Once a year we travel to south Jackson to celebrate Christmas at Crechale’s. The restaurant is festive, the waitstaff is the best and you are greeted with a warm welcome from the owner. We absolutely love the experience of the restaurant but it is not for everyone. The food is average but pricey, the portions are huge. Order the onion rings, pour Comeback sauce on everything! Fried catfish is very good! It is an authentic vintage family owned restaurant with 1960’s décor and a jukebox in the corner. You’re guaranteed to sing«Happy Birthday» with each visit. This restaurant is just FUN! Dinner for 2 is going to run you $ 80 but you’re going to enjoy yourself!

Crechale’s has been in business in Jackson over 50 years. Our waitress had worked there since 1967!!! The atmosphere is great, with a very friendly staff and Mr. Crechale goes out of his way to visit with his guests and make them feel right at home. As far as the menu goes, I recommend the seafood options(the fried shrimp are as good as it gets) versus the steaks. The onion rings appetizer were excellent as well.

Overpriced and food was disappointing. Fried flounder had a slight fishy taste. Steak was thin(not thick like the ones in display case), chewy and cooked on a flat top, not charbroiled. There’s no seasoning on the meat. Drink glasses so small my straw kept falling out. Toasted bread already out on all the tables(not sure how long it had been sitting out) was cold and stale. Fried soft shell crabs were doughy, undercooked in the center, again, no seasoning, just batter. $ 210.00 for 5 adult dinners and 2 children’s plates. No appetizers, no alcohol, no desserts, no extras. The only good thing was the service.

Crechale’s hits the mark. It may be one of the most classic of steak-houses in Jackson. The staff are wonderful people and make you feel at home. This is a local haunt with the splendor and decadence reaching far back into the last century. Crechale’s will likely reach into the next one as well. I can only speak to the Ribeye and fries. When I said rare, they knew what I meant. They know how to cook a steak my friends. You absolutely should not look for better quality. Crechale’s seems best suited for parties of more than three. They have an interactive staff and provide an atmosphere of fun and delight. Wine flows freely here and is served with dignity. The rating schemes are deceptive on Unilocal.They are a 4 star in taste and quality but their price per portion ratio(forced to be factored in on this scale) puts it right at three stars. Overall, excellent job Crechale’s.

Visited here on strength of Unilocal reviews. We were in the mood for some good seafood, but did not find it here. Started with onion rings as an appetizer, very good. The onion rings had our mouths watering for the seafood to come. We ordered flounder and the seafood platter. We are from the Texas gulf coast and love our seafood. This did not even come close. EVERYTHING on the seafood platter was fishy tasting, not fresh. THe flounder, while fresh, was the most blandly tasting piece of fish I have ever encountered, not even a hint salt or pepper. We were going to order their signature snapper dish but they were out of crab meat. The bill for this catastrophe was over $ 100. Stay away or you will regret it.

A very warm welcome from the owner and staff as we walked in… Very cozy place not a lot of tables… we sat down right away waitress asked if we wanted onion rings which we got and which I highly recommend, they are thin cut… I got the fried shrimp which were great not too big not too small… My wife got a fillet and my father-in-law got a king cut ribeye, both are broiled and it gave the meat a very clean taste, it did not have a lot of seasoning type flavor so I do not recommend any kind of steaks at this place… It looks like everybody else ordered seafood and I regretted I did not convince everyone to do so… Also my kids got fried chicken strips and french fries these people know how to fry food so I highly recommend any kind of fried seafood at this place… We will go back and we will get seafood!!!

Great old school restaurant. This place is about fresh seafood and good service. If you want a trendy restaurant with frozen fish buried in a mediocre sauce, then this isn’t for you. The seafood is fresh, so there is no need to hide it behind rich sauce. This is one of only a few places in Jackson that we regularly visit. Highly recommend.

Other 5 star review are right on point. Can’t really add much but to say: they do take out orders. I guess it is just so fun to go that in 30 years I just never thought about it, but recent necessities have us at home so I called in and we got the seafood plater with soft-shell crab and stuffed shrimp and onion rings. Everything transported well and tasted great. Only down side was not visiting with Bob, the birthdays and the inability to say«Can we get some more rolls?»

This place is the quintessential restaurant of Jackson. Even my father used to come here in the 50’s when I was only a twinkle in his eye. My Dad used to raver about the broiled flounder which is still deboned at the table by hand, one of the many charms of this timeless establishment. I highly recommend the broiled flounder, but almost always get the soft shelled crab(always fried; the broiled just isn’t as good). The snapper Lena is a wonderful third ok my all time list. Many rave for the steals here as well, and I’m sure they are excellent, but I can’t pass on the incredibly good seafood. Nothing compares to broiled and/or fried seafood finished in butter with a touch of sherry. Incredibly delicious. The wine list is a bit restricted, but the King Estate Pinot Gris is a fine accompaniment to the seafood dishes and is at a price comparable to the liquor store, so I can’t complain about that either! Bob Crechale has kept a timeless classic in Jackson for over 55 years and I highly recommend it if you are ever to visit the Capitol city; it’s a definite ‘must dine’ in an, otherwise, sea of culinary mediocrity.

