I moved back into my house after renting it out for 3 years. Unfortunately my tenants did not take care of the yard to my standards. The lawns were in bad shape and what little grass was actually still present was yellow. I hired Golden Rule to rehab my front and rear lawns. I really wish I’d taken BEFORE shots because a picture is worth a thousand words as we all know but I can assure you the lawns were 40%-50% moss and were in very sad & dire shape. Because we live in the damp dark northwest I am used to dealing with & accepting a little moss here and there but when it’s waving a huge mossy green flag at me from the middle of my lawn, staking it’s claim and thumbing it’s nose at me I know I have a very big problem on my hands. I am a competent week-end do it yourself-er and I knew that tackling it bit by bit to the best of my abilities was going to be time consuming, laborious, costly and likely not very successful due to the unfavorable 50⁄50 ratio of moss/grass. I hired Scott and Golden Rule for their complete renovation package which included thatch/aerate/seed/fertilize/top treatment and haul away of all debris. In prep for the thatch I applied my own moss treatment a week before they arrived to ensure all the moss was dead. As the moss died and blackened over the next week and my(almost) entire lawn turned the tell tale dead moss/black I was even more confident in my decision to hire Golden Rule for the big renovation and just be done with it. The renovation was not cheap but compared to me having to rent the equipment, beg or borrow a truck to schlep it to my house or pay for delivery, order and spread the top soil/sand mix, go to my local hardware store to buy the seed and fertilizer & perform the actual thatch & aerate itself, return the equipment and still have my health & sanity intact, it was more than well worth it. It was a really big job in which I had no interest doing myself. The crew arrived as promised & the renovation was done in one day by a couple of young able bodied guys who know what they’re doing. It would have taken me a couple of week-ends to work through each phase so for me the cost vs benefit was undeniable. They cleaned up nicely after they left too so I didn’t arrive home to any mess in my driveway or walkway areas. It’s been about 8 weeks since the renovation was performed and my lawn has just about fully recovered from the moss & weed infestation. I am really happy; mostly because I didn’t have to do one darn thing except watch my lawn recuperate and of course write that check which was in the end, worth it for me. My front lawn is just about perfect and has honestly in 14 years, never looked better, the rear lawn is having a harder time due to all the over hanging trees which create shade. I have a few spots back there where the seed didn’t come up at all and Scott is on top of this and is tackling it before I even had a chance to bring it to his attention. He saw the areas and told me what his plan of attack was going to be. It is just grass after all so a little patience and understanding is called for in my opinion. I do think Scott should take the word«Promise» out of his marketing materials, Promise is a very big word and the ability to back that big word up with performance guarantees where grass/weeds/mother nature is involved can be a slippery slope. The word Promise sets up an almost unattainable & unreasonable expectation and disappointment is almost guaranteed. Maybe changing Promise to Pledge might be a better idea and would encourage better communication between clients(that’s you) and the vendor(that’s Scott and Golden Rule). Scott is working with me to fulfill his promise of and this is taken directly from his website«No weeds No moss No lawn disease No bare spots A green, lush lawn that is better than your neighbors 100% certified organic lawn treatments If you are not satisfied with your service, we will come back at no additional charge and fix what is needed. We are seeking to build a trusting relationship with you and look forward to doing business with you for years to come.» If your experience is anything less than mine I would encourage you to call Scott and reasonably explain why you may not be 100% satisfied. I can assure you he will work his hardest to correct whatever the issue may be and to gain your trust, future business and referrals. The name of the company is Golden Rule, don’t forget what the Golden Rule is and if you don’t know what the Golden Rule is then look it up. Scott hasn’t forgotten, after all he named his company after the Golden Rule and if you can approach your lawn service provider with a little grace & civility and treat them with the Golden Rule in mind then everything will work out, I can assure you. I’m super happy and I will refer my friends to Scott. If I can figure out how to load a picture onto this review I will do that because I want you to see my gorgeous healthy green lawn.
