Most amazing place ever to get a hot dog. The owner is a very friendly gentleman and has great service. It’s nice to come into a place that feels very small town and you feel at home. Like your grandpa had you over for lunch. Have a good sense of humor and don’t be easily offended and I guarantee you will leave satisfied. We always make time to stop here when in town. Come in, sit down, and enjoy the experience and the food.

Awesome place to eat if you want to dine with the locals! Great ambiance and even better service from Karlos… aka Fat Freddy. Been here twice and now will become an every visit to Jackson stop!

The old guy(Freddy) was nice, had has definitely been there for ages. He had a good menu of items to choose from, my wife went with a simple hot dog, i went for the spiciest thing he had and he didn’t disappoint. We got a soda along with a hot dog and some fries that were fried in a machine. Yes in a machine, I have never seen anything like it before; you put the frozen fries through the machine, set the time and it spits them out along the side. The fries were actually pretty good. The hot dog was better, not the best but definitely good; if it weren’t for the high price of eating out in that area of Jackson, CA I would eat there again. Definitely a very old dive that you gotta try at least once. Bring cash, no checks or credit cards.

I love Fat Freddy’s…a group of us come up from Sacramento at lest once a month and have a Casper dog and an old time milk shake… and listen to his corny jokes. A great place and good chili too… When in Jackson say hello to Freddy from the BEAVER

Karlos is the man! My friend and I loved this place. We were on our way to Kirkwood and stopped in Jackson(isn’t much there for food), so we stumbled upon Freddy’s! Ask Karlos for the spicy pickles! They’re great! And say hi to Big Carl too ;)

Went here because my son eats 3 things meal wise and this place had hot dogs and was on our way to some caverns. The downtown portion of Jackson is amazing and like you time warped back to the old west and walking into Fat Freddy’s was no exception. Was like walking into a small saloon or tiny diner. Everything was antiquey wood and very earthy. Tons of random things on the walls. The owner is also the server and cook. It’s a one man operation, so if you want to sit with your am and eat together, that won’t happen here. You get the food as it;s ready, one person at a time. Luckily for me he had a veggie burger, even though it wasn’t on the menu. The fries were not good. Frozen looking and tasting with no flavor. We went here for the hot dog and anything else was secondary. This is basically a place for locals who want to chat with Freddy while they get a bite. This is not a place to come and have a full meal and sit together in a group. The only real place to sit for more than two humans is the counter. I would only come back for a hot dog for my son.

The experience we had at Fat Freddys is that they take pride in what they do. And they also make an AWESOME hot dog. This is definitely a place to visit if you are in the area.

If it’s a good hot dog you want in Amador County, this is your best, and almost your only bet. Good service by a friendly, reliable owner in a cute, old timey setting helps ease the pain of the lack of parking which weakens the idea of this place as a destination. But if you are on Main Street and want a hot dog, you can’t beat it.

My folks ate at Fat Freddy’s during my daughter’s softball tournament. The owner was a very pleasant man who served my folks while telling them about the history of Jackson. Both parents said their luch was plentiful and tasty, and their dog Gus even got some special attention, though Mom had to nix the offer from the owner for a hotdog treat for pup(much to Gus’s dismay). An overall good experience that had my parents talking long after their meal!

So I was a little hesitant when my bf said he was taking me to a hot dog joint. And then I felt even more nervous when we pulled up. But hey, I love hot dogs, a great American favorite, and I wasn’t going to back down. We sat at the counter and looked over the menu. I absolutely love how they have a list of rules on how to eat a hot dog. Although it says not to use ketchup and I’m obsessed with it. I wasn’t sure if they even carried any. lol Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised to bit into this tasty treat. This is definitely a place that has been around for awhile and is family owned. They really look like they take pride in this place and I was so happy to be contributing to it.

Nice old time diner feel in the historic section of Jackson. Smokehouse sausage, deep fried onion chips, and a chocolate malt. Not an outstanding meal(even for a hot dog), but certainly worth the stop. The device hat was used to deep fry the fries and onion chips was pretty cool. The staff was very friendly and really hustling to keep up with everyone that came in.

This is the real deal — an authentic diner experience with great food(given the circumstance), and all the other trappings. Owner Carlos clearly takes pride in his work and delivers with extra bonhomie, single-handedly manning the counter and taking as much time is needed for the food to come out right. Among our party, we had fish ‘n’ chips, a cheeseburger, and a loaded smoked sausage. All were quite tasty — crisp fries, fresh veggies, juicy burger — everything you’d expect(but not usually get). The shakes/malts/creamsicles have 4 scoops of ice cream and milk — nothing else(and so filling they’re hard to finish — by an ice cream lover). The best! This was a great find while wandering among antique stores on a lazy day in Jackson.