THISIS A 2012REVIEW: the food is horrible, Capt. D’s is 2 doors down and would have been a better choice! The décor is OLD&DRAB! The food is BLAND! Tonight I took 1 bite of my entrée(1 pc of fried red snapper for $ 19.95) and that was 1 bite too many! Alerted the waitress of our disappointment and she sent this big lady over and she wanted to know what was wrong… let her know we didn’t like and she proceeded to charge 14 $ for the salad… which I didn’t really mind because that was impossible to mess up! but it wasn’t a 14 $ salad… Can’t end w/out saying something good, so here goes: THEBREADWASWONDERFUL!

Set the wayback dial to 1955, disable irony, sprinkle in vintage tunes on the jukebox and slather with old-school Southern cookin’ and hospitality and you get Crechale’s. It doesn’t get more real than this!

A warm welcome from people you swear might be family, onion rings to dream about, Comeback dressing you find yourself putting on everything you order and some of the best seafood north of the Coast. As you might guess, I recommend visiting your long lost family at Crechale’s.

I have been eating here for 30 years. Honestly, nothing has changed. That is a good thing. This is no frills, meat and potatoes dining. Crechale’s is a seafood place to me. I have never had a steak, but they look good. Iceberg lettuce mix and«Classic Comeback Sauce» dressing. The stuffed shrimp are fried seafood sickness. Fried Snapper. Anything fried. My Grandmother always ate the broiled flounder, deboned tableside. This is not takeout food. Do yourslef a favor. Enjoy the experience.

Agree with others that the inside reminds me of the 40’s in a very good way, classic 40’s lighting and table arrangement, etc. The owner/host was very accomodating and very friendly when we arrived at 8:30. The one poster that talked about a «high dollar» dive wasn’t kidding; I’m not opposed to the high dollar part as long as the quality is superb, need a bit of quantity at a dive as well but wouldn’t hold it against a superb meal, but this was very high dollar with(for the most part) very average. Total for 2 with tip was $ 82, here’s the menu, 2 cokes, onion rings, ribeye, greek salad, 2 baked potatoes, lemon pie and 2 coffees. Dinner salad was the size of a saucer, $ 14 greek salad was full of capers and fishy smelling crab, no greek dressing(for the greek salad, very confusing) just the house(1000 island) and for $ 14 the plate was the size of a break plate, maybe smaller but certainly not the size of a dinner plate, ribeye was very good, about 12 oz, done perfectly, baked potatos were smallish, size of a small fist. Coffee was good and fresh, lemon pie was not really pie, thought I was in for an awesome merangue but instead was treated to a bad pastry shell, not a pie crust, it was a hard shell, with lemon pudding, that was runny and not set. Perhaps the greek salad was our fault but it was featured prominantly. The place is very cool, if I lived in Jackson I’m sure we would find a good entrée to be the«go to» but this trip was unimpressive especially for the price. If you have many bites at the apple maybe you can find what you really like but I couldn’t recommend if you’re passing through.

I love Crechales! It’s hard to know where to start — from Bob(the effervescent owner who says, «good to see you!» the minute you walk in the door), to the classic jukebox(playing mostly country hits from the 50’s), from singing«happy birthday» multiple times during your meal with everyone else in the place -«C’mon Everybody, Hail, Hail the Gang’s all Here!» to the red snapper, comeback dressing and onion rings(my favorites) and the«hunk of butter» on your baked potato I could go on and on… But trust me — It’s worth the sometimes long wait for a table and it’s worth a drive from anywhere. My relatives from Seattle, Oregon, San Antonio, San Francisco, and Atlanta beg to eat here when they’re in town. This place is like no other and you will love it too!

What an awesome place! It’s actually somewhat of an anomaly; a ‘hole-in-the-wall’ place with a ‘high-dollar’ menu! The seafood is fantastic, the steaks are superb, and the atmosphere is like a small-town café, complete with a juke box in the corner. Linen tablecloths cover the table while a ‘Flo-like’ waitress takes your order. And the homemade pie is to die for! If you don’t mind paying handsomely for an absolutely superb meal, complete with a wine selection, while in a ‘diner’ atmosphere with casually dressed locals, this is the place for you! I personally love it!

I do not live in Jackson, but every time I drive through on I-20(maybe twice a year) I make it a point to stop at Crechale’s. They specialize in seafood and steaks. I often get a fried seafood assortment plate. There’s plenty of seafood and the taste is superior. I make sure that I have plenty of time to enjoy the food without having to hurry. Personally, I just like the seafood without any sauce(tartar or red sauce). Stuffed flounder — superior. I’m so full from seafood that I don’t have room for desert. The place is always full of locals.
