Steak always consistently perfectly cooked. I always order fillet mignon rare and it is always consistently perfectly cooked Waiters always professional. Went there last night and there was live music at the bar which I was not in the mood for and we sat in the main panel room and did not hear any music. Atmosphere perfect for a romantic date or a group

What a great place. Food is amazing. Service is amazing. Had the filet with crabmeat, plus a lobster tail, and Gorgonzola bread. So delicious. Not much more I can say. Will definitely come back.

It was just ok. Definitely would not put it in the caliber of the more notable and established steakhouses but for a neighborhood joint it’s solid. Started with their foie gras special. A bit too overly pan seared but the sautéed apples were a nice balanced touched. For Entrees ordered the boneless cowboy rib eye steak, potato gratin, sautéed string beans and the petite filet mignon. Both steaks were not cooked to what was requested so had to be taken back. Wished the cowboy steak was on the bone but beggars cant be choosers… Our waitress was really nice and accommodating. So was the rest of the serving staff and even the valet. Solid place to go if you’re in the neighborhood, but not a place to go out of your way for.

Very local feel at Jimmy Hays. I have only eaten in the dining room twice but since its usually me or me and my girlfriend, I prefer to eat at the bar. I’m not too much of a Steak Guy and truth be told, I’m a little on the conservative side when it comes to spending $$$$$ and this place aint cheap. So I tend to drink more than I eat. I do like that their dishes are not drowning in Butter, whatever they do, they do right. Always a good glass of wine and a fun bartender and a Very Colorful crowd at the bar. See you at the bar…

Let me start off by saying Paulette it is probably the best server in the place! and what a beautiful restaurant it is! hardwood throughout, old pics hanging of ownership and vaulted ceiling. OK anyway onto the food which is what really counts, my favs are Fried calamari and Gorgonzola Bread, they are very popular for a reason My taste buds were very very happy, The filet mignon perfectly grilled to perfection, it’s own juices load it with flavor, garlic mash were on point and drinks were potent w moderate prices, theres a reason this place has strived for many years in the heart of Island Park! look forward to next visit! Ps ONLY complaint was poorly made cappuccino, when I asked the manager to make one not as strong he told me there is nothing he can do about it because its made with push of a button… Poor answer, in a fine dining establishment like this they should not be making cappuccino with the push of a button! That is All lol

I have absolutely no clue what the negative reviews are about at all. I ate here with a large group last night and this was the best meal i ate in the last 5 years… and this includes Peter Luger’s and most restaurants in RVC. My Beef Wellington was so good that i would eat it every night and never get sick of it. I am enjoying the food coma and i still am in now. The chowder was incredible, the service was funny, attentive and professional. Even the coffee tasted better than normal coffee. Before the meal we sat at the bar for an hour and talked to a real cool bartender who took care of us attentively and was very social. I cannot speak to the valet as I parked on the side street and did not use them as there was plenty of parking at 5:15 on a weeknight. I highly recommend this establishment. Thank you Jimmy Hays!

I have been coming here since I was a kid when they opened. The food is usually on point and very good. The rib eye special is awesome. I give four stars be use sober the years I have had a few bad experiences. Definitely give this place a try. It’s worth the money.

Everything about this place is perfect. Good, service, bar, all perfect. They did add on a female waitress and she’s a bit of a dope so I started requesting a make waiter. :)

Something ain’t correct about this place. .. .. The Valet Guys are very shady & made me uneasy. I continued to feel even more«Uneasy» upon interacting with the sarcastic host/manager. Never again. .. .. .. We’re probably going to PL’s tomorrow. Now my girlfriend is infuriated @ me & won’t talk to me. :-(

My family and I went to celebrate my mother in law birthday a few days ago. It was a joyful evening until we notice the service was not up to par. We were constantly being rushed to order and when we ordered the waiter was cold and not friendly to our compliments on the food which was actually delicious. The treatment as the night progressed, we noted that there was an underlying cause to the rushed service. We were the only African Americans for dinner that evening and they were uncomfortable to serving USOFCOLOR. The waiter tossed our plates in front of us, rushed serving the portion of sides and they didn’t even celebrate my mother in law BDay, when on the next table they did. When we received the $ 600 bill, we also noted that they did not include gratuity. We understand tipping the waitstaff 20% but since the service was not satisfactory, we took it upon ourselves to tip accordingly to how we were treated 10% when in fact we should have not tip at all especially when we felt the discomfort. The tension that was in the air and the treatment we’d receive was NOTCOOL. You could cut it with a knife the way they stared at us as we dined and began to finish up to exit. As we go our coats, the rude manager approached us an threaten us to never come back and they will never serve people like us cause we voiced our opinion on the lackluster service. A smart manager would pull a customer aside but he wanted to show his power and yelled at us in front of other patrons. Either way the customer is always right to how the service is presented to them. He when as far as to verbally disrespect my mother in law in front of other customers lingering at the bar. The night was almost ruin but we bounce back and continued on with the celebration. We just dust that type of HATE off our shoulders and let it be known to our vast number friends and business colleagues to not visit this establishment.

