I recently moved to Jackson and was really excited to try this place. I thought it was so so at most. Cupcakes tasted like box cake and the frosting was too sweet. It’s not a gourmet bakery but I was hoping for a bit more.

I’ve never been real big in cupcakes(thought they were overrated) until my friends introduced me to this place. I was so amazed at how great they were! I’ve actually made 2 hour round trips just to get some and it was worth it. The workers there are really friendly, too!

You can bake anything here if you want to. The cupcakes are quite tasty! I stop by from time to time when I have something to celebrate, because I don’t want to buy an entire cake. I have never had a cupcake here I didn’t like.

Hali Hannigan’s is an awesome Cupcakery in The Columns that is family owned and created by an Australian novel author and his wife. The namesake is after their 3 daughters Hali, Hannah, and Morgan combined together — Hali Hann(ah)i(Mor)gan’s. Really catchy if you ask me. My friend had told me about it and I had to come check the place out when I was visiting my family in Jackson for Mother’s Day weekend. When you first walk you notice the hot pink and black on the walls. It really is eye catching. They had a few tables on each side of the walk-in, then the register with the cupcakes proudly displayed in the glass cases. I wanted something really fruity and sweet so I opted to try the Strawberry Sunset for my treat, and I took my mom home a Patti Cake. The Strawberry Sunset consisted of strawberry cake, strawberry filling, and cream cheese icing garnished with fresh strawberry slices. The cupcakes are very large. They’re not your standard cupcake size that you would make at home. I was really shocked when I found out the price was only $ 3! With all the cupcake places I’ve been to in St. Louis where I live presently, you are looking at paying up to $ 6 for the same size and of lesser quality than what you would get here. Hali’s was fresh, tasty, and delicately created to meet topnotch quality with low pricing. The Patti Cake was a huge hit with mama. It was made with vanilla cake, milk chocolate and white chocolate icing drizzled with chocolate chips on top. She loved it. Now let me tell you, this was only Friday and I was only getting this party started. Hali, one of the owner’s daughters told me that they can allow kids to design their own cupcakes. I thought this was so cool! I decided to bring my cousin and my step niece here the next day so we could check this out. Saturday — we come in and take a seat. Not too long after Hali comes out and asks the girls and myself what kind of cakes would we like to use as our base before designing our cupcake creations. I opted for the strawberry cake and vanilla cake whereas the girls decided on the red velvet and chocolate cake. She brought us out our cake bases, icing, and sprinkles. It was such a neat experience! The girls had a lot better luck at designing their cupcakes with much more professionalism than myself. Keep in mind these girls are 14 and 8 years old. Their creations looked like they should be on display in the case with the rest of Hali Hannigan’s cupcakes because they looked so good! My icing job turned out to go lopsided. It didn’t distract from the wonderful taste of them though. Mmmmm I loved them! With all the work we did plus some additional cupcakes I bought for my family, I ended up paying $ 25 for everything. Not a bad price for everything we got if you ask me. Quick not — The ones we created did not have fillings in them, but most if not all the ones that Hali Hannigan’s makes has filling in them. They also have birthday specials where people can pay a flat rate and have kids design cupcakes. Kind of a cool idea if you ask my opinion. Before leaving town, I did manage to bring some back for my boyfriend and gave some to my family. This time I got an assortment box. My mom complained saying I was trying to make her fat. haha In all reality it was her Mother’s Day gift. She indulged on the Wedding Cake cupcake before I took off. It had white cake and vanilla icing. She loved it just as much as she enjoyed her Patti Cupcake she had previously. All in all, this place is pretty freaking awesome as I said before. They’re local, cheap in pricing that doesn’t compromise with the quality, and you get a lot for what you pay for. One last note — they do sell specialty cakes for all occasions. After looking at the photos they have on their Facebook, I think they probably do more birthday cakes than anything. They look ohhh sooo goooood. Ideal for kids or a date night… or even both! Bring your kids and make a date of it. I am glad to see such a charming place in north Jackson right in the mecca of everything.
