Before writing any review. I always go more than once to the restaurant(I just forget to check-in). If the taste and service are consistent then it deserves a five-star review, and this restaurant passed that. All I have to say about this place is that the food is totally authentic. I simply don’t like to write a novel or get way too creative in here, since all you need to know is about the food, the environment, the prices, and the service.

ok, nothing spectacular but tacos were nice. Chicken was ok, carnitas and tongue tacos were yummy and good enough for a return visit. Stay away from their breaded shrimp taco, dry and had no flavor. Chicken flautas were just ok.

I sometimes make the trek to Jackson Heights for great Mexican food, and yesterday was one of those days. A friend and I met for lunch and as we made our way from stand to stand, sampling homemade tamales, enchiladas made from scratch, and churros, we realized that we didn’t have enough room for all that we wanted to try. So we took a break, and headed back to his place to relax. After a couple of hours of down-time, we still weren’t hungry. So then we went for a long walk through a local park, and finally– we were hungry! We headed back to Roosevelt Avenue, and El Sol Azteca. I ordered the Torta Enchilada; he ordered the Hamburger Deluxe. Although my torta had too much meat, it was still good, and was enough for two meals. And he said that his hamburger was delicious, although I can only attest to the fries! Having had our fill of Mexican food for the day– and perhaps for the month!- we each headed home, satisfied with our day’s findings.

It’s really nice that they accept cards but my torta was not as good as other places around here. also, the bread they served it on was wrong and the amount of mayo kinda made me gag.

It’s not easy finding a great mexican place in the East Coast, but in Jackson Heights and Roosevelt Ave, definitely makes life easier to find a great mexican place as this street is filled with mexican restaurants. I stop in at El Sol Azteca because I was craving some Chorizo Tacos and some Pancita. I was greeted by a warm hello by one of the waitresses and asked if i was going to be seated and I told her no. I was actually ordering for take out. She smiled and said«sure! Here is the menu». The menu was colorful with lots of pictures and lots of different dishes to choose from. Soups, Salads, Enchiladas, Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas etc. I know I wanted some tacos I went ahead and ordered a Chorizo Taco and a Tripe Taco. Ohhh! I forgot to add a nice order of Chicken Torta. She took my order and left the area. As I sat there at the table wondering if I forgot anything, it hit me! Pancita! I asked the lady is they make Menudo or Pancita and she said yes! Yes! So I went ahead and ordered the Pancita. The wait for the food took quite some time as it took about 15 – 20 minutes. When I got out, I went to my friend’s apt and with tons of excitement, I took out the tacos. The tacos were wrapped like mini burritos in a take out plastic container. The wrapping paper was soaked in oil from the Chorizo and Tripe and was a bit messy when eating them. First I try the Chorizo Taco and oh my god, was I in heaven. Each bite was soft and juicy! I then dipped the taco in to the green picante that was served with the food and took another healthy bite! Yum! Picante was a bit sweet and not too spicy. After finishing the Chorizo taco, I went for the Tripe taco. Now this one was not as good as the Chorizo. Seemed like they put the tripe on the pan a little too long. It was crunchy, tough, and a little burnt. I would expect the tripe to be a little more soft and chewy. Maybe it was just an off day. On to the Pancita soup! They serve it with Tortilla and a plate of Onions, Lime, and Cilantro. The Pancita was loaded with tripe! I mean loaded! The flavor did seem a little light(Watered down?), but still was a delicious soup. The chicken torta was a little different from the chicken torta I’ve tried at another Mexican restaurant. This place served the torta with deep fried chicken instead of grilled chicken, included tomatoes(did not have them with the ones I’ve tried), Jalapenos, and cheese. the Deep Fried chicken made the sandwich nice and crunchy while the tomatoes added the juices so the sandwich wasn’t a tough chewy sandwich. All in all, the experience I had at El Sol Azteca was a not bad. My quest for mexican cuisine continues!

This place serves some of the best Mexican I have found in New York. I am a California native and have had limited success finding great Mexican in New York. The beans here are terrific– always an important measure of any Mexican joint. Try the mole dishes or the quesadillas. Produce is fresh and the kitchen takes care in plating everything. I’m so glad I found this place.

After a rough and tumble night of excess, i found myself waking up 90th street and Elmhurst train station on the 7 train. I remember getting on the F train on Lexington ave and 63rd st, but after that i just can’t recall how i ended up on the 7, anyhow… it was 11:00am, it was cold, and i had been up for, oh quite sometime now, and i needed some chow. Funny how after drinking you get these cravings, i was in the mood for some Mexican food. I truly believe the gods were the ones to put me on the 7 train for once in queens it crosses a long stretch of Roosevelt ave, in other words, Mexican restaurant heaven. As i was strapped of cash, after heavy investing in liquor the night before, i entered restaurant, after restaurant but none of them accepted debit or credit cards. After what i thought was an oasis, i arrived on 83rd and Roosevelt ave, and there before me was a harsh neon lite, and a faded awning, that for a moment made me feel like i was in a Clint Eastwood movie back in the 1960’s… it was El Sol Azteca. The gods again inclined in my favor, on the door was the insignia i was looking for: WEACCEPTVISAANDMASTERCARD. At last, a meal, i entered the join with no expectations, as i was only there because of their generous credit/debit service; quickly that mind set changed as i was greeted politely first by a waitress, who rapidly caught on, that i was borderline to passing out from liquor/lack of food. I approached the counter guy, as for some reason i wanted take –out(effects of the Alcohol) he very brotherly suggested to take a seat, that he would help me recuperate my lost youthful power stripped away from the gods of wine. First, upon recommendation of the house i was given a revitalizing soup called«Sopa de Pozole» which was basically a spicy as hell soup with corn, tasty though, very tasty. I actually needed that to finally leave behind the ethereal state i was in, i was slowly recuperating my senses, but my throat was on pure fire! yes the soup was a lift me up. After that tantalizing experience, and now, able to fully enjoy the Mexican cuisine, i went ahead and ordered«Enchiladas rojas con queso». My lord, it was amazing, three enchiladas wrapped in this delicious cheese, topped with red picante yet wonderful sauce, with slice of avocado on top and sprinkled cheese… for a moment i felt as if the Aztec gods were finally calling me to join them… it was, utter fulfillment, it was great. I can’t believe how by sheer coincidence, or maybe cause i was ready to pass out, i found this place, which is a gem. As soon i can, i will stroll around Roosevelt ave once again to enjoy this small yet wonderful restaurant… I will arrive there in possession of all my five senses, and with the anxiety to enjoy the tastes of Mexico.

Some of the best Mexican food around, a small place where it helps to speak Spanish. Enjoy some Mexicana favorites including the Choriqueso
