So me and my brother from another mother decided to go to this place near home. I normally go out to manhattan but this place is great. Had a great experience no complains at all. I walked in as soon as i did i was acknowledged. Food came out quick less than 20 mins. Food taste waaaaaayyyyyy better than i expected with is a huge plus. I will deff come back. Prices aren’t high so I’m confused on why it says that but i will say that it is BYOB and they do accept credit cards. I give Marcy(the manager) 5 stars for her service. I will be coming back!!!

They use imitation crab meat which is not good in my opinion. The service is not good I’ve been here a couple times and when you walk in literally the whole room just looks over at you and continues what they’re doing. Finally someone will come up to you and take your order. The environment is not welcoming at all. A lot of young people working there. It feels like unless you’re friends with the workers they ignore everyone else. The food is ok. The seafood pasta is the most popular dish but would be so much better with fresh seafood especially for the price. I heard they revamped so hopefully it’s better there now. I’ll update my review.

I’ve heard about this place and since I was in the area. I went to check it out. I orders the catfish and Hennessy wings. The food was just ok. For some reason the catfish, was bland. And the wings taste like regular Fried wing flings with sauce. It wasn’t the worse food but not great.

This spot is popping not only do they have beautiful woman cooking the food it’s a great experience to just sit and listen to music while waiting for your food to be prepared in front of your eyes amazing spot

The best dish to order here is the seafood ziti the only thing that messes up the dish for most people is the imitation crab(which they add in most dishes). Not a place I would sit down and eat in either, it doesn’t have a relaxing vibe to be honest. The wings are also the highlight of the menu kind of pricey $ 1 a wing basically and no options to order more than six. The wait staff is not friendly for the most part. I also think it’s byob. Last time I ordered out there I found half my pasta sitting in the to go bag because the container wasn’t closed properly.

Pictures can be so deceiving. I am an extreme foodie so I love to try different places(especially local). I have heard multiple people rave over this establishment so of course! I had to go. The service was poor. Waiter did not acknowledge my friend and I for about 10 mins. It was not busy. The major disappoint of mine was the IMITATIONCRABMEAT. My god, I can go to the Chinese store and get crab sticks for that. I feel as though they should use real crab meat and up the price if need be, Or just clearly state that it is imitation. Why spoil fresh shrimp and salmon with imitation crab meat? It ruined the idea of my crab cakes and seafood ziti. I would suggest using a higher grade of bread for the crab cakes rather than potato roles from ShopRite. Caesar salad extremely wet. BBQ wings were tiny and something I could make at home. after spending 56 dollars on less than mediocre food I would not return.

There were some good & some bad to my experience at Bistro Six49; let’s just start with the positive. Most of the food is cooked fresh to order. The Chef is extremely flexible in altering each meal to suit your taste. Not only can you see your food being cooked, but you can smell the great aromas, which made me want to order everything. I ordered the Crabby Patty which wasn’t on the menu; I must say it has the making of something great. In order to reach greatness, they will need to substitute the imitation crabmeat for real crabmeat; I understand that will increase the price, but trust me it will be well worth the increase. You have salmon, shrimp & then to put imitation crabmeat ruined it! It was seasoned very well, even the bun was soft and tasty, but«yuck» to the imitation crab; so my review of The Crabby Patty is a 3 out of 5 stars, switch to real crab & I’m sure it will be 5 stars. My only real negative comment is on the organization of staff, there’s just too many people confused about what to do, they need to get organized & lastly, for sanitary reasons put a clear divider separating the cooking food from the patrons at the counter. Overall this place has much potentials with a little guidance. I would go back and try something different, just not on my lunch time.

Love love love this place !!! The cook right in front of you ! They have a young staff which is a great opportunity for our young adult community to become familiar with dinning experiences. Dom(the owner) is very social and not to mention a magnificent chef ! ! This is definitely a must stop especially if you are from the Greater Newark Area…

The food looks great. I visited once with my mother and sister. We all ordered something different so we can kinda share. It was good. I wish the building was in a better location. Bigger bathroom so I don’t have to leave out the toilet room to wash my hands and powder my nose.

