using a Groupon for the first time. Usually I get the Carnitas take out meal, and then order something off menu.

They were short handed in help and still provided good food and good service for low cost. Been a customer for over 30 years.

For the price you pay and the service you get, it is not worth it. This isn’t a unreasonable review either. I’ve been in the service industry for over 10 years, and i know how it feels like on their side. But there is absolutely no sense of urgency with the servers. Don’t get me wrong they are very friendly.

This is my family’s go to Mexican restaurant. The margaritas are tasty, they have a decent selection of Mexican beers on tap. The lsalsa is homemade and exceptional and the chips are freshly fried tortillas. Yum! I’ve never had a bad meal here. The service has always been friendly and good.

Good food and good service. There were 5 of us seated at a table with a bench on one side and two chairs in the other. No one can sit at the end of the table so three of us sat on one side while two sat on the other. Very uncomfortable when one is left-handed and has all but 1 foot of space to work with. I honestly don’t know what they were thinking by seating 5 adults at a table designed for 4. It was a busy Saturday night but no excuse for that. I didn’t want to upset the grandparents who were already comfortably seated so we sat through dinner without complaint. Interior lighting is super bright, harsh. But at least it helps identify the greasy but complimentary chips. The service was friendly and prompt. The food is delicious. The complimentary chips were oily but hardly noticeable once dipped in the fresh salsa. Guacamole and sour cream for nachos costs $ 1.50 extra. Not a lot of money… till you see that Super Mex only gives you a couple of tablespoons each. Looking for another Mexican restaurant.

It’s not great. It’s not bad. If you’re in the area and you want Mexican… it’s a decent option. When it comes to Mexican, though… I have two favorites: Javier’s(any location except the super douchey, Housewives of Orange County Newport Coast one; I usually eat at the Irvine and Vegas property) and Sabroso! in Garden Grove. Javier’s has better ambiance, carnitas, margaritas, and salsa. Sabroso! has this buttery shrimp dish and tamale that is… oh my. Super Mex… it’s ok. The chips were… different. They were whole tortillas and a bit difficult to break apart. It was a little odd. The salsa was just… average. We ordered the guacamole. So watered down. Such a disappointment. The carnitas wasn’t bad, but Little Onion(Santa Ana) and Javier’s do a much better job. Service was a bit slow. I don’t know. Not sure if I’ll be back.

I wish there was a zero star option. this places menu items should be titled 1. Clogged arteries 2. Complete obesity 3. Heart attack special. The food is tasteless and drenched in oil. It took an hour and a half to get our food and was cold when it came. I don’t know how this place has stayed in business for so long. Our server, Jose truilio, was awesome. Its too bad he works at such a crappy restaurant. If irvine had a couple more Mexican dining places then this place would be shut down in a heartbeat. Don’t waste your time or money.

A-ok considering it’s Mexican food from Irvine delivered via LA Bites. Here are the highlights — Guacamole seems to be filled with lettuce. What is the point of lettuce these days? This could be improved upon. — Enchilada sauce is surprisingly spicy — Rice is bland — Enchilada sauce combined with the rice fixes the aforementioned blandness — Shredded chicken is tasty — Carne asada is ok — The burrito is pure drunk food bliss — Chips require effort — Fairly priced Overall, I enjoyed my meal considering the context in which I ordered it. I will likely be back if I’m ever craving Mexican food from Irvine.

What happened to this place? This is the only reason my husband and I drive to Irvine, after yesterday i don’t know if we will be back. A bus boy was taking orders, orders were lost and they were behind in the kitchen because not enough staff. We had to flag people down to have your drinks and chips refilled, some customer even brought their empty cups and chip bowls up to the bar counter because no one was being waited on. The food is still good, i just hope they go back to the service they use to have.

Unfortunately, we are going to stop coming to this Super Mex. The service is THAT bad. We have been waiting for our food fit almost a hour. Same thing when we came last time. Same great food, but far too long a wait.

