Awesome. If you’re swayed by appearances, you’ll be missing out if you bypass Holcomb’s. The service is incredible. It was a long day; a hot day; a long car ride for which a nice cool custard sounded like just the thing. I saw the sign for Holcomb’s too late to make the turn and drove a bit before I decided to turn around and check it out. I’m glad I did. The young girl must have seen my car pull up since there was no one at the window, but she ready for me by the time I walked up to the window counter. After exchanging pleasantries(wow — do I love small towns — no rude, gum-chewing employees here), she asked what I wanted and that’s when I saw the custard menu. I was expecting a couple of different flavors and was pretty surprised to see a lot more.(It took me a while to find the custard menu because I was too busy looking at the hand-printed food menu.) Anyway, once I decided on the chocolate shake, I was again surprised when she asked if I wanted it «thick or thin». Really? There are places that actually give you a choice like that? Jackpot! I got a big size chocolate(thick) shake for a couple of bucks along with a big straw and a spoon and the friendliest service around. I’m glad I turned around.
