Romans Italian &BBQ Smokehouse. This review is for smokehouse BBQ only. I pass this place everyday, it was originally a pizza restaurant, empty everyday. Tough spot in a dead plaza with another pizza place across the street and an excellent Italian restaurant next door. Then we see it changed to also include BBQ. We thought to give it a shot. We ordered appetizers and BBQ dinners. Apps were all frozen out of a box, only dipping sauce is pizza sauce. We like fried mushrooms with a horseradish sauce. So that was average and disappointing. I ordered pulled chicken not sure what I actually got. Looked and had feel of baby food and an over sweet sauce mixed in. Plus there was water coming off the edge of the meat pile. This tells me not fresh, this was an order that was made, portioned out, frozen, and microwaved right on the plate which was evident by the Luke warm outside and hot spot in the center. Corn — in Jersey at the end of the summer and your serving me a frozen 3 inch corn really. Real fresh corn is 5 for a dollar at every veg stand. Mash potatoes were also not fresh very dried out need some milk or cream. Baby backs were average too much sauce for me but wife thought ok with the comment, «but not as good as Applebees». Altogether a throw away of $ 50. We should have gone to Solo Bela right next door. Waitress was good she has to be she’s the only one there. I will never go back and now know why they are empty on Friday night when all places around them are full.

Roman’s is very recently under new management — run by a friendly gentleman from Ischia, Italy and his family, accompanied by a courteous and accommodating staff. They offer a wide range of Italian dishes that always exceed your expectations with pleasant surprises in flavor. I highly recommend the«Veal Giovanni» — with prosciutto, shiitake mushrooms, and shallots, in a Sherry wine cream sauce. You will not be disappointed!
