Love their burger but the location was definitely a bit scary to me. Wouldn’t come here alone at night by myself.
I had tried their sweet potato fries and their house classic burger (large). Although the service was slow but I love their food, so I kinda can skip that. However, the smell and cleanness of the restaurant still need improvement.

This place is under horrible management, and the employees are incompetent.

I know a lot of people like Cool Al’s and I hate to give it a not so great review but… it was not so great. I ordered a large classic burger to split with my son. I had no idea it would be so spicy! The heavy seasoning was too much for my son and for myself. I couldn’t taste the burger just the spicy seasoning. I went out of my way to get it and was disappointed. The price wasn’t bad but I wish I would have gone somewhere else.
The building is run down and could use some cleaning. The staff seemed irritated and I could hear them arguing in the back. The floors were as sticky as a movie theater floor. The menus were dirty and the counter looked like it had not been cleaned in awhile. I won’t be back.

No questions asked– This is my FAVORITE burger in Jackson. Maybe of all time? Maybe in the whole world? It’s quite possible. Their burgers are sooooo good.
Their burgers come in a couple of different sizes but even the smallest one leaves me feeling full for the rest of the day and well into the night. I couldn’t tell you what seasonings they use when cooking these patties but it obviously involves some sort of magic because the burgers are just phenomenal. If you order any sort of toppings, they’ll cook them INTO the burger which is soooo smart and even more delicious then you can imagine.
VEGETARIANS: Cool Al’s has for sure one of the best veggie burgers in town! So you don’t have to miss out!
Considering how excellent (read: amazing) this place is, it’s super inexpensive. You get a lot for your buck, for sure. I’ll tell you– the service is definitely slow. They take their time cooking these burgers to make sure everything is perfect. If you’re in a rush, call ahead to make sure they’ll have it ready for you. If you don’t mind waiting, then go ahead and order some fries (I looove their sweet potato fries) to hold you over while you wait for your burger.
The atmosphere is nothing incredibly special. It’s an old school Jxn joint in a super unassuming spot. You could roll up in sweats and no one would blink. You don’t come here for the atmosphere or the service. You come here for a burger that will rock your world. I guarantee it!

The ambiance is sorely lacking and it took 45 minutes for my burger and chips to be served. Aside from that the burger was awesome and so were the chips. I just wish the chip portion would have been larger.

Delicious! Don’t let the building fool you; the food is great! We had the Jamaican burger and the West African burger, and the kids had classic burgers. The Jamaican had quite a kick to it, the West African more subtle… both very very good. Kids were happy with theirs too. Sweet potato fries, fried mushrooms, and fried pickles found their way to the table as well. (The first and last of fried foods for me for a great while)
Will definitely visit again if we come back through Jackson!

The burgers are some of the best in Jackson but the service is so bad it negates everything. I have been yelled at for for asking how much longer for an order to be ready at 11 am on a Saturday morning in an empty restaurant. If you know someone who will go in there and pick up the food for you then do so!

A relative of mine wanted to go to Cool Al’s because it had been years since our last visit. To be honest nothing has changed. Rude service, a dirty dining room and rude signs posted on the cash register (example of signs: please read your receipt and make sure it says turkey burger, we will not remake). Before giving Cool Al’s a visit I attempted to order our large turkey burgers and French fries via telephone. The first time the female answered the phone she said «you gotta wait I’m taking a order.» So when I made my order she said «we don’t do larger burger orders over the phone, you gotta come inside.» So I ordered once we arrived and it took 40 minutes to get our food and after spending $ 50 I had to ask for ketchup and the guy gave me 6 little packets. I can guarantee that I will never return and neither will any of my relatives. The worst part is that when I tell this story everyone says «I thought you knew that place was a loss cause.»

