Since Aldi opened in Jackson, our grocery bill has been drastically cut. Their prices are lower than anyone’s in town. Their«house» brands are more than likely made by the«name» brand companies since the packaging is very similar so you get the discount price for the same product, just in a different package. They have a good selection of products, canned, boxed, fresh meats and produce, frozen foods, but they are limited on certain items. To use a shopping cart, you will need a quarter to unlock it from the other buggies. When you return the cart and lock it back, you get your quarter back. You will also have to bag your own groceries. They have«free» boxes you can pick up at the store or you can purchase paper or plastic bags. We purchased 6 or 7 plastic bags with handles for 10-cents each and reuse them when we shop. Since the cashiers do not bag the groceries, they simply place them back into an empty cart making check out extremely fast. One cashier can check out three people in the same time it take one person to check out at other grocery stores. These two things help keep their costs down by not having to pay someone to retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot and not paying someone to bag groceries for you.

I love ALDI(short for Albrect Discount). When I was in college this grocery store was perfect for my budget. It was a godsend and I was able to more easily keep my head above water. My roommate and I would spend the same amount as at Walmart, but the amount of food we got lasted twice as long. This store recently opened in Jackson and it’s nice seeing this company expand. The brands they sell may not be familiar, but the quality is just as good.