I’m an amateur foodie and with the help of Unilocal,I tend to get around to various establishment to see what the fuss is about. Well tonight my friend suggested we stop here for dinner. I’m not opposed to dining in Newark or its surrounding areas, what I am opposed to on the other hand is shitty service, bad presentation, and odd ambience! This place could get a bump in their rating IF they had a seasoned wait staff who are attentive, who introduce themselves, who check on patrons, and whom are dressed professionally. I mean because you are serving locals doesn’t mean you can be lackluster in your service! Our lil waitress had on a ultra mini skirt that prohibited her movement, she never introduced herself to us, her hair was all over her head(You’re Serving food HUN!) She never checked on us but once, with my bottle beverage she never brought me a glass of ice as my Snapple was a bit warm. It was hot inside as its small and the air was not one. The set up is weird I thought I was walking into a barbershop as there is a leather couch oddly placed from the front door which is next to a fridge. The flatware is cheap, plates are cheap, and did I say that it was HOT in there??? Like come on DO better here! Now as I didn’t mind my imitation crabmeat in my Seafood Ziti… the presentation was Ehhhh and the price for such a dish was uhhhhh. It’s a nice try but this place needs to be revamped if it wants to be a stand out.

I follow this chef on IG the food looks fantastic but eveything that looks good is not always good. This is also the opinion of my son and his wife also. I made the suggestion to go there then I had my regrets. We ordered 2 lobster dishes with linguini and the seafood ziti. Oh the Krabbie cakes were horrible. He used imitation crab meat. And none of our food had fresh ingredients I guess trying to save money. I don’t like given bad reviews but maybe it would help. And I’m sure ppl that don’t eat naturally fresh foods would enjoy this. FYI alfredo sauce from scratch is cheap and very easy to make.

*THEYONLYUSEIMITATIONCRABMEAT* My husband and mother-in-law ordered the lobster tail with pasta. They both thought the lobster tail tasted funny — it was oddly sticky and didn’t taste fresh. The alfredo sauce used in the pasta tastes like it’s out of a can. It was watery and had no flavor. The hennessey sauce my husband chose for his pasta was good. But the seafood was not. I ordered the seafood ziti. It was full of canned, imitation crab meat that was disgusting. The salmon in the baked ziti wasn’t fresh. Our«krabbie patty»(crab cake) appetizer was also imitation crab meat and also disgusting. We were the only people in the restaurant but it took over 20 minutes to get our drinks after we ordered. They also do not serve any alcohol or wine. I didn’t even bother to ask for a box for our leftovers. I wouldn’t waste time or money on this place unless you’re just ordering water(which costs $ 2.50). .

Not a good experience at all. Waited an hour and 25 minutes for our meal. The couple across from my table waited extremely long as well. They didn’t look too happy. The patrons in a restaurant should not be having conversations on how terrible the service is. Just coming into the establishment the waitress forgot to give us menus for the first 30 mins. We just got up and got them ourselves. Also the smell of weed and cigarettes from the outside while eating dinner was a complete turn off. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay and eat here. If you must, just order your meal to go because the dine in experience is less than desirable. It’s unpleasant. I LOVE places like Vonda’s in Newark and wanted to help support this black business, but they’ve got a long way to go.

This bistro is truly a diamond in the rough – so to speak. A ‘diamond’ being the quality and visually appealing cuisine. The ‘rough’ being the neighborhood. The food is nothing short of palatable, yum! Can’t remember the pricing but I’m sure it wasn’t anything exponential. Not only do I love supporting black businesses, the chef is great at his craft. If you’re in the area you should definitely check it out.

This place is the hidden gem of irvington. The staff is very nice and helpful. The food is amazing. I tell everyone to try the Salmon first because its mouth watering. I’m not goin to go into much detail here because i fear my words won’t do this place justice. Go check it out for yourself and experience something great.

I have been here a few times for take out, and overall the food is pretty solid. If you are into all types of seafood then you will love the food here. I am not the biggest fan of all seafood so my assessment should be taken lightly. The dished are very versatile and pleasing to the eye. The chef cooks everything in front of you, and its pretty entertaining to see while you wait. I had the tilapia with pasta and creole sauce once, and the tilapia was on the average side, but fresh. The pasta and veggies were pretty good. For me, the wings are the highlight. The Parmesan garlic wings are to die for. Fried, well seasoned with a great combination of both flavors. Not too salty, and definitely not bland. The Hennessy wings are good, and the Hennessy tatse doesn’t over power, yet you taste a decent hint of it. There is definitely a great deal more to try so I will be returning.
