Best steaks and burgers in the area by far. We love the wood burning stove. The inside kind of reminds me of a Hobbit house in Lord of the Rings. Good selection of beers too. I once finished the triple decker cheese burger, it’s like something from the tv Man vs. Food show. Unfortunately, once the place is sold one of these days it will never meet code with new owners(I love the extension cords hanging all around the bar lol!) so enjoy this last bit of old N.J. while you can.

It’s a small out of the way place. This place is known for it’s burgers. WOW! Are they good! I got 17 ounces of goodness. When they come out they are charbroiled just the right way. Unbelievable. Check it out when ever you get a chance.

Great local dive especially for burgers. First stopped in after work in the 80’s … Then it was a place in great need of some cleaning and some paint — and now in 2016 it needs them even more(one star for that) but forget aesthetics you should only come here for a beer and a burger(four stars for the burgers)

The mold smell so overpowering. I will never go here again. Such a shame since it’s so close to home.

After living in Jackson for almost 15 years, I finally came here with my husband and son yesterday evening. It is definitely the local dive as many mention in their reviews, but it is worth a visit for their delicious breaded and grilled wings alone. The cheeseburger was quite tasty, but it would have tasted better on a better bun. They are quite tasteless and too big for the burger. My husband and son loved the fries. I would also recommend a good cleaning. That was a bit of a turn off for me, especially the dirty fan that was facing us as we ate. By far, the wings were our favorite part, and worth another visit. I cannot forget to mention that the owner and staff are friendly and attentive.

Went here randomly with my boyfriend and niece because we were craving burgers and were in the area. I looked on Unilocal and, based upon others reviews, decided to check it out. it’s definitely a hole in the wall bar– but those are my favorite. it has a lot of character. The staff were super friendly and the burgers definitely did NOT disappoint! Only catch is a side of fries is $ 5 and side of onion rings was $ 7… i guess my bad for assuming they came with fries(duh– it did NOT say deluxe!!!).we also had a cajun fried pickle for an app– wasn’t so much fried but it was delicious. This spot is definitely worth the trip.

Definitely the local hangout. My crowd was staying in the area on business and had to give a try after driving past. The staff were probably the friendliest people we met in the area and always made us feel welcome. As other reviewers mentioned, the beer on tap isn’t exactly imaginative, but they did have some craft beers — enough to keep this beer snob happy! Prices seemed a little high for a local dive, but they weren’t bad. The food was priced a little better. And speaking of the food, it was pretty darn good! The burgers were thick and juicy(you might want to consider splitting one), and the fries were great. We all loved their wings too! They aren’t fried like«normal» wings — they do these out on the grill. Yum! Not many places do grilled wings, but I’m always tickled when I find ‘em. They don’t come out very spicy, but the staff provided us with some Louisiana Hot sauce, which went with the grilled flavor perfectly. You might want to pass on the Fish ‘n Chips though. They weren’t too much more than a frozen fish stick, and they don’t have any malt vinegar to put on them. They do, however, have some of the best tartar sauce that I’ve ever had! Other than the fish, everything else we tried we were happy with, so you shouldn’t go to wrong ordering. The whole place is an old house that used to be on a carriage route. Some of the staff know the history, so feel free to ask. It was interesting to hear the story of the old place!

Great burgers and the best wings anywhere if you like grilled wings. Needs a good cleaning but the food is good.

The Local Dive Bar… That is the best way to describe Cassville. I am a history buff so I do appreciate the historical significance of the location and the attempts at keeping the old charm of the place. It is most certainly a local hangout but I felt welcome there. The beers were mostly just the big ones like Miller, Coors, Bud, Yuengling and Sam Adams. They did have a few more craft type beers. The prices were also on point for a local joint. Also the service was friendly and prompt. To steal from a previous review(because I couldn’t agree more: the wings are not buffalo wings, even in the loosest sense. They are fried chicken wings, some burnt, with a hint of spice. But they were meaty and juicy and I kind of liked them. The burger was okay. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day but I did not experience the amazing burger that so many others seem to have. Mine was cooked welldone when I asked for medium rare. However, the portion was HUGE and the fries were good. They have a lot of creative special burgers also. Point to note: probably not a place to bring a date but certainly a place to go to watch a game(so long as you are rooting for the local team).

Irish pubs. Brew pubs. Sports bars. Wine bars. City dive bars. And, of course, the Local dive bar. Hello, Cassville Tavern. I drive past here every day and have always wondered what it was like. As usual, curiosity got the best of me and I had to stop by to find out. However, I kept my expectations in check while walking in behind the group of men and women who exited from two RVs wearing cowboy hats and Wild West apparel. Oh boy. Once I got inside and sat down at the bar, I quickly noticed this is definitely a «local» hangout. Not a bad thing because the bartender and patrons were very friendly, most of them recognizing and acknowledging each other coming and going. I was also happy to see a decent selection of draft beers, which was more than I expected. After eventually looking at the menu I was a little surprised at the overall prices, but didn’t care because I was hungry for something substantial. While chatting with the lady next to me, I found out she works in the kitchen during the week. Good to know and I asked her for a recommendation, to which she responded, «A number two.» Huh? I didn’t know what that meant in ‘restaurant’ terms, especially since it wasn’t even on the menu, but found out it was a medium-grilled cheeseburger with bacon and mushrooms. Whew. I quickly concurred and didn’t regret it. The burger was huge and cooked perfectly(I hate overdone beef or bacon). I usually don’t eat many fries, but couldn’t stop grabbing at the crispy sides as I tried to finish everything… unsuccessfully. Although not my typical scene, Cassville Tavern definitely surprised me and may unintentionally make some of my commutes home a little longer in the future.

