The Mustangs of Las Colinas are a work of art commissioned by African Wildlife Artist Robert Glen. The sculpture consists of 9 mustangs galloping thru a granite stream in front of Williams Square. The fountains spraying up from the feet bring the statue to life by giving the appearance that the mustangs are actively stepping through the water right in front of you. The history of the statues is as interesting as the statues themselves. In the late sixties and seventies, rancher and businessman Ben Carpenter was converting his family ranch from a ranch to a mixed use business and residential center that would become Las Colinas. Carpenter wanted a focal point for his new development and he wanted to artistically express Texas’ natural untamed past. Just like for the Las Colinas area, Carpenter had a vision of what he wanted and now just needed an artist that could execute that vision, and thus he found Robert Glen. Glen worked for 8 years to create what is visible for free today. It is a sight to behold any time of the day, as it takes on a new personality as the day and lighting changes.

A fabulous depiction of Wild Mustangs. This is a must see if you are ever in the Las Colinas area. Located very close to the Omni Mandalay hotel this is a nice place to relax and unwind… especially in the evening. This sculpture was dedicated in 1984 and created by Robert Glen and there is even a nice background note about the artist and sculpture on site. Great photo opportunities and set in a beautiful office park. A must see if ever in the Irving area!

The Mustangs is a beautiful sculpture that is a must see for anyone visiting Dallas for the first time. It is located only 10 to 15 minutes away from DFW airport. There is free parking right in front of the sculpture. It’s just a quick little trip but represents a segment of the wonderful Texas culture and history. Children love seeing these large mustangs that appear to be running through the streams. Behind the Williams Square granite sign, is a wonderfully written description of the sculpture and how it represents Texas and it’s history and Texas spirit. The sculpture is very easy to get to and there are restaurants, neighborhoods and office buildings located close by. The area is very clean and safe. This exhibit represents among many things, «men riding free on free land.»
