Decent selection, has gone downhill though. Owner is always drunk and gross at the register.

It is very important that you guys know that this liquor store sells everything much more expensive than any other liquor stores around the neighborhood. One week ago I bought a bottle of blue label. It was $ 207. Just went to the liquor store one block down in 87 and 37ave and I asked for one, they are selling it for $ 185. Big difference. Also the wines are more expensive. Don’t let them fool you.

This place doesn’t look like anything special, but it definitely is. The selection is great, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the prices are more than reasonable. It’s pretty much the only spot in the neighborhood where I’ll buy liquor, and I can think of at least a couple of times when I started to go somewhere else and ended up here anyway. And every time I come here, I always find what I wanted. cheers!

This store has never pleased me very much but, it was just convenient. The hours are good(as others have said), but better wine selections or the same, can be found in other places too easily. they should call themselves«Colony Liquors», not wines. because there selection of wines is so average that it is a conceit to have the word wine in there name. The price points, and, variety are not especially clever .The wine is either upper priced or the lower-priced but, common or predictable variety. I like their Scotch selection a little better but it’s not very well thought out. nothing really is. Also there is no attempt at a nice or inviting atmosphere, not like the store down the avenue on the other side of the street. There are some really good wines that are very reasonably priced and are always coming up. But, they don’t have many them. And never change with the times .((except Beaujolais near the holidays). As a customer looking for wines between $ 8 and $ 13 it would be a great price point for this neighborhood(But No) . I am never going back to colony wines again. The service is appalling. You have the feeling that they are barely interested in you at all, and just hanging out. The last straw, was when I picked out a wine that was in the wrong place, so the price, when I went to pay for it was very different. When I asked him about the price being so much higher then was marked on the shelf, He wouldn’t admit that there was a mistake and blamed me, for not reading the name in small letters under the wrong price on the shelf. This has not been the«only» time I was angered by the stupidity and, or «I don’t care attitude«of much the staff . The owner is almost never there. She doesn’t know what is going on. Her late husband was a very nice man who you would often meet in the store. I have looked at the {dates} of some of the five star ratings in Unilocal,it just makes me wonder a little thats all. The liquor store, up the block in which I will now go, has heard complaints too.

Red red wine… plus a great variety of whites, rose and sparkling wines! Plenty of spirits and liquors at super reasonable prices! :) Stuff here is organized by location — so France, Italy, Chile, etc. all have their own special section. I’ve been here a few times now as it’s my neighborhood liquor store, but yesterday probably took the cake for me(so to speak). I was literally down to the wire wish putting finishing details on a dinner I was hosting for my mom and boyfriend to meet each other when about 15 minutes before his expected arrival I realized, ALL I HAVEISWHITEWINE!!! HELIKESREDWINEONLY!!! Not to mention my momma also prefers red. Being the selfish alchy that I am(my mom has a few glasses of wine like three times a year, lol) I only really stock whites/rose for my tastes. Knowing already what type of red everyone would like wasn’t the problem, it was wanting it to be something more special is what I was struggling with… and I’ve got only 10 minutes to find the right bottle! ACK! Normally the boy and I got for a Tempranillo or something similar — sweet, not too dry, not too spicy, a little smoky is fine. But when I went to France in September and brought him back a bottle of Côtes du Rhôné, he absolutely loved it — as did I, and I knew my mom would too… I was determined to have a repeat experience and have a Côtes du Rhôné with dinner. I’m also not the type of gal that goes into any store and immediately asks for help. I went in here, went straight to the France section, couldn’t find it. Frowned since it’s not the first time a place doesn’t carry it so I grabbed a Tempranillo and hightailed it to the register. The young guy there was about to ring me up and I decided to(nicely) blurt out, «Do you guys carry any Côtes du Rhôné?». This guy didn’t even blink an eye, he was like — yep. Bolted for the France section and pointed out 2 types. He even chuckled at my original Tempranillo grab and enlightened my by saying that Tempranillo is simply the Spanish version of Côtes du Rhôné and is made with a similar type of grape(I found it a little hard to believe with each country/city having such a vastly different climate) but at the end of the day, I was guided, given wine I wanted, a little more educated about the reds that I enjoy and all in what felt like 10 minutes. He was a lifesaver! :D The wine was delicious and now I love Colony even more! Who0t!!!

I worked in this store for 5 years before it burned down. What a place. great atmosphere and great people. The store moved to 85th street but it is NOT the same. Same selection but owning the corner gave them power! Lots of wines… lots and lots. Still a great place and always open late(until10pm)

my friend lives a few blocks away from here, and she told me she was sad when they closed(apparently there was a fire at the old location). but they apparently re-opened, and it’s a pretty sweet liquor store. we came here to stock up for my housewarming party two weeks ago. they have a large selection of wine, and a lot of liquor, especially foreign ones(limoncello, aguardiente, etc). what is good about Colony is that, unlike some liquor stores, it’s fairly large inside. so you’ve got to be a real klutz to knock bottles over. contrast this to many liquor stores which are so small and tightly packed, you fear causing a disaster from just moving your head… a flood of booze would be AWESOME, but the glass, not so much. the prices are good, they are open late, and the dude staffing it had metal blasting on the stereo. I’m Mike B, and I approve this liquor store.

Oh the memories of this place. I came here as a kid with my mama and papa when we lived on 81st street, and then in high school while en route to different parties and such because they didn’t really ever card! Good to see it is still alive and well :)

This is my neighborhood liquor store, and boy has it been a life saver on more than one occasion. It is open late, till about 10, everyday, including holidays, like Thanksgiving and Christmas, which earns this store a 5 star rating. They always ask me how old I am instead of asking for ID, which always makes me laugh, I love it. They have a pretty good wine collection for a small store, and of course sufficient variety of the other essentials, i.e. beer, vodka, rum and the other hard stuff.