This place is a classic hole-in-the-wall local dive bar. If you are looking to get in on the history of Jackson, NJ, this place is a great start. That being said, the staff is pretty nice, but although I have heard people rave on and on about their food, nothing I have ever had here has been that great. You also don’t get a lot for what you pay for.

This place is quintessential Jackson. You just don’t find anything more back woods than this. The seating is pretty much indoor picnic benches and covered in sticky old plastic tablecloths. If you are over 5’5″ tall you will feel claustrophobic because of the low ceilings. Everything on the menu is deep fried aside from the burgers which are grilled. The burgers are truly the only item worth ordering. They have a decent choice of burgers. I enjoyed the stinky cheese burger. They are nicely done… everything else is awful. Decent as a quick stop for a burger and a beer but not anyplace you want anyone to see you walking into.

I wanted to see what the excitement was all about in reference to their burgers. Honestly I wasn’t impressed. It tasted sour to me. I’ve definitely had way better.

You may think the 2 stars is a little harsh, but I think it’s right on the money. This is a little, there are like 8 seats max at the bar, backwoods of Jackson bar that offers zero in the way of appearance, yech; atmosphere; location; or hospitality. The prices are totally out of whack with what you get for your money, and they charge extra for everything. If you get an order of wings for example they charge you extra for bleu cheese, etc. I’ve sat at the bar and recently sat at one of the booths and the service each time was brusque and unwelcoming. Our waitress at lunch time totally deserted us and we were unable to consume our beers at the desired rate due to her lack of attention. The food was bland and then some. I asked for a cheese burger medium and it came out like a dried hunk of meat, I don’t know maybe the«chef» forgot about it. I really would have sent it back but like I said it was lunchtime and me and my compadre, Jimbo, were on a tight schedule. I’d sit at the bar and have a few cold ones but I would never eat here again, and even that I’m not dying to do. See those pictures of the smiling employees? I’ve never seen that here. I swear those rave 4 and 5 star reviews have to come from friends and family. Another drawback is, look at the picture, you walk out the front door and it’s perhaps two tipsy steps to Rte 528 which you have to cross to get to the parking lot on the other side of the road. And what’s with the purple guard rail?

For a NJ native, it doesn’t get more local than Cassville Tavern. Occupying the corner of the main road that leads to Six Flags Great Adventure, I grew up passing this tavern my entire life and am almost embarrassed to admit I’d never eaten here! Almost. After working up an appetite with a little holiday shopping cardio, we decided to forgo our usual local eatery and finally try out Cassville Tavern. Warm and filled with locals, the scene inside was welcoming and our server proved to be the same, bringing menus and offering drinks immediately. There was little in the way of smaller or local craft brews – mostly just the big guys like Miller, Coors and Bud, though they did have Yuengling and Sam Adams. Be warned, the food menu here is ENORMOUS. Everything from fish and chips to burgers, steaks and sandwiches. To start, we ordered buffalo wings(12 for $ 9) and for entrees, we ordered a plate of potato skins and two burgers – since, as the menu states, the are known as far south as New Orleans. The break down: the wings are not buffalo wings, even in the loosest sense. They are fried chicken wings, some burnt, with a hint of spice. The burgers are very, very good – thick, juicy and giant with a grilled bun. However, they do not come with fries and are $ 10 each – kind of pricey for a tavern in suburban NJ. And those potato skins? They are the biggest offenders here. The skins themselves didn’t even look or taste like potato. They actually tasted like donuts and the cheese on top was not fresh cheddar, like on the burgers, but something of the processed, brightly-colored variety, reminiscent of canned spray cheese or cheese whiz. And the garnish? Bacon bits! Now, you have real cheddar and bacon in house for the sandwiches, why on earth are you using neon fake cheese and bacon bits for the potato skins? For the burgers and the friendly service, I’d come back to Cassville Tavern, but the rest of the menu is territory I’d avoid on future visits.

This place is great. Take a compass and draw a circle for 20 miles and you won’t find a better burger. Side dishes equally great especially wings and onion rings(real beer batter). Terrific selection of Tequilas. Steaks and sandwiches wonderful as well. Kind of small inside but there is a bar and a lot of character. Another plus for the big guys, the trestle tables in the booths MOVE. They are not fixed to the floor. If you like blue cheese and other stinky cheeses, the special burger is a must.

What a find, this little gem is at the corner of two main roads in the Township of Cassville in the center of New Jersey. It is definitely worth a visit for their fine Burgers and delightful staff with great customer service an a charm that is sure to have you coming back for return visits. They have a menu of burgers and appetizers and Beers and mixed drinks. The establishment just celebrated its 34 anniversary and the building has a history that dates back to the Revolutionary war.
