If you want to a good casual desi food fix, this is a safe bet in the NY/NJ area quite honestly. Junoon is my favorite Indian/Pakistani restaurant in NYC, but that is more fine dining. Shalimar is essentially a step up from Curry Hill spots in Manhattan and much cleaner than anything in Jackson Heights.

I’m a repeat customer, but only because their kabobs are good. The people are nasty. And they charge too much for the chutney. I ordered $ 300 worth of food and the lady told me extra chutney was $ 2 for a small bowl. That’s stupid as hell.

Im a fan, the food are great. I come from houston Texas where there are a huge populations of Desi people. The atmosphere felts like hillcroft and taste like bombai. Also they got a masjid room upstair on the same building. So that’s awesome.

I use to go here all the time but the quality and taste of the food has dropped drastically. The Keema naan use to be great from here but now it taste like your eating cardboard. Kandahar across the street is better!

Atrocious service! Disrespectful and manerless! Don’t visit this place even if they offer free food! And dirty nevertheless!

Good takeout place, the quantity is about right however the spice levels are mild. The Kababs taste good, the biriyani was average. They have a good spread of vegetarian dishes too. One of the few places that stay open after midnight.

We brought an order of kabobs and naan home for the fam due to limited available of restaurants in our area. Impressed that they had kabobs available in the morning Whether they were made fresh in the morning as the woman indicated is questionable. Good food but 3% for using a credit card? While the other places that are owned by the same owner did not mention a 3% surcharge when paying. Kind of wee-erd! However, the kabobs are good and they included a lil bit of salad and a nice container full of yogurt. I would have liked some chutneys instead of the salad. 3 star rating for the lack of customer service.

Waited for half hour for a take out order. The lady was on phone while taking order and moving around took ten mins to take the order. Finally said no credit cards for less than $ 20 order. We were just short of 20. Had no cash. We requested again to take debit card at least. The lady just ignored and kept talking on phone like we didn’t exist. A bunch of ppl standing behind us on the line and we were forced to order something else to bring it above 20. If you want to get embarrassed in front of a bunch of ppl standing on line and treated like shit just for being their customer. Go here and pay a visit. Ppl don’t need to beg u for food. We pay money and want to be treated with respect! Pathetic!!! Food smells spoiled and cold. Definitely made more than 24 hours ago and not refrigerated. Dumping out everything.!!

Used to be my go to spot for chicken kabobs, but I’m never going back… When I was new to the area, my dad seemed to favor this place, and because I trust his judgement and its never lead me astray, I never really went anywhere else. The taste hasn’t really changed, but the service is atrocious. Two visits ago, I got a dozen kabobs to go and wanted to pay with card. I’m aware that these stores prefer cash, but I figure since I’m buying almost $ 20 worth of food they won’t mind. The lady gave me attitude when I wanted to pay with card. Fine, I’ll pay with cash. The most recent trip was even worse than the last, and hence I’m done with this place. We ordered 2 dozen kabobs, 1 beef haleem and 1 naan. A little over $ 40 worth of food. Can I please just pay with card? Its about the convenience(yes, our generation is spoiled). No, they prefer cash. Fine… I don’t carry cash, but my wife does(thanks wifey). Everything is good? Nope. Because we asked for 4 kabobs to be heated so that we can eat them on the spot we got charged for 20 kabobs«to-go» and 4 kabobs«eat-in». Somehow the logic doesn’t seem sound, but you can decide that one for yourself. Apparently there is a 3% discount for paying with cash too, but honestly this whole mess can be avoided if they simply had some rule and stuck with it. For example, just have it written before you order, «no cards under $ 20, 3% cash discount on all orders». You would easily earn my trust and business if you just had it stated somewhere instead of making stuff up on the spot. Topping off the frustration was the fact that I couldn’t get a lid for the raita that we couldn’t finish. Seriously, a lid is $ 0.05, just give me a lid, I don’t want to throw away food. I asked three times, the first time she said she already gave me enough raita, the next 2 times she ignored me. I don’t think the people who run the place understand how competitive the area is. There are 20 other restaurants within the area that probably serve better food, with better service. I used to overlook the sanitary conditions for the taste of the food, but now I can’t. Avoid this place at all costs.

Worst service I’ve ever experienced. The woman taking our order answered the phone literally in the middle of taking our order and continued to ignore us as she stayed on the phone for at least 5 minutes. Then she stepped away from the counter backed into the kitchen area and lingered there while we stood there wondering if she was ever going to finish taking our order. After a total of 10 minutes of waiting we had to ask another man behind the counter if order was going to be taken or are we just going to be ignored. She took our order unapologetically, but we decided to cancel our order a minute later(before any cooking/heating up took place). This place treats new customers like ghosts. Side Note: While we were waiting a man entered the restaurant and walked up to the woman had a nice length conversation while we were still waiting for our order to be initially taken. We were completely disregarded. He seemed like he was another employee trying to get something done, if that is redeeming quality about this place.

This is worst biriyani I have ever had in United States. We were 6 and ordered for mutton biriyani, the rise was dry and the mutton was not cooked properly. Most importantly«their service was worst and the girl who was serving us was so rude, we dint at all fee comfortable in talking to her» the one star I gave was only coz it’s open all night. Huff yar I recommend not to goto this place

Great food. 3 stars because they charge an extra 3% if you use credit and the lack of customer service. Last time I went, the lady got my order wrong. I also thought since she messed up my order, she could give me some extra raitha. A small container of raitha will not suffice if I ordered 12 kebabs and 6 naans! Step up, Shalimar!!!

4 stars. The food is great. Really delicious. We ordered a big order for a big group and everyone really enjoyed their meal. HOWEVER… I completely agree with 2 reviews before me… 1. THISPLACEISREALLYEXPENSIVE. 2. THELADYWHOTAKESORDERSOVERTHEPHONEISAGGRAVATINGLYRUDE. As I’m placing a big order, she tells me to hurry up and order quicker!!! I wasn’t even taking my time! I let it go until the 3rd time she said«Quick, quick»… and I yelled back that I’m a customer and I’m making a big order from her business and that she needs to relax!!! She immediately changed her tone. Then at the end of it all, she forgot the rice and we had to make another trip back to pick it up. Anyway… yes, we would order from there again because it was so tasty, but she’s obnoxious and probably sets the prices as well.

I cant believe I overpaid for cold chicken tikka and walked all over by her. I HATETHISPLACE.

Wonderful Seek Kabibs and everything else is cooked to perfection! THIS is the place to stop for Indian Food when you’re driving along the Parkway or Turnpike… THIS is little India. I seriously can’t drive anywhere near this area without stopping for a snack or a meal. EVERYTHING is delicious! I know you want more detail than that. But just go. Go now. Go for succulent chicken and lamb and vegetarian dishes… Go for the Hot Buffet. Go for the authentic spices! This place reminds me of a little place that became my favorite local food joint during my time in Amritsar, India. It’s THAT good!!! Go
