Inexpensive way to listen to a professional orchestra. Entrance fee is $ 10 and the setting is set in an intimate church sanctuary. This is not an event for little kids, so parents, find a baby sitter. The programs end by 4:00, so its a good way to enjoy a lazy weekend. Follow them on Facebook at

In the same way that a great Kung Fu movie will make you want to kick some ass after watching it, a great orchestra concert should make you want to create some music of your own afterwards. I can honestly say that Symphony Irvine’s inaugural concert was good enough to make me want to dig out my violin and play until my neighbors call the cops(luckily, I’m quite good at restraining my many wild urges). This new orchestra, with performances at the Irvine Presbyterian Church, provides a unique and intimate musical experience that you simply can’t get at bigger places like Disney Hall or the Hollywood Bowl. Sure, their first concert could have been better(ahem 1st violins for the Schumann ahem), but for a group composed entirely of volunteer musicians, you gotta admit that was a pretty impressive effort on Sunday. In fact, the members of this community should consider themselves lucky to have a local orchestra like this that is worthy of their attention and patronage. If you like classical music, do yourself a favor and check them out. Perhaps you’ll find yourself humming a few bars afterwards too…