Best burger in Jackson without a doubt.
I caution you though, if you get anything larger than the crumbsnatcher size, you will be terribly unproductive for the next several hours as your body decides to shut down and just enjoy the meat in your belly.
Back in the day, this place served one burger, in one size. It was the superburger, and it was huge. It was an excellent burger then, and the magic was the seasonings in the meat and the secret sauce they used. Now, this location has a much wider variety of burgers, and you cannot go wrong with any of them. They all feature a perfectly cooked patty with seasoning and sometimes fixings cooked right in the patty! This is an excellent idea and really sets them apart. I can’t tell you what burger is going to catch your eye, but I can promise you that you will love it!
Don’t eat meat? No problem — they are also known for having the best veggie burgers in town! They have stepped their game up in this arena in the past few years, and have their own excellent blends.
They are cheap.
They are a little bit slow. You may want to call in your order if you don’t have 45 minutes to kill.
The selection of fries is also good, true to their diverse menu, you can have them with a variety of seasonings.
MUST HAVE DISHES IN JACKSON — Get the classic burger. Nothing fancy, just great meat, great seasonings and great sauce. Without a doubt, they do the best burgers you can have in Jackson. I can say just grab any of them because they are all delicious and creative, but the idea here is to recommend a single dish.

Wow, don’t be fooled by looks. The food here is really great. I’m a vegetarian and they got a good amount of options for the non-​meat eaters and boy is it good. Taste is fresh, the staff were pleasant. I had the chipotle burger and Cajun fries. They put some cheese on it as well as per my request. Hope to be back.

The white woman that owns this place is rude and hires nothing but uneducated black men who are even more rude! Customer service sucks! Veggie burgers are good! But I can find better food with better customer service

Seriously. Not being over-​dramatic here. I will say that I have lived all over the place and love to try local restaurants where ever and whenever I travel. Let me just say that I did not expect to find probably the best veggie burger I’ve had in Jackson, MS. Don’t let the dive-​y ambiance deter you from coming here. It’s worth it. I also have it on good authority that the meat burgers are pretty damn awesome as well.

Cool Al’s does not disappoint; the burgers are very good but don’t be fooled by the «small» label. Its actually 8 ounces which is more like a regular. The restaurant had a surprisingly wide array of choices from a double meat bacon burger to a veggie burger. There is something for everyone. Even the side menu presents many options to choose from. The only let down was the fries, while supposedly seasoned, were very plain and the restaurant itself let a lot to be desired.

Holy Wow. I have been coming here for years but I just had a new burger of theirs: Ginger garlic jalapeño. I added bacon and mushrooms to make my belly super happy. Omfg. Can’t tell you. You have to try it. Favorite burger joint in the south. Never had something there I didn’t like. I mean like wow.

Huge Handmade Burgers. They have beef — turkey — vegetable options. Very Very casual environment.
Delicious food but remember you are in the Deep South & all good things take a lil time. So don’t expect fast food or fast service. Enjoy your time with friends.

Best bugers! Sampler is not sliders theg are three 5oz. burgers! A must stop, easy access from 55 interstate. We stopped at 7pm and food came quick.

Stopped in after reading Unilocal and looking at the menu online. My rep from Mississippi had not heard of it and he likes spicy food, so the Habanero burger sounded awesome. We came by right after noon on Tuesday and placed our order. The place is in a strip mall next to a liquor store and a recording studio. He had the Habanero burger and i went with spicy chipoltle. Both were the large variety and were huge. I had the french fries with season salt (fantastic) and he had the sweet potato chips (awesome). We waited a bit over the 20 minutes, closer to 30 total but there were locals that called in orders ahead of us and picked up to go. The burgers didnt disappoint and i would return again and again. More in line with a dive burger joint but its all about the food and they get it right.

What a great burger!!!, seasoned in a spectacular way, Not overcooked, dressed well with just the right condiments…
My fellow Unilocalers who complain about the wait time for food are right about the time. But, there is an easy to read sign saying «This is NOT fast food» and informing one to expect to wait at least 20 minutes for your food to be ready…
My burger came out in right at 30 minutes… worth the wait.

Hands down the best burgers and fries around.
That being said, the wait is extremely long at times, even if you call your order in they don’t make it until you actually get there so why bother. The concrete floor has always been greasy and the kitchen has a certain ick factor to it. BUT if I was cooking burgers and fries for all the years they have been doing it I’m sure my place would be the exact same.

The food was good, but the service is terrible. My friend ordered a veggie burger and it somehow took longer to make than the rest of the food. Unfortunately, the extensive veggie burger menu was the main reason we came.
Another friend ordered onion rings, and we didn’t find out that they were out of those until after the food came out.
I don’t think we’ll be eating here again.
