I’ve tried almost everything on the menu but the ribs and sausage here are the best! The sausage is slightly spicy and hearty, the ribs are juicy and tasty, the brisket is tender, and the sides are delicious. The BBQ beans and the potatoes are the best in town. The service is also top notch. The owner and staff are so friendly. Tommy’s BBQ is a Texas BBQ joint you can count on!

I have lived in Irving for almost 10 years, and when I crave for good local bbq this place is it. Consistent tender brisket and meaty pork ribs at down home price… Tommy is my texas bbq connection..

This place has kind of a bad rap and it’s underserved, if you ask me. Granted, I lived within walking distance most of life and never went but I was missing out. I had the dynamite special which came with a chopped beef sandwich, way more fries than I could handle and a drink. I believe it was $ 7.99, not too shabby. The chopped beef was really good and extremely chopped. That was a first for me. The fries were very good. The sauce also. I really liked the décor. It was kind of kooky and weird but probably pretty standard for old barbecue joints. I will definitely go back when I’m a achin’ for some bbq. Beware, the bathroom doors are heavy. Don’t forget your little ones when they disappear in there.

What can I say about Tommy’s that others that don’t like it haven’t already? Like almost every other B-B-Q joint I’ve ever been to, this one hands down has THE worst side dishes you’ll ever have the misfortune to place between your lips. The Mac & Cheese is so over cooked that you can squeeze it between your teeth like jello, the BBQ beans are right out of the can with more sauce added and then cooked into a nice brown shapeless sticky paste. The fried okra is of the Sysco frozen variety, and then left in the steam table until they are like breaded and fried balls of green slime. I could go on forever but I don’t want to wreck your lunch! Oh, the smoked turkey is like eating cold cuts right out of the refrigerator.

Had one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I’ve ever had at this place.

we went in and asked if it was good. The employee there said«Try it.» I guess he didn’t lie.

My daughter and I went for dinner and were pleased despite the outside appearance of the place. I had a chopped BBQ sandwich(I took half of it home because it was so big), and my girl had a stuffed baked potato. She enjoyed her potato and I enjoyed the sandwich but nothing about this place really stood out. I wouldn’t make a special trip for this place, but I would stop in if I was in the neighborhood.

Just arriving at DFW a co-worker and I took off to explore Dallas before checking into the hotel. Looking for something to fill our empty stomachs we saw Tommy’s from a distance. As we pulled into the parking lot we started to question our decision as it looked questionable. We saw a half a dozen cars in the parking lot and thought«Texas BBQ»… Order the chopped beef sandwich(small-thankfully), BBQ beans, mashed potatoes. Not much flavor at all to the meat even with the sauce, potatoes were cold. Turns out all the cars in the parking lot turned out to be employees and family who were there… since we were the only customers. We’ll do better research next time and check reviews on Unilocal BEFORE we go somewhere.

There are some hole-in-the-wall places that are started by families or friends on a shoestring budget with the idea of focusing more on making fantastic food and less on the location. And then there are places that are hole-in-the-wall because the owners are cheap and put out mediocre food at best. Tommy’s Barbecue falls into the latter. A coworker and I wound up there the other night after having his GPS unit get us lost and we needed food. After flipping through a couple of pages we figured we’d give this a shot. It’s a little run-down building with a lighted sign that doesn’t light. Upon walking it you’ll notice the standard cafeteria style Texas barbecue décor — basic signs explaining your options, trays and tables. I went with the two meat combo(ribs and beef), which came with two sides. The sides were served from steam trays and most looked like they had been there since the place opened. I opted for the cole slaw and the fries(which were fresh). The fries were good. The cole slaw was, well, cole slaw. The meat was tender — which is the absolute best that could be said about it. It was excessively fatty, mostly flavorless(except for the ribs which were just salty). The sauce didn’t do much except wet the meat and give it a brownish-orange tint. There’s great barbecue to be found in Texas. But let me tell you, it’s not here.