I visited Jimmy Hays to have a great date night meal from a recommendation of a friend and it did not disappoint. We did make a reservation, one was not needed on the night as it was not overly busy due to the extremely cold weather. From the moment we entered the service was spectacular, very warm and friendly; from the host all the way to the waiter and even the bus boys. The décor was classic, warm and even gave the vibe that you are in a top notch steakhouse. We started off with beers which came almost immediately after we ordered them, we did skip the appetizers, as it was just two of us, and we ordered an extra side instead. There were about 15 specials all of which the waiter said were great, and he knew details, flavors and ingredients of each one. I ordered the boneless rib-eye special(medium rare), my date ordered the Filet Mignon(meadium well), along with table sides of asparagus and mashed potatoes. The steaks and sides came out perfectly cooked, huge portions, and tasted great. If you are in the area I would highly recommend trying Jimmy Hayes!

The Gorgonzola bread at Jimmy Hayes tastes like biting into a piece of heaven! Everything I have had at Jimmy’s is delicious. I have been a frequent guest for over 20 years. Obviously known for their AMAZING steaks, I have had a couple of fish dishes that were simply delightful. The service is spectacular, very warm and friendly staff. If you are in the area I would highly recommend trying Jimmy Hayes!

Birthday dinner: House salad was good… nothing spectacular. Nice strawberry vinaigrette dressing. I had Steak au poivre. The sauce was exquisite. The two filets were cooked differently. One was rare… the other medium well. I ordered medium… I guess if you average the two… I got what I wanted. However, the flavor was still excellent. I had the old fashioned sundae for dessert. It was very good… not superb, but very good. I also thoroughly enjoyed a Nutty Irishman coffee… one of the best I’ve ever had. Service was superb and I thoroughly enjoyed the Rodney Strong Cabernet with my meal. Pricey…but worth it.

Fantastic restaurant! Definitely on par with other well known steakhouses which I won’t name. Let’s just say Petey’s got nuthin’ on Jimmy. The entire menu looks appetizing already. Then, they hit you up with the daily specials and you wonder why they even need a menu? We only ordered drinks with our main courses, then dessert. It was plenty of food although I was disappointed because I wanted to try some starters. Next time! Everything was delicious, well prepared and presented, with a courteous and professional staff. We had 2 boneless rib eye steaks which sat on a bed of mixed veggies, bacon and a potato hash brown. Ordered rare to medium rare and both were perfect! Atlantic salmon came with shrimp, artichokes, spinach and white wine lemon herb sauce and was great. Hot chocolate lava cake and a pair of homemade rice puddings with whipped cream on top was a perfect ending to our fabulous meal. Definitely coming back!

An all around solid steakhouse that has been around for decades. Classy old school vibe has you feeling like your eating in the grand dining room from The Shining(minus the ghouls). Service is excellent. Bow ties and all. Gorgonzola garlic bread is an awesome app, and raw bar tower is reasonably priced. Porterhouse for 2 is a generous cut of meat, and includes house salad, two sides, and some damn good onion rings. Not bad for $ 102. Never overly crowded, never rushed by servers. Couple of small negatives: Lobster bisque I’d pass on. A $ 12 bowl of soup with not so much as one solid piece of lobster floating around. They force you to valet, even if the lot is empty. Not that I really care, but the lot is literally 5 steps away… this isn’t the city. I guess they feel it adds to the experience. Bottom line, expect a good meal. Bring your wallet, and your appetite.

It took me forever, but I FINALLY tried Jimmy Hayes! Don’t even think about NOT ordering the Gorgonzola bread appetizer. Simply put, it’s heaven in the form of bread and cheese. It should be against the law to come here and not order this. In fact, if you order the Gorgonzola bread and don’t like it, you are not human. I heard they don’t take reservations, but that’s not a problem for us because we’re old farts that enjoy eating dinner with the cadavers before 5pm. The appetizer was so filling, we couldn’t even finish our Porterhouse for 2 which was cooked perfectly(or lack thereof) rare with a cold, red center. You’d be surprised how many restaurants mess that up. I also love how the steak comes with a side and a salad. Most other restaurants of this caliber are a la cart, so that was nice. We ordered a side of creamed spinach which I thought had been pureed too much and wasn’t that great to be honest, I wouldn’t order it again. That being said, our waitress& the atmosphere was great and everything else was perfect. Valet parking in the front. Gorgonzola bread is a MUST. You’re welcome.
