My wife went to Dr. Ormsby after searching for a qualified dentist near her work — she went to my dentist originally but she was wooed by the slick radio ads to Dr. Ormsby’s practice. When she received her estimate after the initial exam, there were thousands of dollars $$ worth of procedures recommended — in the 5-figure range total. The estimate amount was so high I thought my wife received someone else’s paperwork. Not to mention the overpriced rates — compared to my dentist the same procedures are averaging 40%-50% higher, and many of the procedures are just not warranted. Local anesthesia for a typical procedure is included in my dentists’ fees, but they are an additional $ 800+ fee for Dr. Ormsby. Now comes the kicker — she had a root canal procedure done and Dr. Ormsby’s office never scheduled the crown work — so my wife wore a temporary for nearly a year. And now, since she has seen the light and moved on to a real dentist who cares about their patients, she requires a second root canal on the same tooth! — which insurance will not pay for… Seems Dr. Ormsby is more interested in the quick high dollar treatments(radio ads, etc) than paying attention to the health of their patients. I would stay far far away… find a real dentist who cares about the patient and not about collecting money!

The prices here are probably 4 to 6 times above the normal market rate. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for dental services in the general area. My level of trust in this practice is very low. When I went to pay after my first cleaning, the administrators at the front desk tensed up as they began to review the services and costs. It felt reminiscent of sitting in the finance office of a car dealership.

Horrible incompetent money hungry. Avoid this woman! I went to her for an emergency root canal which ended up being a year long ordeal that ended with my taking the gold crown she made to a dentist in Binghamton and had him affix it. She could not get it to fit.

I started going to her after I got tired of being brutalized by Fall Creek Dentistry and heard her radio commercial for pain-free dentistry. She will sedate you for procedures. Getting crowns done, for example, is just so horrible and traumatic to me — waking up and having it all over with was wonderful! The office is beautiful, and the staff friendly(actually kind of too syrupy friendly). However — her prices are extremely high. Our insurance wouldn’t cover even 30% of it. And she definitely does try to do extra stuff that doesn’t need to be done. I switched again when she gave me a treatment plan for my son that came to $ 8000 — and he’s only 22! Now I can’t trust her anymore. But most dentists in Ithaca have horrible pain management(that is, no pain management). So if you are assertive enough to say no to most of the things she wants to do, and money is not an issue but pain is, she could be fine for you. My current dentist did say that the quality of the crowns she did for me is great.

This woman is by far one of the most avaricious medical practitioners I ever have encountered. About 6 years ago around when I first got to Ithaca, I went to her for a checkup and cleaning. She quoted me just over $ 12,000.00 for«necessary/pertinent» dental work, including 4 crowns… Over 6 years later, I still have not paid more than about 2,000 — 3,000 dollars in dental bills tops, including just one crown, @ Ithaca-area dentists… Clearly a MISS-diagnosis. Avoid at all costs…
