Dark Harbor Shop is a vital resource on the beautiful island of Islesboro – a go to resource for sandwiches and much loved ice cream. Hours can seem a little unpredictable, so if you’re counting on it do call ahead.

Dark Harbor Shop is our favorite shop on the island. With good, fresh sandwiches and grinders, it is an excellent place to eat, and their summer hours till 7pm allow you to have a nice later dinner on the comfortable picnic tables on the front porch. The super club sandwich, a BLT and a club sandwich combined, is delicious, and their grinders, be warned, are enormous. They come in 12 inch lengths, so share one with a friend if you don’t typically eat a foot-​long sub! But the ice cream, oh the ice cream! That may be where Dark Harbor Shop’s fame originates. From pistachio to cookie dough to my favorite, blueberry cheesecake, you have to try a cone! Employees were friendly and personable, and they were quick to chat as we sat at the lunch counter. They are accommodating and welcoming — maybe the reason we were there four times in one week. Or maybe it was the ice cream…

I highly recommend the Maine Tracks ice cream!
Cute gift shop. They also have an isle of necessities.