It was Tuesday and we were looking for a place for Taco Tuesday and decided to stop in. They didn’t have any deals but we decided to try it out anyway. I got the chicken enchilada which was just ok. The chicken was dry and tasteless. The rice was flavorless too. The only good thing was the chips and salsa. What prompted this review was this: My dad got their chile releno, enchilada plate and ended up with food poisoning. Violent vomiting and stomach cramps when he got home. Never going here again!

Um. Wtf? I sometimes forget why I don’t come here and end up coming because I work in the area. Well here I am– got here at 3, one elderly couple here finishing up their meal, no one else here. I’m just now receiving my quesadilla. A full 20 min for them to make a quesadilla. A lackluster quesadilla. A greasy, nearly tasteless quesadilla. Well there goes my break. Food doesn’t rock, would be acceptable if we lived further from Mexico. Hella mediocre to be in California. I also don’t like the tostada shell chips– guess they want to give you the task if making your own chips to distract you from the wait.

We came for lunch and were pleased! Good food(mmmmm nachos) and churros :) strong margaritas and I like that they bring the Cadillac shot with the margarita so you can pour it yourself. We shall return!

I really love coming here. Every time I crave Mexican Food, this is one of my favorite go-to places. I love their chips and salsa. Also a big fan of their crispy beef tacos. I have not tried many things(mostly creature of habit) but everything that I have tried has been very good. If you’re looking for a decent Mexican restaurant, Super Mex is definitely a great place to go.

Super Mex puts out an honorable plate of Mexican fare in North Irvine. If nothing else, Super Mex gets a nod to nostalgia. They have been quietly been churning out their salsa, tacos, burritos, fajitas, flautas and combination plates at their location on Culver and Walnut since the late 80’s. The service is much warmer than it needs to be and you will likely be called«Amigo“as you sit down. The menu will must likely feel familiar, if not completely cliché, but offers just about anything Mexican you are looking for. From Albondigas to Fajitas, the traditional and not-so-traditional will be found and most is serviceable or better. I will admit that I visit Super Mex very rarely these days, in fact my last visit was the first in over a decade. That said, I felt sentimental sitting down to the table with the large, round tortilla rounds that you have to crush a bit to share and I forgot that they create a truly righteous salsa. Without looking at a menu I ordered the standby from high school — The Carne Asada Super Mex Burrito; served wet. The Carne Asada Super Mex Burrito is nothing if not gargantuan. An Enchilada sauce slathered Burrito containing diced marinated Steak, Beans, Cilantro, Onions and Lettuce is presented before your eyes hot and bubbling. The sauce is mildly spicy without overpowering the Burrito and has a great, bold umami flavor to it thanks to an addition I just couldn’t pinpoint. The Burrito was plenty tasty but I must admit that the Tortilla was a bit too thick for my liking and the Steak was somewhat overcooked and gummy. Another criticism is the cost — $ 12.00+ if you order it wet — and you should. Complaints aside, it was great to reel back the clock for 45 minutes and relive an Irvine Classic. My heart says 4 stars, the palette says 3… and 3 stars is the experience you will most likely find if you are not from the area.

Love Super Mex! Their bean, rice and cheese burritos are so good, and their salsa and guacamole are delicious, too. A big thumbs up to Letty, a supervisor there. She is so friendly and helpful! FYI: The hours listed on Unilocal are wrong. This restaurant is also open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

4 stars for finding a good Mexican food restaurant in Irvine. This definitely is not the best Mexican food I’ve ever had… But trying to find authentic Mexican in irvine is probably impossible. I’m all about authentic Mexican food, like not-so-pretty restaurants made with love from my Tia(I’m not Latina, but I’m from an area with a large percentage so I love good stuff!) The chips are large circular corn tortillas and the salsa was really yummy! I got 3 carnitas tacos + rice and beans for only $ 7.50! To me, it’s worth it. Again… Were in irvine, so I’m used to paying for overpriced food here. My food was very satisfying! The workers were very sweet, so I have no complaints. I would definitely come back!
